Am I the only person not really that concerned where the fingerprint sensor is?
The way the media and some people are up in arms over it, you'd think they are asking us to stick our index finger in our rectum to gain access to our phone.
Jeez.

I don't think the media is up in arms about it... I don't think I've read one review from the media that the FPS is a deal breaker and to not buy the phone because of it.

But if you're going to review the phone or discuss the phone or give your opinion of the phone... I think anyone that is going to be honest and seriously considering a phone and compares features to other phones, is going to admit... the FPS is in a lousy location.

Ergonomically it doesnt work as well for all users as placing it lower and in the center like virtually every other manufacturer that puts the FPS in the back. Samsung basically admitted it's a f-up because they couldnt get the under glass sensor done and IMO took the easy way out instead of redesigning it with sensor in the middle I guess risking battery placement.

People that say they don't need it and use retina only... I'm not sold on that. I don't care to stick my phone up to my face all the time to unlock and it doesnt beat the speed of opening the FPS where while you are taking it out of pocket, you've already put your finger on the sensor and it's unlocked by the time the screen is in eye view day or night.

"The S8 FPS is in the best location ever and stupid no other manufacturer ever realized it"... no one has ever said.

Next year if the rumor is true that they will also use rear FPS in S9... I hope to the heavens they had and took the time to put it in a better place. Also, to mention on the flip side, if it's true the iPhone 8 wont have FPS at all and go with facial recognition, i'm not sold on that idea either until I see it and try it. Rumor of FPS on power button is better than where the S8 sensor is now IMO.

Best position IMO

That is one of the few things I am not at all concerned with.

Same here. It's in several different phone manufacturers, so it can't be all bad.

I have my phone in a stand with raised edges at work, and I have to lift my phone out to use the front bottom fps. Having it in the back top will be nice.

I always put my phone in my purse pocket top side up.

But even if you put it bottom side up, you side slide your hand down a bit to unlock it. So I see no concern.

You're right regardless of front or rear FPS you'll get in the habit of knowing and reaching for the button as you take it out of pocket (I have no purse experience)... but having the FPS in front/bottom of phone or back/middle of phone (which I had on my G2 and G3) I also end up with the phone resting on my palm at perfect position as i grab for phone and pull it out of pocket and don't need to readjust once I finish the movement and at eye level.

I can see it possibly doable on the S8. But with my time playing with the S8+ the reach on the FPS requires me to shimmy the phone in my palm. The Note 8 being 3mm taller, I hope the FPS will also not be moved up any higher than where the S8+ is.

This all started with the expectation that the Note 8 will have FFS embedded on the front screen.
I really don't care myself where the FFS is located. With the S8+, by the second - third day of use, it's an automatic reflex.
When I pull it out of the front pocket my finger is already touching the FFS. If the phone is on but on lock screen in front of me, the facial recognition thing unlocks it for me.

Yeah, not a big deal for me either. Pretty sure you can program more than one finger on those now, right? Means whatever hand i need to hold onto it with should be able to hit the button before my eyes land on it

I have an LG v20 now with a rear fingerprint sensor. It works just fine and had no issues getting used to it. Every now and then,I need it on the front. But not often.

I was finding it funny too that the fps was getting so much negative attention, personally I don't use it even though it works fine on my Note 4 and would imagine it will work 10 times better in the Note 8, in a global market place it would be impossible to make it perfect for every single customer anyway.

It's not about if it's going to work or not. It's been out for years. They're talking more about the placement of the FPS, like the S8/S8+, located at the back next to the camera, which most people find it awkward.
Also there was the expectation the FPS would be embedded on the glass.screen itself.

I have a Huawei Mate 9 and a Galaxy S8+. The Mate 9's FPS is located on the perfect spot, below the camera and is super fast and accurate. After experiencing the Mate 9's FPS, I couldn't get used to the S8+'s. I don't really use the Galaxy anymore and when I do, I unlock with my pattern. The Note 8 will be taller than the S8+ and harder to reach. For this reason alone, and maybe the side edges, I'm skipping the Note 8 this year and probably giving the V30 a shot.

It's a problem. Maybe not a deal breaker, but it's in a lousy location. It's too far to reach with one hand and over and over the camera lens will get touched/smeared when the user misses.

You'd think with the Note 8 they could have moved it (even if it was too late for the S8. For a function the user utilizes dozens of times per day, one should not have to "put up with" the location of the FPS in a high end device like this, for a price like this.

Is is a deal breaker? No. It is a problem. Definitely. It depends on the user just how much ..

Honestly doesn't bother me, I've used the heart rate scanners since the Note 4 and they are next to the camera.

Can always wait for next years note ;)

Some markets never got the Note 5, and the 7 was recalled. Some have already used the Note 4 for nearly 3 years and probably don't want to wait longer lol.

But it's one of those deal with it or buy another phone, no phone is perfect.

I hear you, i feel the same way about the size of the device

I just didn't even realize this was something the whole world would seem to whine about. LoL

The funny parts about this?:

1) There seems to be a longer of tears from people who aren't even going to get the phone.
2) A lot of people who haven't had phones with FPS on the back before are already mad before they try it out.
3) I truly didn't know the FPS in front meant that much to so many. I legit didn't.

I'm at my work desk getting quite the snicker. LoL

I could care less I don't even use mine on my S8.

This. About the only thing I use the FPS for on occasions is when I'm using my bank account app to login. Aside from that its either iris scanner or face recognition to unlock the phone. So its placement does not bother me at all.
