For those that got the OTA GB update - get your new phone

Called VZW today, to not let them know that my DI is still not working up to par (compared to before the GB update) AND to complain that I never received the the call back that I was promised after my last call. After discussion with Tier 2 tech, I decided that I really didn't want to go down the road of replacement phones (and potentially having to deal with the same issues on the refurb DI's they were going to send) so instead I am getting early upgrades on both of my accounts (moving them both up by over 6 months). Now we just have to decide what we are going to get.

If you don't like the existing selection, might as well wait for the Prime or Vigor or the iPhone 4S, if your wife doesn't care about the OS.

I will call VZW up again when a good phone finally drops.

I have had most of the issues mentioned here, but had not received the update yet. I called Verizon and they had me do a factory reset and still no fix, after about 20 mins of "trouble shooting" the rep finally mentioned that he could send a replacement DInc with 2.3 installed, so I asked what would be done if I still have those issues and more, he stated he could ask a manager when that happens and "maybe" I could get an upgrade at no cost. My phone is only five months old, but we shouldn't be put through this because of an error HTC or Verizon made, I will be irate if I am forced to buy a different phone because of this! Every incredible user should receive an incredible 2 at no cost because of this crap, not just on a case to case basis. Anyway I will let you all know if the replacement works better or not.

I got the 2.3 OTA and the phone had most of the common problems that have been posted on here. I got a replacement Dinc last week that was also suppose to have 2.3 installed on it. It came with 2.2. So when you get your phone, check the software, I'll bet you will have 2.2. The one big issue Im having with the replacement is that a few times a day it doesnt ring for an incoming call. A friend of mine called this morning while I was checking the weather and the phone showed nothing at all, and then the voicemail icon showed up. I checked and sure enough, he called and left a message. It makes me wonder how many calls a day I miss. Good luck with your replacement!

Are you sure that your original DInc never missed a call as you've described? I'd be surprised if it never happened before.

It happens to me every now and then with my original, new DInc - not a refurb. I figure it's probably the Verizon network coverage in my area (kind of weak) or some other internal VZW problem.

So, after being told on the phone they would send me an Incredible 2 as an upgrade for my crappy updated Inc 1, I got sent an Inc 1 in the mail today. And this baby is bare bones. It doesn't even have a battery or cover.

Has anyone who got a refurb Inc 1 actually had it last for a long period of time with no more low memory errors? I did a factory reset on my first Inc 1 and it lasted about 10 days before the error returned. Maybe they figured something out, but I'm thinking this is a software issue and will just return on this stupid refurb they sent me.

I'm considering calling VZW support and asking why they sent me the original phone and explaining to them that a software problem isn't solved by new hardware and they better send me a real replacement when this happens again. One thing about Verizon that I don't understand in this entire process is why there is such a huge disconnect between the tech support and the factories. On multiple occasions, I had the tech support people tell me stuff was out of their hands and basically indicated the factory just does whatever they feel at the time.

I've been a loyal VZW customer for almost ten years, but damn, they are really pissing me off lately.

I had a DINC that completely froze on me after 1 yr 2 mo. The phone worked like an iPod, playing games, etc., but it would not sync with Gmail or permit me to make a call. I took it to one Verizon Wireless store and they told me I would have to get an upgrade since my 1 yr manufacturer warranty ran out. They insisted that without an extended warranty, I'm SOL. I called HTC HQ and chewed them out for providing a crappy phone - what kind of phone breaks down after only 1 yr. They finally told me to mail it and they will look to see if I can get a replacement. I didn't like that option so I went to another Verizon store - one where I purchased the DINC.

They were lot more sympathetic and offered to retro the $1.99/mo warranty if I would agree to purchase it there and then. I said yes and they shipped me a brand new DINC2 - it's brand new because it was in an original box, wraps still on, and new battery, etc. I love it. Although DINC2 has its own issues with Ginger Bread (the alarm clock goes in and out), I can live with it by downloading a free alarm clock in the market.

The lesson here is be persistent, go ask more than one Verizon store (don't deal with corporate HQ), and in the future get the $1.99/mo extended warranty. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Ok so I got my replacement phone yesterday. still the old software not GingerBread like the rep said and not only that but this phone has the same issues, as well as some overlooked cosmetic problems. when are they going to learn replacing the hardware does not fix the software problems. I talked with another rep today and the only action is to send another replacement Dinc.:'( This is ridiculous, I've had Verizon for 8 years and always in good standing, but this service is insane, anyone have any tips on what to do next? please help!

I'm glad at least some of you are having some luck with this. I got the 2.3.4 update, and started having some of the same problems discussed here. I called VZW and, under their recommendation, did a factory reset. That left the same problems unsolved, and added the complication that the phone would no longer read apps stored to the SD card. Great.

I've made upwards of 10 calls to HTC and Verizon. According to them, since my phone is outside the 1-year warranty, my only option is to mail the phone to HTC, which will cost a minimum of $75 repair charge and will leave me without a phone for at least 2 weeks. Other than that, VZW says I'm welcome to purchase a certified pre-owned phone until I'm eligible for an upgrade in February.

In other words, I'm SOL, with a phone that is more messed up than it was before I called Verizon. Hope you guys have better luck. Personally, I'm tired of fighting.

After you restart, go into the settings and do an unmount/mount of the SD card and the apps should come back. I had the issue as well and this fix worked. The downside is you have to do it every time after a battery pull.

Sounds like you are in the same boat as me.

I got my DINC refurb the other day and am just waiting on the low memory error to return. Right after I saw they sent me the same phone instead of the DINC2, I called Verizon to complain and basically set it up that I would be calling them back again when this same issue reoccurs and I wanted it noted in my account. They seemed to be OK with the prospect of me calling every few weeks and them having to send me another DINC as long as it was within the 90-day warranty carried by the refurb.

Since this is the first time they've sent me a refurb, I only made that note, but the next time, I'll be elevating the call to someone who can give me a real solution.

So yet another update, I called again because of the low on memory error, but still complained about the old issues I had after the update on the original phone and had them reference a forum post on Verizon's website that I found, droid incredible not receiving messages - Page 3 - Verizon Wireless Community
About half way down the page there is a response from a Verizon employee that states "If it is determined that the back-end provisioning is fine, and the issue is attributed to the update (known problem that has been escalated to HTC), they will give you an "additional option." I can't specify what that option is here, but I think you'll be pretty happy with it. If you have a representative that is unfamiliar with the process (it's pretty well known internally, but it's possible to get a rep that hasn't come across this situation), advise them to "Search InfoManager for 47597." There's only 1 search result, and that's the article discussing how to handle this problem with the Incredible."
The rep I was talking to had to search this info and then called me back and thanked me for being so patient and offered me a INCREDIBLE 2! :D Finally, it took a few calls and running a lot of crap but if you are persistent yo may get a new phone out of it, I will update again with more info tommorow when i get the phone! sorry for such a lengthy post but I hope this will help some of you out with service.

Im happy to post that I received my new incredible 2, and it works great. Just be persistent and hopefully all of you can get one too. Good luck all, Im going to play with my phone for a while now.:D

Nope. Didn't work for me. I've made 10-15 calls to VZW and HTC, and apparently my 3 options are to pay HTC $75 to revert me to Froyo (and lose my phone for a month), buy a $150 pre-own until my upgrade date, or wait on a patch release that may or may not ever happen.

I've come to the conclusion that it must depend on where you call from. I'm in Texas, and I guess my local call centers are less willing to make accommodations. I actually had one VZW rep say "you can make calls, right?" like that was supposed to be good enough. And when I tell them I'm having WiFi connectivity issues, they ALL ask whether I really need it when I can always get 3G. As much as I've loved this phone, and I'm very intrigued by the Vigor/Rezound, I don't think I can justify buying another HTC phone after this...

+1 I like HTC phones, and I may not be able to buy the Nexus Prime on launch day, but I am really considering whatever hot Samsung is available next time I upgrade. This OS upgrade failure was epic.

Gang,
I did factory resets, etc.
Always had the low storage space and dropped calls.
I installed the update manually.
What I did was copy my memory card to my pc.
Formatted the card.
Factory reset the phone and did the card again.
Copied my music, docs and videos back over.
Everything else installed from scratch again.
Works like a champ.

Only two issues were wireless tether and shootme I had to copy from the backup on my computer onto the sd card.
