hello all, my wife has an epic and I was wondering if there was a way to force the phone to roam. she had a lg optimus and there was an app that would do this. i have the settings set to do so but would like to force it if possible. she is bone stock, dosen't want it rooted.

The reason for this is where her sister lives is BAD sprint signal and good verizon. so when she goes to visit she can make/recieve calls and texts.

Thanks in advance

You'll have to google search Roam Control as it's no longer avalaible on the Play Store. Also you may indeed have to be rooted. I don't know for sure however, as I've never used it.

So far as I know, Roam Control is the best way to force roaming. It does require root, as do all the other "roaming only" software.

Just be careful using it, if you like being on Sprint. If more than 50% of your used minutes per line are roaming, they'll cut you off and recommend you find a "carrier that will work better for you".

I had this app on my evo 4g and it worked great. But now on my epic touch it doesn't work. Can someone tell me what setting I should have?

Yes rooting and using Roam Control is the only way. It works great. Just remember you HAVE to Root to force Roaming on Sprint phones. Why? because they don't want you to roam. Your "free nationwide roaming" comes at a price to Sprint. Yes they pay for your roaming. The older Sprint phones had 3 settings: Automatic, Sprint Only, and Roam Only. Now they only have Automatic and Sprint Only. Obviously, if you are roaming in automatic, the phone continues searching for a Sprint tower, running your battery down. If you could force Roam Only, it would be better for your batter. If you can force roaming and you use it too much, Sprint will terminate your contract with no warning. Your best option would be to call them and ask about a free AirRave to go in your house (a mini cell phone tower that resembles a wireless router and hooks into your PC, so it in fact uses YOUR internet bandwidth rather than Sprint's or a roaming tower). They just have to verify that you are in a poor signal area, and an unused line on your account to put the service on. There is about a $2 per month increase for tax on your bill, but I love mine! I went from 1-2 bars in my house to 6 bars upstairs and downstairs and about 4 in my basement (the AirRave sits in my office on the second floor).
