Free android to android calling apps?

I want to call for free internationally from USA to Canada. Both phones are android 2.3

Google+ can do a hangout, but voice is only done by starting a hangout and disabling video, and sound is speakerphone only.

Google Talk can't do voice only at all. In the contact settings, I notice that "voice call" is greyed out.

Skype, I hear can do free skype to skype calls. I'll be testing that next.



Can anyone else think of other ways we can talk over data and/or wifi, preferably using the handset mic and speaker?

Any articles would also help. I'm not against researching myself. I've been on Google for awhile now...

I've been using GTalk for the same purpose since 2 months. I'm calling from USA to India and the voice quality in android GTalk app is far better than the quality of normal phone call.

The other person who you wanna talk to should also have the app installed and should have a good enough data/wifi connection.

Do you do a video chat or is voice chat not greyed out for you?

I've done voice calls only so far. The mic icon is not grayed out for me and I can place a voice chat call by touching that icon.

Ah. I think my problem is I see a video cam icon, but no mic or anything. It says they are available for video chat.

Try Vonage Mobile. It can do phone to phone as well as phone to landlines. And all free to US and Canada.
