It's 5 AM, i'm talking on my phone. I go on the site to see how many minutes I'm using. All of a sudden, I notice that I have 25 dollars as a balance. I'm like.."Wait, I never added anything".. I looked at my payment history too. I've had to top up 3 times. Out of these 3 times, I've only bought 2 cards. My history says "Payment added to account" for March and April. I looked for May, and there's nothing. I have no credit card or anything linked to the account either. So I clicked restart plan month, and what do you know? It worked. Is this a glitch? VM being nice? Everyone, see if you have 25 dollars also in your account, maybe we all get a free month for compensation for 3G outages?

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago. Just magically had enough money in my account to pay for another month of service. Whether that was a mistake or not I don't know, I certainly wasn't going to call and find out. Just went with it and enjoyed my free month.

Virgin's billing, customer service and other systems are a kludged together mess of third party applications that don't talk to each other very well.

They have a glitch in their system that requires you to pay your first bill after switching to and Android phone twice.

If you already have a Virgin Mobile account and you try to activate your phone, you or the phone rep will be informed that you have to pay your bill before you can switch plans. Then, after you pay and switch plans, you'll be prompted that you've already paid your bill, so you'll have to have that payment refunded before you can activate your Android handset.

This is because their their regular billing system is required to process a payment before a plan switch can be made but their Android billing system is required to process a payment before a new Android plan can be activated.

The $25 you got was from the old billing system charging you to switch plans, then a Virgin rep refunding your $25 so you could be charged the $25 up-front bill payment required for the Android plan.

You're not really getting $25 for free, you're just getting your own money applied back to your account.

If this was transparent to you, it's because they have service reps watching for feature phone to android phone conversions and manually reprocessing the payments.

The reason it took so long to get the $25 back is that it takes a long time for people to manually go through all those Android activations and rebill them.

I didn't have a virgin mobile account before this. I got off my verizon plan and just switched to vm. I've only bought two cards, when I have topped up 3 times. So paid for two months, for the third month, I never needed a card.

Heck I called the other day about a 3G issue, and when we got done I told the phone rep I wanted to go ahead and pay my bill for next month. He says why? Ah.... Dumbfounded I said because in 2 days its due anyway so while I have you one the phone i would just like to take care of he. He then says, this month is on us! and I quote " we at virgin mobile value you as a customer, and want you to have the best possible service." I was shocked and speechless, all I could do is say thank you. WOW Verizon would have never done that *hit in a million years. And i was with them for 15 years.
