Free Wireless tethering

OK, I went back and restored the MYN rom and tried the pre10 version with no success.

HOWEVER, I uninstalled that, went to the original link in the first post for the pre9 version and got connected. The speed is only 5.5 Mbps but it is connected... and just bumped to 18 Mbps by moving the phone to a window.

Is that the type of speed I should expect?

5.5 sounds normal but 18 sounds a little off, i think.

Another thing you might check is to see cause it can cause connectivity issues is if you're trying to connect on a dirty channel. WT comes configured to connect on channel 6 which is the most widely used and overly populated channel. Download wifi analyzer from the market and run a scan to see if theres a better option near you and switch WT to that channel. Menu > Settings > Change channel

A) You are rooted correct? Meaning you can download android terminal emulator from the market, type in SU [press enter] and it returns "#"
B) You do have super user (app) installed and can grant applications root permissions correct?
C) When Android Wireless tether ran the first time, you granted it root permissions?
D) You didn't download "Android wifi tether" from the market, and rather read the instructions in post #1, correct?

Answer those and were off to a good start.

Thanks a lot for the first question. When I tried the emulator is said denied even though I had the SU app and that I did root. I found out what went wrong by accident. Lets just say I fixed it and now it shows "#".

For other people that might have tried this method from xda, [Guide] How to apply the new OTA 3.29.651.5 when you have clockwork and s-off - xda-developers , this is what kept me from using wifi to my laptop. Hope it helps and it is always good to do a nandroid back up before doing anything new.

Is there anyway to fix the speeds I am getting? It's like .4 down and .1 up or something outrageous.

lol thats not your speed, thats the total amount of data you've transfered which, BTW, if it shows .4 and ,1 .... you haven't even used WT because those are what it takes just launch the app. See screen shot . This is me launching the app, not connecting my PC to it, not using it in any way, just launching it.

I guess I should have just tried it first

Thanks

I'm using my Evo as my modem to post this. Works very well, and the speeds are respectable. Download according to speed.net says anywhere from 5k to 1.5k, depending on what test-site I choose, although it seems much faster.

Just so you know, I rooted my phone with Unrecovered, and so far it is working fine. Had tried the wireless tether from the Market, but it didn't work, even though my computer could see it. After finding this thread and downloading the latest version from the page 1, my computer hooked up right away. I was having an issue with connectivity when the screen would go to sleep, but found the tip from jerzyiroc to disable the wake_lock feature. It took a couple of screen wake-ups after that for it to "learn", but now it works fine. The screen dims, but does not go blank.

At this point I'm tempted, because this works so well, to get rid of my Clearwire modem (which costs me about $60/month), but I'll take my time, and make sure my carrier doesn't ding me! Thanks all for a great thread.... my first post on this forum by the way; glad I found it!

thanks just rooted my evo and couldn't get it to work, read this and BAM! got my wifi ipad on the go with a connection to my phone.

if i own the EVO do i absolutely need to root my phone to tether it to my laptop? I tried easy tether and i had a lot of trouble...i also have a slightly older MAC G5 desktop. Can i tether to that as well? help

2 macs 2 evos -- nada

both were rooted via sticky- installed apk from XDA- my mac books see the network- i changed channels on the EVO

Still can not connect

New to this whole thing so sorry if this question has been asked, I just couldn't find what I'm looking for..Do you have unlimited access to the internet with this app or is there a cap or anything? Is it possible to get charged by Sprint by using this? Thanks in advance!

possible? sure, anything's possible.

probable? no. unless you flagrantly use your wifi hotspot/cell phone as your main internet connection and use it non-stop... then they might get a little nosy.

I am having an issue with 2.06 in that it will only connect to the internet if I use no encryption between my evo and laptop. Tried going to 2.05 with the same issue. Everything works fine with no encryption, so I can do it that way, but shouldn't it also work just as well with encryption enabled? I am running root with a stock rom unrEVOked3 and su permissions are granted to wireless tether. The laptop is running Vista and connects fine as long as there is no encryption. If I try to encrypt, sometimes I get a message that there is limited connectivity, but not always, but there is no internet in any case.

Seems I'm having issues as well out of the blue. It worked great Saturday and now nothing will connect to it. I've tried other versions and so forth but access control doesn't even show anything trying to connect as it did.

I'm running Azreal 3.0 with a Netarcy kernel. Odd tho when I use the official hotspot I can connect then (even tho my accounts not provisioned for it). I wonder why the android tether would just stop working but the official works fine. I've also been running this rom for awhile so it's not a newly flashed rom

I tried turning off access control and encryption. Still no dice
