Freezing / Lock-ups and SD card issues?

I've read over most of this thread and have found that some people are having luck with reformatting, and others need to buy new cards altogether.

Formatting never solved my problem so I bought a new 4gb Class 4 Kington Micro SD card and have never had an issue. Some info that I gained from reading various different forums and bug reports on the issue (with other Android devices[LG Ally in specific, but others as well]) have come to the conclusion that Class 2 SD cards have a tendency to cause problems, and that Sandisk and Samsung cards also tend to have issues. This is all from a personal standpoint, and the formatting fix may solve your problem, this is just an alternate to try if you have not had luck formatting.

I too am having issues daily with my microSD card. I have not tried any of the methods yet though.

Has anyone that has tried the custom ROM had any problems with the stock Samsung card?

well that's good that Sprint has acknowledged the issue. I got a Class 4 PNY 8gb for my girlfriend's Optimus and she hasn't seen the issue since.

Also I'm not sure about the whole Class 2 causing errors thing. My Epic has been fine and it came with a Samsung 16gb Class 2.

Yep, replaced my SD Card and it solved most of my problems. I formatted the new one when I put it in and it hasn't done the hard freeze in almost a week. I have had a problem with it doing a qucik shut down/restart, but I noticed my Angry Birds was moved, I had both it and Angry Birds Seasons. Got rid of Angry Birds and my phone no longer is doing the quick restart and everything seems to be working fine. Getting the new SD card should be the very first thing you do after buying this phone. I got a 4 gig at Walmart for $10.

I'll have to suck it up and get a new card myself. I've noticed I experience freeze/reboots frequently using google's nav app....like just about everytime.

Looking through the bugreport and logcat, I'll see messages like:
W/SharedBufferStack(223): waitForCondition(LockCondition) timed out (identity=223, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again.

..though I don't know if a different SD card will resolve it. Googling around makes it seem like it could be an opengl driver issue.

SD auto ejects/reboot

My LG kept unmounting the stock SD card by itself and kept rebooting and at times when an application was moved to SD the icon would be gone. I fixed this by buying a new SD card from Target and reformating it (not quick format) and then copying the contents of my old SD card to the new one and inserting into the phone and now it works perfectly. Not sure whats up with the stock samsung SD card but the new one only cost 30 dollars and all is well.... no more reboots, slow downs, crashes , ghost ejecting of the SD card either.

continued from thunderom thread. I replaced mine with a sdHC class 2 16gig card but still have the problems. However whenever I plug it into the computer It only reads that it is 14.7. I think im going to try to reformat it and see if that takes care of the issue, I didnt reformat it before I put it in. Would it be ok to just copy everythign off the card save it to my computer and then after its reformatted copy it back to the card?

Yea thats what I was thinking. When I get home I'll have to check to see what my 8gb is I may switch to that if its a higher class

A co-worker of mine just got the Optimus S on Friday. Will see him again Monday, if he is having card issues, will format it and see what happens.

Hey guys I have read everything in here, I am having similar issues with my optimus S, the error messages with the SD, and the very random reboots, the whole deal. I noticed my brothers phone seems to do better and he has the same exact one, I was wondering if maybe one of the apps was causing the random reboots, I have angry birds on my sd card, and someone in here said something about that probably making their phone reboot.

I called sprint, LG, the store, they all supposedly don't know a thing about it, they all want me to get a new phone, or send it in, I find it very hard to believe they haven't heard a single complaint! .... I did the format thing on the computer, I have done it on the phone and nothing, although I will say it got better, much better after I formatted it on the computer, but it still will reboot/reset (although very rarely) at times and I will still get the error messages once in a while. Strangely enough it never reboots while I am using it, I wonder why that is, and I do use it a lot, usually it happens after I leave it alone for a long time, so I am hoping its just a bad sd card, and the solution will be just to buy a new one?

So which one do I buy? I have never purchased one before, I was looking at a 4gb kingston class 4 card, will that do?

I am not bagging on Angry Birds, but it isn't worth causing my phone issues. I will keep it for awhile longer, but if it keeps bugging out I am going to get it off my SD card.

Yeah I went ahead and ordered the one I mentioned, and yes I have noticed Angry birds or any game disappear and become useless on the SD card from time to time, it hasn't happened nearly as often after I formatted it on the PC, in fact I don't think it has happened yet after I did that. I noticed my phone went almost the whole day without a reset, then I played angry birds for a while, about an hour later it did reset on me, so I decided to to just take it off the card, and so far I have played angry birds and it has not reset, but its only been about a day so far, I am still counting on it resetting since I keep getting messages telling me the card is not in there....Thanks for answering me, this is more helpful than calling LG or sprint ....One more thing, it never resets on me if I am using the phone, and I have been using it half the time, so I dont know what that really tells me, I am not a expert on these things, just a investigator lol.

This has only happened twice (although I do get the sd unmount regularly) but what happens is my phone automatically reboots and then when I go to my apps, angry birds, pandora, yelp and a few other apps turn into generic android icons and when I try to open them, a screen pops up saying, "Sorry! The application Launcher Pro has stopped unexpectedly. Options are Force Close or Report. Anyone else have this going on, what can I do?

Safe to assume these apps you have moved to the SD card? If your card is having a mount/dismount issue and you have those apps on the card ......

Yes they were on the SD card so I know it has something to do with that...but I've had the unmount issue since day one. This problem with those apps not working is new.
