from sprint to straighttalk on used sph l710

You actually didn't mention a S3 on the post where you said you're a level 3 tech and no Sprint phones have SIM cards!

You can be an almighty tech, but don't know everything about Sprint phones, the Photon, the HTC One, the Galaxy S4 and a few others with Sprint do have SIM cards for international capabilities.

I understand that many people think that Verizon and Sprint have CDMA phones only, but that's not true.

Just my two cents.

Yea I have to agree with you @STARGATE ( No shots thrown @Weazrbmxr). Sprint PCS, Metro PCS, Boost Mobile, Verizon Wireless, & Straight Talk Wireless all run on CDMA Frequencies. ATT & T-mobile runs on GSM. It all depends on the type of phone you have. Manufacturers such as Samsung, Apple, LG, Motorola & etc makes Dual Band phones which can use both frequencies either CDMA or GSM.

It's a fruitless effort. Sprint is the only one that CAN'T be unlocked to other carriers, there's no sim card to hold all your account information. Sprint uses built-in memory for that. And unless I'm wrong, there's no rom out there that can change that, or emulate that.

I've personally talked to level 3 tech support at sprint, and when i told him that my s3 is rooted. He asked why? He said there's no way to unlock it for global use, or be able to drop it onto another carrier, so what's the point? Cause a rooted phone is the only way to go.

So directly from sprint saying that it is not possible to switch carriers with their phones.

The sprint Reps don't ever know anything in my opinion. I worked for Metro PCS and they flashed phones on a daily basis. Metro PCS, Verizon, & Sprint phones all run off CDMA frequencies. Verizon & Sprint phones were always getting flashed to Metro PCS. Also the same for Boost Mobile which is CDMA as well. I'm pretty certain that its the same for Straight Talk as well. The phones aren't being unlocked, the Rom is being flashed to function on a different carrier network.

Can everyone on this forum please pass along that NAM programming (flashing/programming a CDMA phone) has very little to do with ROM/software flashing.
NAM programming is putting the phone in DIAG (diagnostic) mode and using QPST/CDMA Workshop/etc to reprogram the phone. It is not effecting the ROM and vice versa. Data settings for streaming and such are the only things effected by flashing roms over a flashed phone.

Rooting phones and flashing Roms does not unlock them for other carriers. On some gsm htc models you can unlock by attaining S-off in the bootloader.

I really think this forum needs to stop discussing flashing phones and stick to software mods. You people are confusing each other on a daily basis and half the people are sharing total misinformation..

again SIM card slot in most CDMA phones is only for 4G authentification AND NOT GSM SERVICE.

FLASHING = NAM Programming - not affected by rom/root/etc(although switching roms and unlocking bootloaders can be beneficial in accomplishing a phone flash and can be preprogrammed with specific scripts ran for other carriers' asthetics)

FLASHING A ROM = writing files to the phones internal partitions to change the software...it doesn not effect the NAM programming.

Also to the people saying it's stupid to switch carriers...it must be nice to have unlimited resources to pay sprint and other major companies for your flawless service....I have worked on many phone services and phones, flashed and not flashed, rooted and modified phones and have never cared for this type of bigotry. All the "fly-by-night" prepaid services are owned by the major campanies and run the same infrastructure. Flashing a phone to cricket or pageplus or metro can be awesome and quality of service on all networks depends on quality of phone and location. Hence why it is better to take your sprint phone to cricket/metro/PP/straight talk than to use their phones. if anyone has questions again. message me. i'm not really into posting out here in the forums because people are really not into reading and will just bog you down with misinformation and argumentitive nonsense much like the people hollering that Sprint told them you cant move to another network or saying service are bad on companies they have never experienced(or havent in years)

I really want people to stop answering questions without researching your answers

i just switched from sprint to straight talk and my phone Samsung Galaxy S3 works just fine. You have to change network from LTE/CDMA to CMDA only. Then dial ##72786# in your dialer. the phone will reboot and you will be able to use it. I am having trouble getting 4G but I get 3G ok.

So basically now it works but no 4G. Not worth it imo, Id rather sell my s3 on ebay and get a phone that I know works for everything on ST.

Yeh its possible. I just did it like 2 weeks ago. He is right. I had my S2 with Sprint, Boost, and Straight Talk. My sprint bill was monthly $97, and ST is only $45/m. I did everything online on ST site. Never even had to call sprint I just got a prorated ETF for $120 like a week later. But first ST ported my sprint number over and had my phone activated with them in less than an hour. ((Never cancel current service before you port a # from it. Your current contract will auto cancel with out you needing to call, and as soon as your number is ported by the new provider. If you cancel first, your # is lost forever)) BUT, the problem is you dial that dialer code that he said, THEN immediatly after you have to enter the MSL sprint unlock key. If your not rooted then you have to convince sprint to give it to you. If your rooted to get the code just download alogcat from the market and watch the video on using it to get MSL code to show in the Logs in the App. Then you enter that code, hit ok, device reboots, update your PRL and PROFILE under settings, then your done. Your on Sprints network if you look under "Phone Info", but actually your activated through Straight Talk. Its weird because I'm on sprint network it says, but on activated service with ST. I know its sprint towers because my signal is still in the same places ;) So, they must use Sprints towers too or partner idk. Its also odd how on ST site under FAQs, it clearly says GSM only no CDMA can be used on their network. Weird Idk... But Im using my sprint phone with them regardless. So, YES it is possible to use a sprint or CDMA phones on T-Mobile, AT&T, GSM, Sim card networks, or w/e straight talk uses. I dont get near the 2.5 GB limit and I use a lot of internet and data apps wit no WiFi and never had a limit problem. Note: You cant switch from Boost to Sprint. They only allow it Vice Versa. Its stupid. I'd recommend ST if you can root and unlock your phone. You give up 4G capabilities though but idc I never was in a 4G zone anyways. There are also other ways to get MSM code. ST site actually has unlock instructions under their "devices info".

I took Sprint EVO 4g to ST. No problems here. I see we have people bickering about what you can and can't do. Im agreeing with supreme83 about doing your research. Half the stuff I read on here is ppl getting in way over their heads and talking out the ***. I'm all about getting the most out of my phone. I come here for information not arguing, I can get enough of that right here at the house.

from everything i have looked up involving switching to straight talk i see that u can switch any gsm/cdma phone except blackberry and iphones..u can purchase a new sim card for 6.99 or cdma for 14.99 via st site

i just bought a used galaxy s3. it's the sprint sph l710 model. i want to use it with my current straighttalk account. i've seen youtube vidioes on unlocking the phone- but this model has only the micro SD slot and no sim card slot. can it be unlocked and used with my current straighttalk account? if so, how? -fishh

Straight talk s3 uses verizon towers I have the phone sch s968c its a cdma phone it does have a spot for a sim card but doesn't use it I also have it rooted with a custom recovery cmr don't listen to the other fools on here thinking they know it all when they don't yes u can use sprints variant because it is a cdma and u can also flash a verizob 4g phone to paige plus if u can find someone to flash for u soo have at it and enjoy

I have a Sprint SGS III SPH-L710 & I have a Question about the flashing part well actually more about the setting on the phone After flash is done to any network 'esn' 'IMEI' 'MEID' Clone! if you go into SQLite then Phone Info then db_systemproperty then t_systemproperty should i change these setting for the network I'm flashing to or mod them in any way or keep them the same I'm a noob so just asking

can you please help me with the process of converting a samsung galaxy s (sprint) to straight talk using verizon thank you

I think this 3rd level tech guy or whatever he calls himself is just hilarious....! I am 14 and think I probably know more than him... So I started doing some research on how to flash a Sprint GS3 to Straight Talk and decided to come here because I already had an accounton here to reply to posts with. But yes, this guy is right about Sprint phones not having SIM Card slots, but here is my problem, I have a GS3 from Nex-Tech Wireless here in central Kansas which is a branch owned by Sprint... So that's why I thought it wouldn't be much different... It is strictly a CDMA phone, no SIM Card slit or nothing, so that's why I am looking this up. You can flash a CDMA phone with its own network to another CDMA network without rooting it, which is what I am wanting to do. Idid this with my Droid Incredible 1 a long while ago, and gotten a little rusty with it, so how do I do it with this GS3? Straight Talk uses Verizon towers as much as I know here in Central Kansas. I don't need 4g or whatever, just 3g because the service here where I'm at is crap anyways. Could I do this using my PC with a program or something? If someone could get back to me, that would be great...! Thanks!!! Preferably by Wednesday afternoon...

I believe Straight Talk uses T-Mobile or AT&T, so you wouldn't be able to use a Sprint phone with that service. Sprint is CDMA and AT&T/T-Mobile are GSM.

With straight talk uses Sprint to.

It is possible. I have a Sprint S3 that I've had on straight talk for over a year now. I sent it out to a guy on ebay who offers flashing for $75 got it back within a week of sending and works without any issue.
