from sprint to straighttalk on used sph l710

You can flash a 4g phone to any network with the right know how. Might even need to break out the soldering gun. But to get the 4g to work on other networks are the problem.

DUDE! The first thing it says you need is a sim card!! This is the whole point! I'm a level 3 tech and know my stuff, there are no sim cards on any sprint phones. And as far as i know, there never will be.

And like robotron says, all the carriers use different frequencies, they have to or all our data and calls would get overlapped and corrupted most likely. Now if boost mobile is still around, which it sounds like they are, that's 1 of the only other carriers that i know of, that a sprint phone will work with. Like kg4 says, you'll need to clear your esn, and update your IMEI number accordingly. Ok, I'm done ranting, i won't comment in here anymore.

ummm.... you don't sound to me like you know your stuff...

People saying Sprint phones don't use SIM cards are wrong, the Photon had both, CDMA and GSM.

I've used mine in Mexico with Telcel without problems!

Yea that's an S4 buddy, new phone which does have a sim card, and like i said in the post "as far as i know" and they've gone towards sim cards. Now if you find an S3 that has the same as your pic let's talk. And as long as you have it up, it shows that it's my birthday! So i still win.

You actually didn't mention a S3 on the post where you said you're a level 3 tech and no Sprint phones have SIM cards!

You can be an almighty tech, but don't know everything about Sprint phones, the Photon, the HTC One, the Galaxy S4 and a few others with Sprint do have SIM cards for international capabilities.

I understand that many people think that Verizon and Sprint have CDMA phones only, but that's not true.

Just my two cents.

All you had to do was look at the model number on the post to know it is a S3 .
Sprints S3 has a embedded sim card for lte. Which means no swapping.

i just bought a used galaxy s3. it's the sprint sph l710 model. i want to use it with my current straighttalk account. i've seen youtube vidioes on unlocking the phone- but this model has only the micro SD slot and no sim card slot. can it be unlocked and used with my current straighttalk account? if so, how? -fishh

I use my sprint phone using PrepaYd.com. works well. There is also expo.com, another service that allows byod from sprint.

I have a sprint galaxy s3 i710 i still have valid contract but would like to switch to straighttalk. How do i do this do i need to unlock or flash.

Flash HTC Evo to Boost Mobile - Flash Phone - Flash Your Phone - YouTube

I have been looking as well and so far, im seeing its possible, though i need to figure out specifics.

It is possible to work with the memory of a rooted phone. some services also use such and i have straight talk on mine(im looking for this for someone else), and straight talk doesn't use sim cards. sim cards originally held those phones back from many carriers which is why they are easier to figure out how to unlock. We don't wanna unlock it, we just wanna flash it, and by what im seeing, the poster wanted the same thing when they posted. to flash it over.

Yet today sprint was called. if i have to do this myself I will. -.- cricket of all things said they wouldn't flash it. Well correction, someone at cricket. You have to remember though, i know from experience thats a bunch of crap. They are just getting desperate to sell their phones. They get paid to sell the phones and set up service. Not tell you the truth. Probably helps this is why i hate working sales. Ive seriously watched people lie to get more sales and couldn't do a damn thing about it. most of them were managers and supervisors above me. I knew they were lying and i couldn't do a damned thing. thankfully, ive never sold phones. its just that i hated people lying when selling newspapers. of course, what can you do when you can be fired on the spot?

Be nice Their are ways to unlock it without a sim card, and thats what this one is looking for, not for more of the same they already know. they are looking for information about how to do it, because you bet your *** it can be done. I think though this person might settle for flashing it over as they don't seem to want it for the worlds different carriers, just straight talk.

I rarely chime in on these but there is a lot of misunderstandings and misuse of terms goign on and the guy chiming in as "3rd Level Tech" has no idea what he is talking about.

"Unlocking" a phone - gsm term for unlocking a phone for use with a SIM card.
"Flashing" a phone - cdma term for programming MDN/MIN/Data settings/PRL in cdma phone for new newtwork

the pic is of an S4. many of the newer cdma (sprint and verizon) phones have SIM cards slots but on most of these phones they are for 4G Lte authentication only. A few (mostly Verizon's) are global phones and can be rooted and have the sim card unlocked for GSM carriers to varying results.

A sprint phone can be used on straight talk since they use many different types of phones.

the guys talking about the bandwidths and frequencies used by carriers....ignore that stuff (edit: it matters depending on your area and what is being used by a particular company in your area but most will work, best verification is to check with the company. a yes from them is always a yes and a no may still be a yes as far as an answer to the question will it work on that network, if you know what your doing.

I wouldnt recommend letting anyone do the flashing that requires ESN modifications and donor devices lol you know what i mean. To me this ruins both phones for most peoples future use and is a clumsy way to get onto a new newtwork

1st make sure the carrier you want can/will activate the phone.....Cricket takes any cdma. Boost/Virgin Mobile are Sprint and will not be activating any Sprint phones with a bad esn. Again, straight talk is offering BYOP on cdma and gsm phones. PagePlus is Verizon..and there are many services out there. GSM phones can be unlocked to use with other gsm carriers and data will work as long as your APN information is configured for new carrier.
1 your using a cdma phone. so "flashing" services/info are what you want to look into.
IF DIY youll need cdma tool (DFS) or CDMA workshop to program and change prl. 2 You'll need a PRL for new carrier, MSL code (getprop.ril MSL if on below 4.0.4 on the e4gt), drivers for your e4gt, and APN information

google any of the terms i mention. and the information is easily out there. you'll need to check other forums to find more info as AC does not have much on the topic or any major developers for that matter...i stopped coming around here and got into other forums because as much as i love the "android community" the people here can sometimes be well meaning enthusiast but most often are trolls screaming about how knowledgeable they are while giving misinformation to each other that can damage your phone. none of this is illegal. taking a phone you own to a new carrier that will activate it is not illegal. Flashing the phone is not hard and is a matter of having diagnostic drivers installed correctly, the correct prl and information for new carrier, and reading instructions without altering them. You're looking inthe wrong place for any information about flashing phones

If anyone needs help with flashing or rooting a phone. PM me. - thats not a sales pitch for any services or private solutions... just a neighbor offering to help free you from the Matrix

Sprint phones only work on sprint. No sim card = no different carriers. You're locked in on sprint. And even if you were able to unlock it like you say you can, where you gonna put the sim card? You'd also have to find, but most likely create, a super custom rom for all the radios to work at all. Should have read the description before buying the wrong phone. Your only option now is to open a sprint account, and then use your newish phone on the sprint network only.

Not true. I worked for Metro PCS and they flashed phones on a daily basis. Metro PCS, Verizon, & Sprint phones all run off CDMA frequencies. Verizon & Sprint phones were always getting flashed to Metro PCS. Also the same for Boost Mobile which is CDMA as well. I'm pretty certain that its the same for Straight Talk as well. The phones aren't being unlocked, the Rom is being flashed to function on a different carrier network.
