From Twitter: "Thunderbolts are go!!!!"

I am new to this site and to the forums, but I have been following everything since I decided I am going to purchase my first Android phone and ditch my BB Tour. Most definitely going with the T-Bolt whenever the hell it arrives...

But I did speak with multiple VZW reps, and yes I know their credibility is about as accurate as anyone who said OJ didn't kill his wife, but they told me that if you already have an unlimited data plan, you will be grandfathered in to the $30/month unlimited plan. If you are signing a new contract or adding an unlimited plan then the price will cost more, but they just didn't know an exact price as of yet.

Just what I was told that is all...We shall see

the whole grandfathered thing changes with 4g. att pulled it. if you up to a 4g device you get the 4g rates.

When I read the title of this thread I broke out my Fat Tire (see beer thread) Now I'm drunk AND dissapointed..:P

Att still allows you to be grandfathered in. I actually just did it when upgrading to the Atrix... However Att's "4g" is terrible which is why the Atrix is going back and I'm browsing the Thunderbolt forums.

Also, everybody I spoke to from Verizon about switching over insisted that the $30 unlimited plan wasn't going away for 4g data.

hmm, att told me if i upgraded to a 4g phone atrix or inspire i would have to go with a new data plan, i asked several times. same answer

Aren't AT&T's rates like an additional $10.00 for their "4G" feed? Or is that Sprint that charges that?

that was sprint

hmmmm talking to the reps at vzw they said that i wont have a problem switching to an 4g phone with my grandfathered plan. where do you get your info? although i will say this

a friend of mine had a alltel 3g data card and wanted to transfer it in my name, now she called numerous times to see if she could get it transfered in my name, they all said yes

well the day comes to transfer it and they say it cant be done. so i guess we'll see when the day a 4g comes out to vzw.
He didn't say that, someone else directed it towards him to see if he'd give an actual date.

lol thanks

I'm confused....

I am not in a 4G area so they can't possibly charge me a 4G data plan rate if I purchase the TB.

And I know I really can't trust what anyone says without it coming directly from VZW press release.... but I had been told that the data plans will be the same regardless of whether you are 3G or 4G.... But that the current data plan structure is changing to a tiered structure whereby unlimited is going away (was told no ETA). I was also told that if I am on an unlimited data plan before the data plan price structure changes, then I will be locked into my $30 unlimited rate for the duration of my contract.

I am planning to use my upgrade for the TB... so now I wonder and worry whether the data plans are actually going to change at the same time as the TB launch.... I have no data plan right now (enV Touch) so now I am tempted to go upgrade to INC and add the unlimited data plan so that I can be locked into the unlimited plan.... However, the risk is.... if the TB is not released before my 14 return window, then I am stuck with an INC (because I won't pay full price for a phone).

Decisions decisions.....

I would assume that 4g and 3g data plans will remain the same until the LTE network is fully rolled out, then we will see some price craziness happen.

We'll have to make our decisions when we know the final pricing.

I'm thinking, as you posted, that it'll be $30/month for unlimited data at the TB's launch. I think it will change to tiered plans when LTE is more wide-spread.

So we'd be locked into our $30/month unlimited as long as we kept our TBs

the reps don't know anything. They haven't even been told the prices for 4G or what the limitations will be.

im speaking of att. as someone said something about getting an inspire or atrix to keep there grandfathered unlimited. because att told me if i upgraded to a 4g device id have to use a new plan. no grandfathered.

you may have noticed that verizon hasnt announced rates on the bolt, oh wait they still havent announced the release. currently this phone is no more than commercials on tv.

I have had my contract up for about a month and I have an old blackberry curve. I dont want to chance getting another phone for a few weeks personally. I would rather just wait. Although, my friends have been trying to pull me to the iphone. *rolls eyes*
