I'm confused....

I am not in a 4G area so they can't possibly charge me a 4G data plan rate if I purchase the TB.

And I know I really can't trust what anyone says without it coming directly from VZW press release.... but I had been told that the data plans will be the same regardless of whether you are 3G or 4G.... But that the current data plan structure is changing to a tiered structure whereby unlimited is going away (was told no ETA). I was also told that if I am on an unlimited data plan before the data plan price structure changes, then I will be locked into my $30 unlimited rate for the duration of my contract.

I am planning to use my upgrade for the TB... so now I wonder and worry whether the data plans are actually going to change at the same time as the TB launch.... I have no data plan right now (enV Touch) so now I am tempted to go upgrade to INC and add the unlimited data plan so that I can be locked into the unlimited plan.... However, the risk is.... if the TB is not released before my 14 return window, then I am stuck with an INC (because I won't pay full price for a phone).

Decisions decisions.....

I have the Env Touch too, and I was thinking the same thing! I do have an old
Samsung Omina, which I HATE but I would be willing to swap it out until the TB
come out just to get on the $30 unlimited plan and hopefully be grandfathered in!
It is worth a shot!!!

yeah, they changed that recently, but the person was asking about 4g phones and not wanting to get charged if there not in a 4g area. when WIMAX first came out it was like this, "dont life in a 4g area but have the evo? 10 dollars please!" lol

Yep, they blew it in the PR part of their fee increase initially by calling it a 4G data charge or something like that. Their clarification helped.

i also have a enV Touch but i do have unlimited data on it so i'm confused why you need to switch granted its not a smartphone, so do you need a separate smartphone data plan to be grandfathered in? if so it looks like i'm screwed cuz i dont have a smartphone to switch to till TB release

You'll need to switch to a smart phone data plan. You're on a feature phone data plan.

Don't worry too much about the data plan. I really think the smart phone data plans will remain the same for a awhile.

I actually think I have to switch data plans too. My data plan states BlackBerry Email & Web for $29.99. But I'm not concerned.

I find the launch of this phone or lack of and rumors almost funny at this point.

I was at the bestbuy a few days ago and a guy was pre-ordering the Thunderbolt and they told him he could pick in up monday.

Today I went to bestbuy a hour ago to grab a few movies and went by the mobile department and they had a sign up now ( not a big nice glossy sign just a print out from a normal printer ) above the picture of the Thunderbolt saying Available 2-28-2011.

When a sales rep came up and asked if I needed any help, I pointed at the sign and said I don't believe that and laughed. He laughed and said " Me either, I'm sure we will get a call tomorrow morning from verizon saying it's delayed again"

My translation, I'm thinking/hoping we will get a offcial release date in a few days time, this week I hope.
