Froyo ETA Set

do you all remember in a thread on AC a guy had 2.2 on his X that was a couple weeks ago. thread title Root on 2.2 Mac

the leaked screen shot shows the sound slider with a vibrate symbol rather than the silent symbol, which I fine very annoying when I don't want my phone to ring but want it to vibrate quickly

OOOOohhhhhhhh. Hahaha. I understand now. Yes, I am a fan of that too.

Yeah, I remember talking to him. He had an early dev build of 2.2, this one seems to be much more recent.

Every time i check for updates, it says... " Check for updates was not available at this time, try again later"

Anyone else getting this?

We are not talking about the Official OTA update. We are talking about a leaked 2.2 build that will be very close to the official 2.2 build (if it's not that official build) that will be made available for download as a zip file via a link provided by someone soon.

I understand that the update is not available yet, but normal it would say something like, "your device is up to date", or "there are no updates available for your device". I am getting something that is not the norm. Its like it is telling me that the update service is not working on my X

Did you remove some of the stock "bloat" apps after you rooted? This may be why you're getting the error. I am rooted but I have not removed any apps so I do not know if this could be your issue or not. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the message you're getting.

So any idea of what we can expect will happen if we use this leaked update.zip and then the official gets rolled out on lets say Aug 29th?

this is like waiting for a leak when i had a storm1 the funny thing is i wont know what to do if it does leak (just like when i had my bb but i do have paypal just wish lyrcidal was on android)..and yes i am rooted again dont know why (free wifi that ill prob never use lol) oh i know why it was easy for cheap money lol..is there any way someone could post a proper walkthru for us less intelligent people on how to properly set up a nandroid file (whatever that is) and how to install the leak to our phones :) oh and btw i need it in english and able to be 3yr old explanations woof woof

I just read over at MDW that we need to be able to get into recovery mode to apply this update. What does that mean? I havent even rooted yet just bc i wanted to make sure i could get Froyo without unrooting first. I really hope this gets made as simple as download the Update.zip to SD, Open Update.zip via Astro, sit back and watch all the cute skateboarding droids lol

His twitter also says it installs via recovery manual update.

To get into recovery: (taken from my droid world forum)
Power off device
press and hold the home key
press the power button (when device powers on release power button but continue to hold the home key)
when the triangle appears release the home button
press the search key (far right)
Using the volume key move cursor down to "apply update.zip from sdcard" press OK (menu key, button on far left)

We'll see. I'm working tonight until 2am (pacific time) but I'll probably wake up around 6 just to get this worked out and tested and then maybe get a couple hours of sleep after that.

I remember good ol' Lyricidal's hybrids. You know that for a little while Birdman (yes, the same Birdman that figured out how to root the DX) was doing hybrids also before he moved on to Android? I was in a BBM group with him testing crap out. He helped us get 5.0 onto the 8330's.
