Froyo OTA: First Impressions

Well Verizon was slow to release Froyo for a reason...they probably knew there were still issues to be worked out. People kept complaining and asking when Froyo was going to come out. Verizon more than likely didn't want to release Froyo until it could rid it of all of these issues that people like myself are complaining about. I guess they gave into the pressure and released Froyo with the knowledge of these bugs in order for the public to stop asking and complaining about why its not out. Just my opinion anyway...

Yeah, I've noticed that ATK won't kill a lot of stuff any more. Like My Verizon, SportsTap, Amazon MP3, and lots of others. You actually have to go in and force close to get them to stay closed. It sucks.

And battery life is noticeably worse with Froyo. I can barely get through a work day on a charge, where before I was getting 1 1/2 to 2 days, on the Seidio 1750 battery.
Download from the Market " Task Manager" by Adao Team It does kill everything on Froyo, some programs back, then you kill it with Astro, and then back to Task Manager kill the remained open Apps and then you will have it closed for the day a least you open a program associate to. Now I am keeping 215 to 240 free memory through the day! try it its better than ATK. Also make sure when you guys open Task Manager go to menu/setting and mark> Show System apps and services, then in Task Manager select to Ignore all HTC/Google system Apps, the rest those that you dont like it to be running in the background leave it to the Auto Kill.

I seriously doubt that Verizon gave into pressure to release Froyo. Verizon has never really cared about meeting anyone else's needs when it comes to release dates.

Is there something you have to do to activate flash. I have tried a couple of sites and the videos dont work. Under my manage applications "all" tab it shows "Adobe flash player 10.1 52kb. If I tap that. all the buttons are grayed out.

anyone have an answer for this?

Got the Froyo update yesterday and the first thing I want to know is how to get rid of the Droid splash screen at boot...or at least mute the mechanical Droid voice. Annoying.

Music Player Has Alzheimer's

i used the OTA posted on the site yesterday. Everything went smoothly but now the twitter app refuses to log in and if i pause the music player and do something else when I come back the player loses track of where it was and restarts the song. Not sure if this is happening for anyone else but it is really irritating

I noticed this when using the ACast player also. It really is irritating, particularly with a podcast.

Anyone else experiencing the music player losing track of where you paused the song? Very annoying as I listen to a lot of longer mp3 mixes.

Not impressed

The biggest drawback for me is Dinc thinks it is in usb on some of my chargers. It "ties up" the SD card. What this means is that I can't listen to my podcast in Doggcatcher while in the booster/cradle in the car. Battery life is not as good.
All that for a flashlight as far as I can tell.
The BT mono earpiece audio routing doesn't work either.

I have encountered no bugs at all since the Froyo upgrade. If these were OS issues then everyone should encounter them. Rather, I suspect that we are seeing app issues where the app is not playing with Froyo properly.

So here's an odd one: I got this "My Verizon" app to check your phone usage etc. Every time I launch it I get a message saying "Your mobile number could not be validated" on the splash screen, but the next relaunch of the app and it works fine.

I've had the same problem with 2.1 so I doubt it is a problem with Froyo. Maybe their last app update is the cause.

my initial annoyances:

-screen flipping ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE!
-some aspects seem to be slower than before
-sms threads still super slow
-battery life may have gotten a bit worse

I did a manual install last night and the phone works fine. Didn't wipe any apps and all the apps work and before.

Guys even though this is the OTA the flash version is still beta. The full version of flash is done and I have no idea why they didn't include it in this update. The only phone running it is the Nexus One (Google's baby lol). However the great news is that you can download it and put it on your DINC as I did. It will simply upgrade your current Adobe Flash. If you try to uninstall it will only let you uninstall the update not the beta default that was put on by the OTA Download it from your phone at this link. MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service. Again this is the FINAL OFFICIAL FLASH FOR ANDROID !!version 10.1.92.8 12.52 MB. Let me know how you guys make out.
ok so i tried this and i cant figure it out. keeps takin me in circles. do i need to sign up, is that it?

Open Browser > Menu > More > Settings. Scroll down until you see "Enable Plugins," and check either "Always On," or "On Demand." That should do the trick.
odd cuz mine was on automatically.

Overall I like the update. All I can say is its about time. I've been using 2.2 since I purchased my droid2. It is a definite improvement from 2.1.

For me the thing that I find funny is that with each of these OS updates, I've had to install them myself, the OTA doesn't arrive to me within the first couple of days I end up adding it myself. I had to do the same thing with 2.1 on the Incredible too.

I think overall it is the little things that I appreciate. Probably one of my favorite additions with 2.2 is the phone finally has a droid eye at start up.

Ok I know I read this in one of the post buy it probably lost by now...is anybody else's phone taking way too long to charge? My takes over 6 hrs! Something is not right...i can't be the only one...any body found what's causing that? Please help

Received the OTA 2.2 early today. It is faster you know opening apps moving screen to screen, just overall faster.
BIG complaint! Apps keep opening in the background on their own, kill them and boom right back. Skype Mobile will not stay down. THAT?S GOT TO STOP! If I want a app opened and running let me do it, but don?t jam them down my throat. HELLO they killing by battery!
Can?t wait to take the 720p video cam for a spin. I like using Handcent for text but it seems a little wonky now too. Sure many apps will need a update soon as more peps can use and report problems. That is always with updates on anything.
But all the apps that keep starting on their own has got to STOP. HTC/VZW may put them on my phone but don?t keep starting them, I so will be moving back to RIM or worst going to iPhone.

Incredible now running OTA 2.2, YES!

Yeah, the bloatware-zombie thing is obnoxious -- but be warned that even task killers that SAY they are Froyo compatible actually aren't. I'd say don't stress about the crap unless your battery actually takes a hit. If it does, you can remove the crap by rooting (as soon as a root exploit is available for this build, which won't be long).

I have been waiting patiently for froyo... googling info etc all week.. .so I came across a blog today that suggested changing the date on your phone to trigger the download process.. and it worked!! For those of you still waiting... here is what I did.. .went into settings.. changed the date to Sept 5th.. then went into check for a new system upgrade and froyo was there and is now downloading! FINALLY!!!

Wow -- that just seems so suspect that I never would have believed it.

Okay, hold outs -- it's experiment time! (Not that I really care, I just find that fascinating).
