Froyo OTA: First Impressions

if i pause the music player and do something else when I come back the player loses track of where it was and restarts the song. Not sure if this is happening for anyone else but it is really irritating

I noticed this when using the ACast player also. It really is irritating, particularly with a podcast.

One thing I have noticed, and perhaps others will have seen the same thing...

The screen seems to be dimmer on Auto Adjust for brightness. Not a big deal, but I was wondering if others are seeing the same thing.

/conspiracy Or.... did the update secretly change my screen from AMOLED to SLCD? /conspiracy

HA! That's how they extended battery life.

My sdcard drive issue seems to be a conflict on my machine, but basically Computer Management shows the sdcard, just not my computer so I can just open it from there.

On a side note to all:

TO DISABLE THE CDROM ISO FROM LAUNCHING ALL THE TIME, RUN COMMAND THIS IN RECOVERY:
Code:
adb shell
rm /system/etc/CDROM.ISO

DISASTER --- installed and stuck in start up loop --- II

Having to replace phone.

will cost me 10 hours of time to get it back to its highly customized set up again (apps., driving, a ton of settings on the apps).

So this cost me $1000+

Wait, what? Run this command from recovery? Not from an adb shell? No need to root?

EDIT: I see -- you just copied this from somewhere. This is only available if you are rooted (i.e, unrevoked forever before updating), and yes, it has to be run in adb (I didn't think there was a way to run a command in recovery! confused me...).

I'm having the problem with apps re-starting all the time too. Used to have about 250+ MB free after a reboot & killing all tasks. Now I get about 180 MB. After a few minutes, I kill tasks & I am down to 130 MB. If I repeatedly kill tasks, I can get it back to 160 MB. Put the phone on the charger overnite & woke up to 84 MB after killing tasks! WTF!?

Hate the bloatware & the fact that we cannot remove it.

Does seem a little faster as a whole. Have to play with it some more.

This phone is not a BB. The amount of available RAM is totally irrelevant to system performance unless you run out -- but Android is smarter than Windows that way, so you won't run out unless you try. So do not stress about how much available memory you have -- it doesn't matter.

(Now, a background program eating up cycles or chewing up the battery, that's another matter -- but pure MB's available does not).

Is anyone else getting the white background screen with green HTC letters followed by a loading screen and REALLY SLOW reload of the home page when backing out of apps?

You have a crashing widget. Start removing them to see what the offender is.

And you are not using a backup program because...

Even paying for one is only a couple bucks.

A couple of people have mentioned being able to view MMS without the slideshow. If I get a MMS with text attached (not a title), it still goes into slideshow mode. Is there a setting I'm missing to stop this?

I think the first mention I saw of this was that it still didn't allow MMS without going into a slideshow. (Don't know what this is about, but I do recall seeing someone say they with it was fixed.)

Not sure

I haven't ran the code yet, but did try to go into recovery, unfortunately my recovery cannot be recognized (this also happened to me prior to the manual ota froyo file).

If I can figure out a way to just rename the cdrom.iso file from within Froyo I think that will work, but Astro tells me insufficient privs. Is there another way to access system folder on the internal memory other than root?

There is one of those type numbers in the dialer, use password feature setting things that does this as well. Can't quickly find it right off hand, but it has the ability to turn of the CDrom feature which does the same thing.

If you are rooted, you can do the above command without adb, though I would move it to a storage directory instead of removing it.

Yeah, I edited the post -- it is most definitely an adb command and requires root.

I'm fascinated by your dialer solution though, haven't seen that. If you get a chance to lay your hands on that info, I'd appreciate a pm. Thanks!

Prior to Froyo, I'd plug in the dinc, tell the dinc to disk drive, and boom, two drives (one for phone, one for sdcard). Now only the phone drive shows up and I get prompted for V Cast install to "Transfer Media".

This is not good, I hate installing overhead software to do normal file transfer.

Anyone else having this happen?
I'm curious; does this only happens in Windows 7? I connect my phone to my Macbook most of the times, but last night I connect it to my PC (Windows XP) and I get 3 drives, but I don't get any pop ups. BTW, I already have the phone setup to mount as a drive by default.

Got my update the day after the "launch". Installation went seamlessly. I'm impressed with some of the new features (Google Voice Search is cool!). But the update didn't get rid of some minor things in the old software. 1) My home screen will flip to one of the side screen randomly. 2) On the Power Off screen - my Silent Mode is toggled the wrong way (says it's on when it's off and vice versa). 3) Randomly the phone will select a box (just turn it green) on a given screen. Again small things, but I'm wondering if they ring a bell with anyone? Overall, I love my Dinc; wouldn't trade it for anything!

Guys even though this is the OTA the flash version is still beta. The full version of flash is done and I have no idea why they didn't include it in this update. The only phone running it is the Nexus One (Google's baby lol). However the great news is that you can download it and put it on your DINC as I did. It will simply upgrade your current Adobe Flash. If you try to uninstall it will only let you uninstall the update not the beta default that was put on by the OTA Download it from your phone at this link. MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service. Again this is the FINAL OFFICIAL FLASH FOR ANDROID !!version 10.1.92.8 12.52 MB. Let me know how you guys make out.
has anyone else tried this besides Revolutionary?
