Froyo OTA: First Impressions

absolute frustration

I updated my dInc using the link teslatech provided (big ups to him) and my phone has been unforgivingly laggy regardless of what I'm doing be it scrolling through applications, opening applications or typing out a text message. I tried a battery pull, but that didnt work. At times, scrolling through my screens becomes a chore. Anyone have any advice? Phone was swimmingly fast before the jump to froyo but now I'm down in the dumps. Thanks!

And if I've missed other posts describing this same issue, woops.

Just received it.

I was just about to do the manual set up when at 1:00 it appeared on my screen, I am in a meeting now but cannot wait to play and see what is under the hood.

I love the new start up.

did the manual update and so far so good, havent found an app that doesnt work yet, everything seems faster, browser is good. Only thing i did notice is my signal seems to have gotten worse. In my office at work i usually have 1 bar due to my location in the buidling but now i show no bars and my streaming music cuts off more often. Im gonna keep an eye on it but everything else is great.

I get a lag between the Droid Eye boot up anime and the Sense UI -- anyone else seeing that?

Yes I saw this too. Mine locked up and did some weird stuff on the first boot up. After rebooting again it went much smoother, but there was still a noticeable lag between the eye and Sense. Everything else runs smooth though. Kinda sad we don't get the 3D Photo Gallery, that seemed kinda cool.

BTW, I did the manual install with the update.zip file.

I did the RUU update on my new Incredible a couple of nights ago. The difference in speed is quite noticeable, much faster and smoother now. So far, no problems at all - all the apps work great. Very pleased so far, I moved to the Incredible from an iPhone 4 (which I was extremely disappointed with) and NO regrets at all.

OTA worked well...

Only issues were that it changed all my notifications and ring tones...

Swype had to be reinstalled and every now and then while set on auto brightness, the screen will dim and not return to bright unless I turn off screen and turn it back on...

Everything else (so far) seems fine...

Lego!

Why hasn't the launcher dock changed in Froyo?

I did the manual update a little while ago, but the feature I was awaiting the most hasn't showed up - the launcher dock on the home screen remains what it was.

Isn't Froyo supposed to make the Apps, Call and Internet icons show up at the bottom of the screen similar to ADW.Launcher?

How do I get that?

I feel the same exact way. Some things are fine, but everything else seems like .5 second slower. Email sometimes laggs, a couple things like youtube froze up for a second, but the worst by far in the dang browser. I've been playing with it for about 30 minutes, and I'm already annoyed. The pages load in about the same speed, but zooming is wierd sometimes, and scrolling is terrible now. If you don't touch the screen for a second and touch it again, it's like it doesn't want to move. Alot of times it wont move at all when its loading up. This doesn't happen with the google website, but it happens with pretty much everything else, so I'm almost certain the new Flash it ruining it. Loading up all the ads is slowing it down. I want to find a way to keep the flashlight app, and just go back to 2.1, because this is ridiculous.

Is this significantly different than the 8/1 leak? Some day I'll go back to stock, run unrevoked forever and install this update. Any reason to do this sooner rather than later?

So here's an odd one: I got this "My Verizon" app to check your phone usage etc. Every time I launch it I get a message saying "Your mobile number could not be validated" on the splash screen, but the next relaunch of the app and it works fine.

This is no big deal by any means and certainly not hugely significant, but I just wondered if other folks noticed the same thing.
I used to get that error even with Android 2.1, so it has nothing to do with Froyo but with Verizon's crappy app.

I just manually upgraded to froyo on my DInc, and I've been getting an error message and force close. It says

"Sorry! The application HTC-IME Mod (process jonasl.ime) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force Close."

Does anyone know what this is about and how to fix this error? Thanks in advance.

It occurs when I try to do anything that requires a keyboard. I had a custom keyboard on it with a "logo" in the space bar. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Does the OTA update have the 3D Photo Gallery? I was under the impression that the update.zip was exactly the same. Or are you saying that all HTC Droid Incredible owners aren't getting the 3D Photo Gallery?

Not sure if this is related, but I noticed that after the manual update there's an app called HTC IME Test loaded on my phone. Not sure what it does/is and its not executable. Even wondering if it is something that I can delete after the install.

so i tested out flash since the OTA. Is there a way to have flash animations play automatically? I went to a site with flash and I had to click on the little green triangle to get it to play.

I am seeing zero speed issues. In fact it is a bit faster across the board.
I'm 99% there with you. Everything except the browser seems to be working the same or slightly faster. However, I did a "Flash test" with espn.com and I noticed a lot of lag when scrolling and zooming even after the page was fully loaded. :(

Anyone seeing issues charging? Mine seems to be charging really slowly. Took forever to get to 95%, and then the charging indicator went away. Unplugged and replugged it and it seems to have continued charging.
