FroYo Over The Air Update. Who Has It So Far? Check In Please

To update.. or not to update.

So was the update really pulled or just a malicious rumor? I just downloaded the update from the Samsung site, just in case I ever decide to manually update. All the comments sound like the update is hit or miss.. the miss being not worth it. I'm so confused about this update.. I guess I'm going to backup my phone. This is totally lame. :-\

Never got the update...frankly I'm glad after all the problems I've heard it cause.

Does anyone know if the Epic gained tv out capability with Froyo?

My manual update using Windows went fine. Phone seems good so far. I like all the lil tweaks they made. Feels so fresh & so clean clean

update worked fine for me. no issues so far. although the first hour was rough with it but now it is smooth sailing.

I have it! I'm in Georgia and fairly new to Android. I received it for about 2 days ago. Now after reading some of the posts about Froyo and checking my 'settings' and and 'about phone' tab, I am now understanding that's what I got when I was prompted to update. Now it is all making sense why I lost some apps with the new push i.e Killer App which I re-downloaded. More importantly I lost my voice data app for voice synthesis and cannot seem to get it back which I posted about earlier today. On the up side some apps look and appear to function better or have a few more features to them. I now also have SKYPE and downloaded that immediately when I realized I could. Just got back from England and did not have it prior to going wish I did.
One other thing, I am not sure if my 4G is finally working. I purchased the phone in November that feature has not worked to date; part of the reason I bought it in the first place.

Sprint says

Here's what's posted on Sprint's FROYO upgrade instructions:

Check the version on your phone

To find the software version on your Samsung Epic? 4G a Galaxy S? phone:

Go to the Home screen
Tap Menu > Settings > About phone
The software version will be listed under Build number and Baseband version

Update your software

To update your Samsung Epic 4G over the air:

Go to the Home screen
Tap Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates > Update Android
Your phone will automatically download and install any available updates; you may need to power your phone off and back on to complete the software upgrade

My understanding is that it is only available through Kies at this time... I have updated, there is no BT Dialer only Google Voice which works however, the function of pressing your earpiece "Voice Dial" button does nothing.

Samsung Captivate
Froyo 2.2 via Kies

I just got off the phone with sprint. According to them, there is currently no way to update your eclair to "sprint approved" froyo.

Never got it in Manhattan, NY. Bought my phone 1st day out. I called Samsung & Sprint; they said basically the same thing: "due many customers calling in to Customer Care, the update will not be sent OTA to any other phones & the manual update will be taken down from their site". Most posts I've seen say their phone has had some kind of problem after the update. As long as we've waited so far, it might be wise to wait a little longer. I'm a total newb so I'm real leary about doing a manual update cause I'll be the guy who messes it up. I enjoy what I can do with my phone now & I would hate to mess that up cause of impatience.

:)

I went ahead and manually updated. The link on samsungs site was still downloadable earlier today. I made a list of all my apps.. Deleted a few I didn't care for. Then I backed up my contacts onto my on my pc. Installed the update. It was buggy for sure. Immediately reformatted my sd card. moved contacts and as many apps as I could to my sd card. Did a factory reset on my phone. Then voila, good as new, better even. I lost all my apps after my factory reset, but whatever I don't mind downloading the ones I liked again. My pictures were already gone bc I accidentally unplugged my phone from my pc last week while transferring some files. Overall I am very pleased that I went ahead and updated. The white/grey checkerboxes in pinch to zoom are seriously nothing to complain about.. The sms is totally dumb visually but the pros outweigh it. So far of the apps ive redownloaded, I noticed that jetvd is no longer in the market.. This is my favorite app, hopefully I can have it bluetoothed from my friends phone.

I totally new to android, updates, and even to smart phones and I did all of this myself successfully in about 20 mins. I suggest to anyone who's afraid to read through the forums and make a notepad of fixes and suggestions bc that's what got me through this update and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Thanks to android central!

not going to touch a manual update when they haven't got sense enough to release something that had to be pulled back two days later.

is a proper update ever going to be released? it's really looking like those of us who bought the Epic are getting the short end of the stick.
