Froyo RUU News, Reviews, Findings, Q&A.

if its just to get the 2.2 loaded, you dont need to root.

are you rooting just so you can run S-off and get superuser access and have that added goodness?

i'd bet my bottom dollar the VZW version updates the radio.

so if they do update the radio then what? we are stuck with this RUU because we cannot update OTA?

I cant get this to work for the life of me. It says to disable the lock screen and turn off hibernation mode, how do I do that? I didnt know you could disable the lock screen? Help?

no.
if their version doesnt have this same radio (i.e has the old radio) and you go ahead and run this update, then youre stuck.
if their version does have this same radio update (id be shocked if it didnt) then you'll be fine, and wont have too much trouble reverting back to 2.1, OTA'ing etc.

Re: This might be it? Official OTA??

I just rooted yesterday with unrevoked3 and forever. I DID NOT update the radio. If I run this update from the original post would that take the place of flashing a radio update? If I could update the radio this way Is rather do that.....less risky

my buddy at VZW just emailed me. he's checking the version numbers etc on this leak, but it "looks like" this is the VZW version
or you could just wait til tomorrow.
oh joy, oh happy day!!

When I plug it in I get the error that says its not connected via USB.

sounds silly but..try the cable in a differnet USB port. my laptop had a dodgy port that i now steer clear of.

the exact order i did it in was:

download update file to PC.
run mybackup, backing apps and data up to SD card.
run exe file.
when it runs, it asks you to connect the phone (making sure theres 30% battery), and disable sleep etc on pc.
i connected phone, hit next, and followed the prompts.
it took about 7minutes tops.

booted up. grabbed mybackup from the market.
opened mybackup, hit restore, found backup file, applied, et voila.

nary a single problem

From what I understand, this release "may" fix some of the vulnerabilities that were used to get root. I would like to to partake of some rooted goodness at some point (not much time to play during the summer), so I want to root the device to turn S-Off, so I have the option.

BBKIKS>> "S-off" is, essentially, a setting in the phone that allows you to run un-signed code that updates the ROMs in the phone. With S-off set, you can overwrite the OTA update with something else. With S-on, your can only overwrite with "signed" code (meaning: from verizon) and you're hosed.

Yeah thats what I was curious about  , lol .Thats how they did the D2. I think one was leaked followed soon by actual pushed version out by vzw

so if a non-rooted user was able to apply this update - then the file is indeed signed, meaning its been approved by Verizon??
if so, can we deduce that this is indeed what will be firing across the wazes from tomorrow?

yeah i just put it on the missus' DInc while she was out at the store (shhhhh dont tell her, she'll never know) and it is running perfectly.
i'm assuming the fact that it has the verizon goodies on there (hotspot, navigator etc) means it is the version theyr pushing..

if for whatever reason this craps my girlfriends phone, and she comes on here, you NEVER saw me..

Couldn't wait, doing it on my second work machine now. i will let you know how it is.

Update:
For some reason my machine is not seeing it so the update keeps failing / or not kicking off. This is windows 7. Any one else seen this?
Update 2: Rebooted and still nothing, and didn't work on either VMs that i have. will try tonight when i get home. UGH!!
