Froyo, texts, and the @ symbol

(To Mods: If this isn't where this goes, apologies.)

So I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but I was recently altered by a friend that when I send long texts (i.e. over 160 characters, which then get split into multiple messages), they are separated by a text containing just the @ symbol a whole bunch of times.

Also, in a similar vein, I often get the 'Text message not sent' error, despite the text being sent (and replied to).

Finally, occasionally people will send texts or call, and I just never get them. I'm figuring this is a network issue, but the above two problems as well, I figured I'd ask.

Some useful numbers:

- Handcent SMS 3.9.2
- Froyo 2.2.1
- Running EB01
- Kernel version 2.6.32.9
- not Voodoo'd

Anyone have any of these problems? I've noticed that it doesn't happen when the recipient is running Froyo as well. Or at least the @ thing doesn't.

Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central!

The @@@ issue is a known issue for Handcent - see this link for a possible fix..

There have been known issues with calls going to voicemail and the phone not ringing.. this continues for me.. and I am on CommROM 2.1 with ED04 radio..

This issue may (or may not) be related to the network or the phone.. I have yet to find a 'fix' for that problem..

Okay, thanks guys. I actually found another way to do it, since for some reason I never got that someone responded to this, despite me asking to subscribe daily, but whatever. Called the Verizon guys after resetting to stock, and the advanced tech support guy (knew more or less what he was talking about) told me about *228. Apparently, if you dial that and select option two, it reconfigures your network somethings, and viola, it worked. No idea if that will work when I move back to froyo, but I'll see.

Try dumping the ED04 radio and see if that helps with your missed calls. It did for me. Currently running EC09 but ED01 stopped the miss call issue too.

I have dealt with this issue for the past few weeks and finally have figured out a solution:

In your handscent SMS settings, make sure to make sure the send settings do NOT convert your text to mms,. I am pretty sure this is what causes it. Good luck!

Hi,

I have CommRom 1.2 + ED01 installed with the "stock" SMS program that devs included in there (the one that is completely black and gray), and am not using any other program like Handcent to send messages.

However, I've had this issue as well with the "@" symbol for some time when sending messages that span multiple texts. All of the solutions I've seen posted on this site typically related to Handcent and not the SMS program included in CommRom.

Any theories? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

(PS - Also, I can't remember for the life of me whether I did this in CommRom or when I had SC but I think there was some patch that was floating around which allowed you to disable automatic conversation of an SMS to MMS if the text was too long in CommRom/SC, i.e. I patched it so that it stopped converting my long texts to MMS. May be irrelevant to the issue above, but thought I should mention.)

This is that patch you mentioned. It was from SC, but may work with Comm ROM.

^^^YAY THANK YOU SO MUCH Landshark :)

Even though I use handscent SMS and can fix the problem myself, it is good to have just in case I never want to use handscent or other third party programs, <3

Thank you; yes currently the messaging program I am using included in CommRom 1.2 is not converting long SMS to MMS (which is the way I prefer).

However, still having the "@" symbol issue when the message is being (automatically) split across multiple text messages. Again, not using Handcent. Any ideas on this? :\

Alternatively, is there a messaging program file that I can flash to replace what I have where i) people are not having issues with the "@" symbol, and ii) it automatically splits up long SMS without converting to MMS? Perhaps the installed program files are corrupt somehow.

Thanks again for everyone's time in advance.
