Flicker and choppiness are going away in next release. Found out its a driver bug and gone when switching to a res lower than 1280x720. I will try to fix it for that res but at least it doesnt happen on any of these:
800x600
720x576
720x480
640x480

Ok that's good news and I'm I reading your other post on xda correctly does the apk that's posted in this forum work on any kernel?

Last week, Shinzul and crew got HDMI mirroring working in CyanogenMod 7, generally regarded as the king of vanilla Android-based ROMs. Then just a few days ago, they got it working on AOSP straight from the video drivers at an astonishing rate of 80+ frames per second! Shinzul says in another tweet that it "won't need to run that fast [when it's released] because [they] want it to be smoothly mirroring the panel," but knowing that it can be done is nothing short of amazing.

There's no word on when the new functionality will make its public debut in a CM7 nightly, but what's another day/week/month of living without HDMI mirroring?

Update: Video teaser now available below. YouTube - Full HDMI Mirroring on cm7 - HTC Evo 4G

Thanks for the update danduhman. Its always a good day for the general Evo community when developers reach a breakthrough in a much needed project like HDMI mirroring. Here on AndroidCentral, we saw the youtube demo of Shinzul's progress and we read "good and evo"s article that you pasted above. I dont think anybody was shocked to learn that they did it, we had no doubt.

anybody know if they are the real deal??

They are as real as Toastcfh's kernels and the team's 4G project. Everybody knows they are capable and smart, and you do too.

Having said that, this thread is not about Teamwin's HDMwIn project. Nor it is about whether Teamwin guys are the real deal or not. It is about FullHDMI's development, announcements and beta tracking. For matters other than the ones I just mentioned please be kind and start a new thread, and everybody will gladly chime in with their opinions.

TeamWin have mirroring working, it is their own code, their own drivers and nobody questioned whether they could pull it off danduhman.

  • Man Wow!!!!! thanks for all the hard work

Has anyone tested this with an HDMI to DVI adapter?

I loaded the apk, but not the kernel (running netarchy-toastmod-4.3.2-cfs-nosbc-havs-less-universal-signed)

The app works in software mode on my Samsung 40", some clipping, but works (pretty awesome by the way).

When I tried it with an external monitor that I have hooked up to a satellite receiver via an HDMI to DVI adapter, I would not get any picture. Tried different picture settings on the monitor, but no dice.

Is there some signal that is not being passed to allow this via the HDMI out on the EVO?

Would like to get this working as it would really make this useful when on the road.

This app will work with any setup that the stock HDMI will work with

I have used this on a monitor with a DVI to HDMI adapter several times. This video was done using the app with these cables on a DVI monitor. YouTube - Playing Super Punch Out over HDMI, Orrebmas

I use my Evo HDMI cable, go to a coupler, and then go to an HDMI to DVI adapter. Only downside was I would lose the audio. But Orrebmas has fixed that because now you can port the audio out of the other options on the phone.

What type of monitor are you using? Monitors won't show anything if the resolution is not supported. Also, I have a Sanyo monitor I tried that wouldn't work no matter what I did, but I have tried it on 2 HP monitors, and 1 projector with a DVI port, and all worked flawlessly.

The new beta will (should) work on any monitor. One of the new features of the next release is the ability to set one of the standard resolutions 640x480, 800x600, 720x576, and 720x480. These resolutions are now fully supported with their standard timings, which means that compatibility will not be an issue.
This standard resolution setting is different than the previous "custom res". Previously the custom resolution would not change the main screen resolution but instead allow you to shrink the area where the frames are drawn. It was introduced to get rid of clippings because of certain TV settings (which you figured out a while back Brad :)).

I do not have a HDMI-DVI adapter but I am able to change resolutions on my TV to any of those listed without problems. This new standard res option comes with a welcome enhancement: No flicker what-so-ever using these resolutions in any app, map or game.

Thank you for the response bradleyw801, orrebmas.

I will try the new beta when it is out.

It might be the resolution issue, since it is a PC monitor that is 4:3.

I will test on another monitor that is 16:9 @ 1024x768 in the mean time.

Thanks again.

Quick question (came over here after XDA posts began disappearing).

You've updated the first post, but the filename is still the same it has been before you posted the changes. Is this the newer beta file?

It's a little bit confusing if you are just jumping in. Orrebmas has an updated app, that he, and he alone is currently testing. He has confirmed all of the features he has listed in the OP, and mentioned in this thread.

But, the version with all of these features is not packaged into an APK yet. For this reason, again, no one but Orrebmas is currently testing this.

There is no specific time line, but Orrebmas works quick. As soon as he can get all of the features in that he wanted to, he will package it, and release it to all of us right here on Android Central.

Stay tuned to this thread. The Mod here is really cool, and is supportive. It's easier to follow here, and so far people have kept this thread pretty clean.

Thanks, I was following for a while, on XDA, and then there were no more updates until the beta came out. The confusion comes from updates in the OP regarding features that are not in the attached file.

As with all these threads, there's too much to read to catch up, so thanks for responding.

I'm not sure if you have talked with Net or Toast but a flashable kernel patch would be ideal for obvious reasons, even if it was restricted to Net's 4.3.2 at first. In short, I guess I'm throwing in a vote for Net's 4.3.2 for the new kernel base.

+1 on this choice of kernels. This is just the finest I've ever used.

On a personal note, we are with you here orrebmas hanging on your every response and development. I don't know or care what is happening on XDA but it sure is a PITA seeing the thread deleted. I just hope we can continue to ride your wave through the conclusion of the beta. To me this is as exciting a development since the phone was released.
