G4 AOTS finally reviewed the Evo.. it's not good folks..

Like it's been mentioned before, faulting the EVO for 4G not being everywhere is dumb when they still praise the **** out of the iPhone, though ATT's 3G coverage isn't the greatest either.

Exactly, how many dropped calls have I had with my EVO.....0!

I was excited for when G4 would finally do a review of the phone but I hate when Chris Hardwick reviews anything. All of his reviews are very "surfacy" if I had to make up a word...
It really seems like he takes the item, plays with it for 5 minutes, and decides it's enough time to make up some BS about it.
I haven't seen this review yet though, and honestly I could understand them for dinging the phone for the terrible 4g coverage. Every time I hear the sprint commercial "What would YOU do with the first 4g phone?" All I can think of is "um, not get 4g coverage with it, that's what I'd do!"
And my area HAS 4g coverage. My house has excellent 4g coverage (when I had clear) and my phone picks up one bar if I'm lucky. It's annoying, and it deserves at least 1 less star/seal/roadhouse/whatever for it.

I love that show but I would never really trust their phone or gadget reviews of any kind. It's just an entertainment show to me.

Seemed more like a Sprint review/bash than a review of the Evo. I agree that we shouldn't be paying the xtra 10 a month until we actually have 4g coverage but most people knew that going in. Not a good review at all...

I'd say that the EVO would get 4 out of 5 stars just for the design of having the camera lens flush to the bezel which contacts the table when the phone is laid down with the screen up (as most people I know are prone to do). The lens should have been recessed, even one millimeter would have been enough.

Why does everyone miss the fact that the extra 10 bucks a month lifts the 5 gig data cap?
Lets see. I pay Sprint 10 bucks for 50 gig a month, or I could pay at&t $25 25 times($625) for the same amount of data usage...which you could pull off tethering.

Most people miss it because well... it doesn't exist The Everything data plans do not carry a 5gig cap at all. The 5 gig cap applies only to non-phone cellular devices. There never was a cap on phone data usage with the 'everything' plans, but the wording was very odd some many people believe there was.

Tethering and mobile hot spot were never included in the plans.. it's allowed/disallowed on a phone by phone basis.

Ahh I was only thinking about ON network, when you're using Sprint.. no way a carrier is going to allow you to use unlimited on another carriers network. I haven't read the articles above, but I'm fairly sure that the Evo STILL has a limit when off network.


EDIT: I meant to say even NON-Evo has no limit on the "Everything" Plans... not refering to specific broadband plans or ala-carte. The terms for example for a standard Everything plan includes the following terms:

Data Usage Limitation (Mobile Broadband Cards, USB Modems, Embedded Modems and Phone-As-Modem):The amount of data transmitted over our network is measured in kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB). Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred; and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if usage either exceeds (a.) 5GB/month in total, unless specified otherwise or (b.) 300MB/month while off-network roaming. 1024KB equal 1MB. 1024MB equal 1GB.

When asked several times in interviews, posts and blogs, sprint has confirmed that the 5g does not apply to PHONE USAGE (unless being used to tether). So 'most' people have no effective limit. If you tether and they catch you then you are subject to the 5meg limit, however they stated somewhere that it's a rolling 3 month average, so one month overage isn't going to get you in trouble.

As long as you like it, I wouldn't worry about their review. I love my Evo. And it may be that they just don't like the network. Who knows. Seems as though they rate Verizon phones better. Possibly they just get better coverage from Verizon in their area or maybe Verizon is a sponsor of theirs. Who knows. Regardless... like i said... I LOVE THE EVO

Sure, the EVO deserved at least a 4/5, regardless of 4G coverage, but who cares? If you like your phone, just enjoy it. Besides, this review is so late that most people who cared have already read the countless other more positive reviews all over the internet. The iPhone is REALLY starting to have some true competition for what seems like the first time with the newest Android smartphones (Evo, Droid, Galaxy S.) Non-tech savvy people are actually starting to recognize some of these devices like they recognize the iPhone.

Wow.. didn't imagine there was this much drama over AOTS cast members and policies...

Yes I love my phone.. no I don't think their reviews are biased any more than anyone elses, but I did think they phoned this one in, and wanted to call them out on it.

In an interesting turn of events... the review link from Gadget Pron... it's GONE The Motorola and Iphone are still there so I'm thinking it got pulled.

In other odd news.. today's episode they had a small infomercial/feature "Our Evo best App Picks" or something, where they now seem to claim to love the Evo for all it can do. Ohh and I do I see they've changed (or was it there all along?) their "G4" Logo to now say "4G powered by sprint". (Technology Reviews, Gadget Reviews - G4tv.com notice the top left )

Heh I think perhaps we'll be seeing a more thorough review of the Evo soon.. someone must not have remembered Sprint is a sponsor.

Oh well still love the Evo, just wish I could convert a few more Iphone-a-holics I know.

Y and how is the EVO not at the top of that 3 phone review ??.........by them not rating this a 5 star review all the way means then u should stick 2 flip phones reviews!!......... The battery is the worst thing about the EVO ( 4 stars at least ) ...........

... the EVO has at least 2 important feature over all them phones and any new phone now or later in the year!!!.......... the Evo has front face camera & HDMI port over # 4 htc incredible...... and (4G) plus HDMI port plus data plan plus 8mp camera and 4.3inch screen over the # 3 ihpne (no 4G) ...........and 4G and the data plan to match over the # 2 droid x......... they need to cut the front running favoritism bullshi*t and be honest ......and or cut down on their mid day liquor intake lol !
