One question though...since you can't send/receive data while you're talking on the phone with Verizon, does it wait until hang up to send the text message?

No. Text uses the same network connection as the phone and text messages will get pushed through. Some HTC phones can talk, text, and recieve/send data on 3G. All 4G phones can do it while on a 4G network.

I just tried that and your right. It does make the OS seem faster. Anyone else try this?
How do you do it? I just went through the settings and couldn't find anything to disable the animation.

Any way to display list of ALL text messages received?
Normally shows last text in current 'conversation' - if pressed, shows all texts in THAT conv.

I dont have the phone right now. But go into settings>developer settings>animations>select none on both.
If memory serves me right.
And make sure u turn off live wallpaper
tip/question here. If you long press on a text convo, it selects that convo. You can then click other convos and erase multiple convos at once. This also works in pictures. Does anyone know if this is possible in another way selecting multiple texts within the convos themselves?
binge answered all your questions. just want to note that you can be on the phone and use data at the same if you are on Wi-Fi as well.

I had a question for some of you guys who turned off transitions and animations in ICS. Do you feel that it makes the OS faster or does it just seem that way because you do not have animations when clicking on things?
