Galaxy Note 10.1 2014: 4.4.2 must not be far away

Re: The Note 10.1 2014 4.4.2 must not be far away

Wonder if GOOGLE is just making it so difficult that using SD storage that people will migrate to the "cloud"... Which they seem to be pushing....

Not sure if "cloud" is safe and where I want my data to be.....Think about Target credit card information theft.... How secure is the cloud?...

I've heard a variety of conspiracy theories involving google doing this to make money. Don't know if that's correct. So, I won't speculate as to underlying motivation, but it does seem fairly clear Google would like to do away with SD cards, whether for valid reasons or otherwise, and keeps adding hoops to jump through. On Monday you can't install apps to cards. On Tuesday, your 3rd party apps can't modify files on the card for "security reasons." (I wonder why my 3rd party app can modify files on the phone and not the card?) Cards also evidently stink because they corrupt when phone cameras record pix and vids?(To date, hasn't happened to me, but it's a complaint I've see. Gee, they work fine when my actual camera records to them. Why can't we get that to work more reliably on the phones? Or is it just that no one bothers to care and is just as happy if cards become viewed as a negative?

The restrictions and hurdles keep appearing. All I can say is that if this stuff leads to death of the SD card slot, maybe at that point the Samsung user base should migrate to Apple to make a point. ;)

Has anyone with the wifi edition gotten the new operating system yet? I keep checking and nothing has happened!

Getting really frustrated with no 4.4. It's ridiculous

Sent from my SCH-I545 using AC Forums mobile app

We aren't the only ones that don't have it. The VZW S4 doesn't, either, even though it's on ALL other carriers already. No excuse for us not to have it since there's no carrier involved.

This is my thinking. Make android phones like their Nexus line. :(

I don't think the SD card changes are done to push people to the cloud. I think that the removable SD card presents a significant security challenge and they're doing what they can to close the holes.

If they made tablets with 64gb/128gb variants, this would pretty much eliminate the need for SD cards. 16GB is not enough for anything now with apps getting into the GB size range. My xoom has 32GB and that's full and a 64GB card with about 3GB left. I have tons of movies and work files on my tablet and cloud is not an option since I spend a lot of time on planes.

For a lot of people, maybe, even probably. For media junkies like me, there will never be enough internal storage for the foreseeable future, and it won't be at a reasonable cost for the space I'd want, and it's not as easy to back up. Let me know when there is 256gb internal storage for an extra $50 and you can back it up over wi-fi in 30 minutes. ;) Then, I might be interested. But in any conversation based on current reality, give me space and I will find a way to use it.

Is "media junkie" the new term for "couch potato?"

How about OTG (USB)storage.... Can tablet run application that are on "memory sticks" (jump drives or what ever the popular name is for them today)..

I know having data and apps on a umbilical form memory stick to tab is not best solution and may be awkward buut it may offer some sort of solution...

I use a Meenova card reader with my Moto X, which has no SD card slot. It's really tiny and unobtrusive. Except when you are charging, of course. I normally wouldn't buy a device with no SD card slot, but I needed a cheap cell plan and went with Republic Wireless, and the Moto X 16GB was the only choice at the time. And it made me angry that they charge $50 extra to go up to 32GB, when I had a perfectly good $45 64GB card from my last phone. LOL I'm happy with the 16GB Note 10.1 2014 that I have, because I have a card for it.

Good one, but actually quite the opposite. The reason we media junkies want all this stuff on our cards is because we're always moving around and want the stuff to come with us on our portable devices! :) So there!

OTG is fine for unusual and big events, but I can't carry a S4 in my pocket with both an adapter and a memory stick in my pocket. As you allude to, it's just too inconvenient.

Presuming you're not standing, walking or running while watching media then I'll amend my comment to "sit down potato." ;)

Even there---it's my convergence device. Lotsa folks on the treadmill with MP3s and 'phones. ;)

20140415_174942.jpg here's my Moto X with the Meenova card reader attached to a little keychain thingy. It has a 64gb card slid into it from my last phone. Definitely more convenient than an adapter and a flash drive! I think they're $15 shipped.
