Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) Battery life sucks, as does charging

Just keep in mind this on any battery charger combo if you have 8000 mah battery and a 5.3 v charger @ 2 amps it will take 4 hours to charge as that's the charge rate not an issue with tablet or charger just simple math

Well sorry to hear that I got mine Xmas day as bad as I wanted to play I charged to 100% later that day with gps Wifi smart stay auto brightness all the bells and whistles on I first set up tablet with all account email vudu ect. They I watched white house down after all the above I was at 86% after about 3 hours then I ran some spreadsheets and did some emailing for work downloaded all my galaxy perks set all that up then watch rv still yet was only at 65% so two movies email downloading apps updating software I could not kill it turned off overnight as I do with my gs4 when turned on was at 65% just as I left it did dome Excel spreadsheet and ordered inventory took about 40 photos Keep in mind I get a lot of emails for work finally was at 49% decided to watch a TV on tablet as I have a Hopper system with dish watched shark tank sleepy hollow undercover boss 3 more hours and I took off auto brightness while doing this cranked it to 100 finally it was at 18% I got about 14 hours of use till 18% I try to not let it go below 18 as damages battery over long term But when charging that's a whole different monster lol I could have grew a tree for as long as it took to charge it took like 5-6 hours so charge time is long but after looking at charger it's only putting out 5.3v @ 2 amp per hour the battery is 8,100 milliamps 1000 milliamps = 1 amp so every hour your charging 2000 milliamps so it's about right 4 hours puts u at 8000 say 4.5 to reach 8100 milliamp so even though slow it is correct perhaps I will look to find a fast charger @ 2.5 or 3.0 amp per hour

OMG, does this post have even a single period or comma! Not to be the grammar police, but that was really hard to read!

Interesting though...unfortunately, I don't think I get that much battery life.

I can't answer your question, but *every* app gives that warning (built-in ones I mean).

Samsung Push Service handles all the push notifications and updates for ChatOn and any app you get through the Samsung Hub... not sure if disabling it will stop you from receiving the firmware updates... If you want to laugh... look up Samsung Push Service in the Play Store and read the first few pages of user reviews :D

Totally! I was reading those reviews yesterday, really awesome. There was another samsung app I stumbled on with more of the same.

I found that in the application manager, there is a little un-useful "app" that runs nonstop. It's called "samsung push service" and if you disable it, you get like 2x the battery like. Or close to it. All Samsung products after the galaxy s2 have it.

Edit: when I went through and put a black wallpaper, all settings like multi tasking and smart scroll off, disabled a bunch of apps I don't need, dim brightness not auto, and only a few widgets and I get over 15 hours of battery life on my galaxy s4! This is also while leaving Wi-Fi on 24/7, playing big games like dead trigger 2, riptide, and browsing the internet. I use it a ton!

Ok reporting back after trying the above. I turned this off yesterday. Charged to 100% overnight. Turned on at 9am. It is now 8:30pm and I am at 15%. That's close to 12 hours, pretty darn impressive

Thanks for the suggestion!

Your welcome!!! :) glad I can help! I hope you have fun playing around on your tablet!

Soo I turned the tablet back on, and in my notifications, I see a notice for 3 Samsung updates? Thought turning off that push service would prevent that from happening. Also did not get any notice about the play store. And when I go back to my application manager I now do not even see the Samsung push in the list. How would I turn in back on?

If you slide over one more tab after "all" there is a "turned off" tab there you can turn them back on. The push service is basically just for chat on. Its only purpose to alert you of a message the very second it happens. Its unnecessary and drains battery like crazy!!

I would say its definatly a faulty device for anyone with battery only lasting several hours. My wife and me both have one each,
she plays alot of games and browsing she has the auto screen brightness on the highest and gets atleast 1.5 -2days on a charge.
I just have the brightness at about 40% play games for about 1 hour at a time a few times a day watch videos from a usb and streaming lots of browsing and use drawing apps alot also I text and have a fair few phone calls and video calls each day. I have never got less than 2days generally 3days

Not sure if its because we use task manger to kill apps and only have apps enabled that are regularly used.
Also the battery did improve after the first few charges , we always fully charge while its off and then run dead flat for the first 3-4 times

Not sure if for some reason there is a difference between countries as I have never heard of any1 in nz with battery issues

I had my screen brightness turn down to about 20% and ran the battery down to about 15% before recharging it. I then checked my battery usage in the settings menu and found that 75% of my battery drain was due to screen brightness.

My battery charges extremely slow sometimes and fast others. Sometimes it drains while Im reading a book on the kindle app while its charging. Anyway, sometimes it helps to take the charger apart, all 3 pieces, and put them back together. Not sure it always works but after messing with it a few times it usually starts charging quickly again.

I would get a new charger. There may be a pin that is bad.

Re: Battery life sucks, as does charging

I understand and I appreciate all your help and that post. I charged it to 100 percent and played fifa for a bit and browsed the internet. I have my brightness on about 30 percent however after about 1:47:33 off the charger, mostly in stand by, it is already down to 84%. I'd say I've been playing with it for about 35ish minutes.

I'm not sure if my expectations for this thing is unreasonable. This is my first tablet. Though I know plenty of people who have ipads and they their battery lasting time is amazing. I did get it from best buy. My only fear of returning it is if I decide to pick up another one it will have the same issues. I've been reading about bestbuy banning people who return too much. Although, I rarely shop there. First time in two years I got something from bestbuy.

Just to add. Right after I took it off the charger I didn't mess with it for about 45 minutes. And in that 45 minutes of it in stand by mode it dropped 5%. Is that not a red flag?

I have the same problem. I have mine plugged in while playing a game and it still will drain. I seen someone say something about they think it was the update to kit kat.

How come you guys are getting low battery usage for Android OS, on my tablet I am getting 47%, what am I doing wrong?
