So I have the same issue and support is useless. I am very knowledgeable in IT and have tried everything I can think of. Of course if you have this issue you know it is very aggravating when someone tells you to:
Restart Phone/Toggle Wifi
Restart Router
Reset Android Network Settings
Forget Network
Factory Data Reset
Install latest Software Updates/Firmware on Router/s22 ultra device
Get a new phone
None of these are actually trying to solve the issue because these are the answer you get when noone knows whats wrong. It's apparent the galaxy has a huge wifi Bug! If you google this issue it's been going on since the s10.
I have been using my Galaxy Note 9 flawlessly. Super fast. Never had issues for all these years. Reason I am upgrading is because its 4 years old and battery is shot and its cracked.
My wife has the s21 ultra for a year now and internet is terrible on it. Its so bad I got her a long ethernet cord and ethernet to usb-c adapter to hold her over. I thought maybe the new phone and software would have figured the issues out but no we both got the s22 ultra's and they stink(wifi issues, fingerprint issues, and glitchy). I don't know how they can have 3 years of selling flagships phones with a known issue with wifi.
My galaxy note 9 side by side comparison shows using "wifi sweetspots" app way better quality and bandwidth. Never drops out and no problems with DHCP handling. Some users have reported it helped when they changed to a static IP and used Phones Mac address(not randomized) in advanced settings and updated router to allow that mac address through firewall(whitelist) etc... I mean i have tried changing metered network to unmetered and explored the dev options (enabled by pressing 7 times on software build):
Wi-Fi Safe Mode (prioritize stability over performance)
Wi-Fi scan throttling (saves battery and improves network performance)
Enhanced Wi-Fi MAC randomization (changes this phones Mac address each time it connects to a network that has mac randomization turned on)
Other things to note about my environment:
Router: Linksys 1900ACv2 WRT (have tried using Linksys firmware as well as OpenWRT firmware)
Using 2.4ghz band (bgn mode) at 20mhz on uncongested channel 8 to be exact. Every wifi analysis tool shows no interference and great range well below -10dbm.
And here is the thing I can't stress enough what does the galaxy note 9 or any of the other 17 connected devices have going for them the other phones do not? Well i can say what do the 3 phones that don't work all have in common. All the new phones ever since s10 on had wifi issues. It is a software bug and noone at Samsung seems to care.
Yes forgetting network works. Yes going to airplane mode/toggling wifi works most of the time. Sometimes I have to restart router. Sometimes it just doesn't. I am 3 feet away from router. But the thing is I shouldn't have to keep toggling my wifi to sometimes work for a 1000 top of the line flagship phone.
Other observations:
It works when an active session is taking place. At a lower bandwidth than note 9 but works. It appears when phone hibernates, screen lock, or walk away from the range of router and phone re-establishes the connection/lease then it freaks out and forgets that it is a smartphone. It just absolutely melts and cannot find any self worth and just becomes a useless piece of junk!
Also on many of Samsung forums I see people who have had this issue have amazing new Nighthawk Routers using 5ghz and wifi 6 technology. So that really rules out me thinking maybe my router is just too old. I have made sure its using the most recent best practice security encryption protocols (WPA2 PSK).
By the way I have talked to tier 2 and Samsung Return Center and the best advice they can give is to send the brand new phone out of box to have serviced to make sure its working correctly and if it checks out that its working correctly it will be returned to me and if I have the same issue they will finally believe me and be able to escalate the issue hopefully to someone who actually has a degree in software/network engineering.
I really hope they figure this out but I think the 10% of us who are having this issue are on our own.
