Galaxy S3: Cracked Screen - Defective, not dropped.

Re: Cracked Screen - Defective, not dropped.

If the phone has truly never been dropped, then I agree, that sucks. But given that Samsung has sold something like 40 or 50 million of these, it doesn't seem like a widespread problem.

But when the phone has been dropped, it can put stress on the glass that weakens it, and eventually leads to failure. Kind of like a car windshield with a tiny little chip. It can remain a little chip for months, or even years, then suddenly turn into a crack that spreads across the entire windshield. The bigger the screens get the more fragile they become, I think.

Re: Cracked Screen - Defective, not dropped.

You have really helped me. I thought I was the only one. People at the Best Buy, Sprint, and Samsung were making me feel like I was crazy. I kept telling them I did not drop my phone or do anything to it. They kept telling me it was my fault and I have to pay for the repair because it Physical Damage. I kept explaining it to them yes I know what it is but it is not cause by me. They told this to the wrong person. I am not the type that quits. Please let me know if you want to join me so our voice can be heard. I bet there are many more others out there that this has happen too. But they keep forcing people to pay for a defect in there screens or phones. It stops here!!!

Re: Cracked Screen - Defective, not dropped.

This happened to me with a Samsung Mega. I placed the phone on my counter on the second night that I had it. I did not drop it, I did not bang it, and I did not damage it. When I went to bed the phone worked fine. When I awoke in the morning there was a perfect straight line across the bottom. I was unable to use almost all the apps unless I kept switching screen views.

Long story short, I went to AT&T where I just got the phone 2 days prior and they told me to call samsung. The bastards would not even pick up the phone and call. It was obviously a defect unless I took a razor and was capable of cutting a perfectly straight line.

After fighting with the store clerk at AT&T, they send me home after Samsung tells them over the phone to give me a new phone (which they refused). So I go home and call AT&T and call them and they agree to send me a new phone through insurance and they would waive the fee. The next day I get a Motorola Moto X instead of the Samsung.

At this point my head is ready to explode. I call AT&T and they say the insurance has a right to send me an equivalent if they do not have the phone. I put the two phones next to each other and it was ridiculous the size difference and quality.

So AT&T sends me another Samsung Mega and low and behold the screen cracks AGAIN this time from the right corner down on an angle to the middle of the screen. It is the same exact thing. A perfectly straight line as if cut with a razor.

This is supposedly a phone that can withstand drops, has gorilla glass, and what not.

There is no doubt, THE PHONE IS DEFECTIVE!

Re: Cracked Screen - Defective, not dropped.

I see this is a common problem. I recently just purchased my Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and it has a cracked screen. I have never had any issues with phones I’ve had the last 15 years. I’ve always kept them protected and babied them. Never had to replace a damaged or broken phone. The crack happened literally just sitting there. I did nothing to it. So now I’m forced to go back to my LG Viper since I refuse to pay $200+ to have it repaired when it wasn’t my fault.

I tried to upload a picture but it won't let me.

Welcome to the forums!

At a minimum, since you're not going to use it anyway, you should contact Samsung to find out about warranty repair. Perhaps they'll fix it and you'll just be out the shipping cost.

I bought a Samsung S4 mini duos about a month ago and today I woke up, after a overnight being charged, with the display cracked. I cant believe this.
A hardware tech guy told me that Samsung has a problem with heating. And screens crack easily with heat. This would happen if the battery heats a lot when charged. Or, because samsung devices has a ****ty GPU units that heats a lot with any "extreme" application such as Games...
About a year ago i had an issue with a samsung tablet that kept rebooting itself forever.
And Samsung customer care is horrible
I think i lose more time speaking to them and trying to solve "my" issues, than the time i get trying having better electronics to have my life "easier".
Im sooo done with Samsung and their "high tech" electronics

Cracked the screen walking from the car to the house in cold temps ...never bothered to attempt resolve knowing the issue was mine and samsung would not do anything to rectify ..several months later the phone would no longer charge ...tried to get that fixed under warranty, and according to samsung canada, knowing the screen was cracked, they would repair the charging issue under warranty.

eventually received an invoice for $350, as due to physical damage, the phone will not be covered under warranty ...in discussion with samsung following receipt of said invoice, was advised they would cover the charging issue and place the phone back into warranty if i pay the 350 to fix the screen !?!?!? I advised as an analogy that this was the same as crashing my car and voiding the warranty, but if i fix the bumper to mask the damage, the manufacturer would place it back within warranty as there will no longer be any physical damage ...the executive customer service rep reluctantly agreed, and remained firm that if i fix the apparent physical damage so they can no longer see it, they would "pretend" it never occurred and fix the charging issue under waranty.

done with samsung, terrible products, terrible customer service, terrible company

Same thing here on a S4. Was a work phone I had for one day, ended up paying full retail price for the replacement..whereas normally they are free at my work under normal yearly replacements. Ugh.

not galaxy but my son has the same problem with the military grade one woke in morning and it was cracked ...was also hot. Verizon called us LIARS and said no settings can make the phone run hot... So the military grade phone can handle war zone but not bedside
