Galaxy S3 I9300 - Slow and inefficent charging problem.

any word if Samsung has provide an update as yet to rectify this problem?
Welcome to the forums!

No, they haven't, and the usual recommendation if you're having problems after an OTA is to perform a Factory Reset. You should also wipe the system cache, and both of these things can be done in Recovery mode.

Be sure to backup/sync any important information before performing the Factory Reset. You can use the Kies software for this purpose (you'll need Kies v3).

Hi I'm new to this forum but have had the same problem with my s3 get I9300. I tried a new battery rebooted etc. I have now used an ipad plug and normal usb to mini usb cable. My phone now charges to max in no time at all.hope this helps

I called up Samsung customer care and spoke about this. The guy on the line made me uninstall almost all Google Apps and clear data not cache. He then didn't let me close out clear the data on any Samsung apps. When I questioned him on Knox be changed the topic. I asked him if kit kat would be realised for the S3 he said at this stage they don't know. I got very frustrated and told him this is the phone that is in comparison to the i phone 5 and sorry i would never see apple do this. I just hope the call was used for quality purpose. He also made me uninstall avg anti virus. Of all of them out there this was the lightest on the phone. I told him android gets viruses and malware he not possible on Android.

So after doing the uninstalling of the updates the battery life is sightly better and the phone has a little less lag. Which is nice when I sit with the Sony and nexus phone owners.

Would i suggest you do what the guy made me do, no please do make the effort to meet someone face to face. I could not abd hence had to resort to phone support.

I am contemplating a custom ROM and a bigger battery.

Options are zero lemon 7000 but if defective then no return policy by the seller. The other is hyperion 4200. This comes with a seller guaranteed 1 year warranty.

I would like to do a whole day and not worry about charge.

hello my samsung tab 3 is charging so slow, to make it to 100% i need to wait for 15 hrs. any idea on what is happening to my tab? pls help. thank you.

It happened to me also. I think there is a problem with S3 charger. I just used s4 charger and everything is ok now.
I hope it helps to those who have problem in S3 charging.

just a short reply to Michael Yu1:

Couple of months ago i bought a S4 charger for my S3.
at the beginning it was charging my phone in about 2 hours and everything was cool.
then after a while "as i said i bought it just couple of months ago" the same problem ca,e back again....
Now i always turn off my phone while charging and it takes about 4-6 hours to fully charge my phone.

i will post my history with S3 charging problem now, hope anyone still have something that i didn't try it yet or have a new solution for it...

Good luck and hope your charger won't do the same as mine, by the way i play Clash Of Clans a lot and it's the main reason behind charging my phone a lot during the day.

For all the Samsung Galaxy S3 users who is having the normal problem which is slow charging....
here is my history with this problem, hope we all can get a use of it :

Things that I tried to fix this problem after my original charger start to charger my phone so slow like 12 hrs of charging...
1- use an IPhone original charger, that doesn't fix the problem.
2- use a not original charger, that doesn't fix the problem and some of them didn't even charge my phone at all.
3- i bought a black berry charger, it used to freez my phone and touch screen doesn't work while charging it which was weird and i stopped using it on the same day, so it didn't fix the problem.
4- i bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 charger "i tested it first at my friend's house using his S4 charger", it was perfect the...
My new S4 charger was charging my phone in just 2 hours, and if i plugged my charger while playing my game "Clash Of Clans" it keeps charging up, which means i can fully charge my phone while playing but it takes much longer time of course.
After using the S4 charger for about 2 months, the problem started to come back again :((((
5- some people advised me to hard format my phone, so i did made the hard format from the recover screen, and it didn't fix the problem.... "btw: the hard format code which used from the dial screen, it didn't work on my phone at all"

NOW I'm really frustrated about how i'm gonna fix this problem.

PLEASE IF ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION OR SOMETHING I DIDN'T TRY IT YET, please reply to me and tell me what else i can try......
Any comment or any idea, will be really highly appreciated.

Hi to all:
USB port has charging capacity only 500mAH, and your S3 has a charger which is 2000mAH, so your USB port have 4 times less charging rate. If you are using your mobile during charge how a USB port can charge sufficiently. if wifi is on and usb ported mobile consuming 450mAH/m slightly less than rate of charge from usb how can you charge mobile in an hour...

Hi, my original charger broke and I use blackberry charger as a subtitute and it charsges fine i get 77 percent within 30 minutes but years has past i want to buy a charger for samsung and boom i land on the same problem of you guys XD.

I was rip off they said the charger is high quality XD but it suck so i returned to charging my phone using XD bblacberry charger.

hello i got samsung galaxy GT19082 and its charging is very slow charger is fine even battery is fine but phone is taking 6 hours for charging but when i charge it by switching off my phone charging time cames to normal

Hi everyone,

I had a very similar problem that is being discussed and followed most of the tips but without success.. (new adapter, battery, charge point etc etc)

I have now identified the problem and thought I would share..

1) get a pin
2) go under a strong light with your phone
3) clear all debris from the charge socket on the phone
4) using a pin place it inside the charge point and below what appears to be the connection point ( there is a small chip set looking thing inside the socket)
5) gently raise it with the pin by applying some pressure so that the connection point raises up slightly
6) connect and job done it should charge normally.

I think by using the chargers aggressively it bends the connection point within the socket and this causes the problem

if you have any questions I am happy to help as it was soooo frustrating and I want to help others before they spend money on fixes that probably wont work

Thanks for useful advice! I am playing with my phone every evening while on charger and last several months I noticed irregular charge rate. From almost normal up to extremely slow. I tried playing with clearing cashe but this didn't help.

Then I changed charging cable and I had battery full in 105 min.

Samsung charger is OK, but if you use the phone while it is on the charger the mechanical stress will finally make your phone or cable micro USB connector bad. Bad contact cause voltage drop and phone cannot get all the current needed for a good charge. So my advice is: start from mechanical and electrical connections as Tom Caddick sad, and if this fails then search other possible cause as battery and charger fault.

Buy a new charger. Usually it's just charger problem so yeah.

I'm currently using an S3 but a Note 2 charger and the charger has no problem for already 2 years now. So you should buy a Note 2/3 charger instead. Make sure to check if they fit perfectly to your tab's charging place before buying though.

Hope this would help.

My phone is suddenly charging slow since yesterday dunno how :/ I use BlackBerry charger too because Samsung one is too slow. Dunno why phone is chasing so slow inspite of using same charge point same charger ?

Yeah agree with androidgirl3107

Just buy Galaxy Note 2 travel charger adapter. You can use the cable with the old s3 charger, or with the note 2 charger. It came with the same reading at galaxy charging current lite, a steady 1000mA and it charge fast! It's the cable that matters. Cheers!

Not a problem with your charger!! only the Cable is faulty, i've tested with 6 different cables & 4 different chargers (3 were 1Amp, 1 of 2Amp). Also used 3 different Test apps.
So After thorough testing, i was sure that the only fault was in Data Cable itself. now I am using same old original Samsung Charger with another chinese brand phone's USB CABLE and it charges fine!! no need to panic guys, just change the cable until you find the right one

I had a couple S3's at work that I just could figure out, erratic charging, it seemed like something wrong with the charger or cable, Found out they both have the same problem and it has to do with the cable connecting to the phone.

After fooling around with both phones I finally found cables that work with each of them, but I can't even swap cables, each phone must have it's unique cable. How stupid. I would never have found this out if I wasn't trying to fix these two S3's. I tried the fix above but it hasn't worked so far, maybe I'll have to use a stronger light to try and see the problem. Other than this fix I thing I'll take each phone to the store and try cables until I find ones that seem to work. From the sounds of it here lots of other people have this same problem but don't know it. If your S3 charges poorly I would try cleaning and then try cables

But what nonsense, my old S2 takes ever cable and it works fine

Hi Akshay,

Firstly you shouldn't try difference charging pins at all with Samsung phones. It works till it works. But if it doesn't its a big problem. You are right in identifying since when it stops working good for you. You need to go to the service center. There'll be 2 things - 1st the phone's charging pin needs to be changed, the cost is Rs. 400,- no other charge. If that also doesn't work then the charging IC is dead. Which will need a replacement. I don't know the cost of that but that's about it.

You will have the IC replaced only if you have bough the instrument in India, if an international model, Samsung service centre will not change it.

Hope this helps!

Beware of low quality chargers, they don't offer a good stabilized output voltage. Low quality cables have a very high ohmic resistance, so the voltage drops when it arrives to the phone. Try both genuine cable and charger and let's see first.
