Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

My SG3 has been doing that fairly regularly since I got it just a couple months ago. The screen will freeze black and not come back even though the blinking notification lights still work until I pull the battery and put it back in, which sucks because I have a Lifeproof case and it's not easy to remove and put back on.

You realize that isn't normal behavior?

Did you get the phone new or used?

Are you sure the phone isn't overheating in that case?

Has it always done this or did it start with the 4.3 update?

ohk everything is working on my samsung galaxy s3. the battery died and i plugged it to charge on my samsung smart tv... next day phone comes on but nothing is showing on the screen.. i can make and recieve calls, messages, etc.help!

I could use some help with this.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747M). The phone was ran over by a car and the screen no longer turns on. I think it's the LCD because the phone itself works fine: I can hear sounds on startup, volume sounds, and I can use voice control. The soft buttons work as well as the home button so I'm pretty sure the digitizer is in tact because it controls these things. What I want to know is if I buy an MHL adapter would I be able to see the phone's screen on the TV or would having a broken LCD be a problem? I want to see what I'm working with with voice controls so I can actually try and find a fix to screencast it to my computer.

Edit: The only other thing I can think of is to borrow someone else's phone and use their LCD/digitizer on my phone so I can root and enable debugging, then use screencast.

Wonder if anyone can answer this one.

I have a Samsung S3 on the Three Network in the UK. Been working absolutely fine since getting it in Sept 2012. On Christmas Day I wake to find the phone cycling between the Samsung Start up screen and the Three Network logo every thirty seconds or so and then restarting. As it was on silent there was no sound or vibrate. Kept repeating this until I switched it off. Switched back on to no avail. Still kept doing the same thing. Pulled battery, left off for an hour - tried to restart, exactly the same. Cycling between the Samsung Start up screen and the Three Network logo. Hadn't dropped the phone, or any damage. On Xmas Eve, plugged it in as normal, Xmas morning woke up and it was cycling its wee heart out.

Tried a soft reset. Nothing. Came back on and still going backwards and forwards between the two screens.

Tried a factory reset, Now this changed everything. Screen now black. No screen activity at all. Nothing. Non responsive. Cant see or do anything, cant hear anything, no vibrate. When plugged into charge the LED is red, when switched on (no sound or vibrate) the LED comes on after 5 seconds goes blue and pulses gently for around 30 seconds then goes off. Starts again, off for 5 seconds, gently pulses for around 30 seconds and switches off.

Tried Kies to no avail as the phone switches itself off before the cable connection is done.

The phone wont switch off with the power button, the battery has to be removed to power down. Once battery is reinserted power button has to be pressed before starting up again.

Anyone got any ideas cause its stumped me.

When the phone was booting up, did you see the Samsung logo? Can you boot into recovery? If yes, can you see the screen in that mode?

I don't know for sure, but i would expect the TV output to be independent of the LCD. The only question I have is whether you need to change some setting on the phone in order to send the output to the USB port.

And that would be a very good friend indeed to let you disassemble their phone.

Not much to offer. If I understand correctly, when you boot into Download mode the phone shuts off almost immediately? What happens if you boot into Recovery?

No need to apologize. I don't think any English speakers on this forum can communicate in Albanian at all. Welcome to Android Central.

When you say "blue light", I think you mean the screen is turning blue in the upper right corner. Is that correct? If so, I'm afraid your OLED screen has been damaged. And if the touch screen isn't working, that means the digitizer has probably been damaged. There's a small chance the digitizer problem is just a loose connector, but you probably need to replace the complete screen assembly, I'm sorry to say.

When trying Download or Recovery mode the same thing happens. Blue LED comes on after 5-10 seconds, pulses gently for around 30 seconds and switches off. Then repeats same sequence until battery pulled. No screen, no vibration, no sound.

No screen, no vibration, no sound.
Did your phone already have the 4.3 update?

I thought the symptoms of Sudden Death Syndrome were similar to this. It may be time for warranty repair.

Depending on what firmware was on it you may be able to try debricking it.

Last time I checked it was running 4.1. Its well out of warranty being 18 months old sad to say. Got several quotes for around ?25 ($40) to diagnose it and maybe repair it if its a software issue. I think I'll have to go down that route. Thank you every one for their help. It reinforced what I was thinking.

I have a TMobile Galaxy3 my screen is black. I can hear my phone ring and swipe to answer but cannot see anything on my screen. Is this repairable I have alot stored in this phone

The screen is actually made up of three layers: the glass (which protects everything); the digitizer (which records your touches); and the AMOLED display (which, uh, displays everything).

It sounds like your digitizer is shot. It's very difficult (read - next to impossible) for a normal user to replace individual layers without borking the other layers in the process. See the post above yours for the best alternative (that is, replacing the whole screen assembly - I'm not pushing that particular product; it's just one source for replacement parts).

Hey, my samsung galaxy s3 fall and broke the screen, the phone works', turn on, the touch is working I can hear it ,the LED light up when charging, but the screen stays black and it dosnt ring / vibrate when called, when I call to my phone from another phone it doesnt even ring to my phone.
Plz help me tnx

it dosnt ring / vibrate when called
It sounds like you may have damaged more than just the screen, but since you said that the touchscreen is still working perhaps you inadvertently turned off the sound when you were fiddling with it.

At a minimum you're going to need to replace the screen assembly - once that's working you can determine if anything else is wrong. See post #160 for a link to one possible source; I'm sure you can find deals on eBay or other sites.
