Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

what does it mean "screen assembly" ?
The screen assembly is basically the whole front portion of the phone - it includes the frame and glass + digitizer + AMOLED display. See http://m.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-screen-assembly-replacement-white.html for one possible source, or look for similar items on eBay. Be sure to get the correct colour for your phone.

This is a DIY repair - if you're not comfortable taking the phone apart then you could try http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-lcd-digitizer-frame-repair-service/ (quite a bit more expensive).

I'm new here and hoping I'm posting correctly. I run my life thanks to a Galaxy s3 that I don't think I can live without. I dropped it in a toilet (at least a clean one) yesterday. Immediately took it out, got the battery and all the cards out - wiped dry and let air dry. The phone never even turned off, so I was very hopeful. I put it back together after about an hour and it booted right up. The only thing not working is my touch screen. It displays, but it won't respond to touch. The bottom touch buttons work fine, just no touch on the screen. I spent some time computer researching and was hopeful that if just wasn't dried out well. So, I did the vacuum, the freezer, the bag of rice overnight, everything except the rubbing alcohol treatment. Phone still boots right up. I can see new messages and calls as they come in. Shows alerts at the top, etc...but no response to touch screen, making it virtually non-functional. I've done some reading and it sounds like I might be out of luck without having it worked on or doing an insurance replacement, etc... Just checking to see if any thoughts or advice? Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forums.

Water exposure is never a good thing. A bag of rice should always be the first thing to do and right away. As far as I know, the device may be able to be saved by replacing the screen, but keep in mind that other problems may occur later after the screen is fixed. I would say file a claim with insurance.

Sounds like the digitizer or other part of the screen are damaged. Dropping is the most common, but a hardware part may have burned out.

Hello guys,

I have Samsung Galaxy S4. Before 2 months my mobile phone fell into the water. I tried to dry it and after few hrs worked perfectly. After few days i updated the phone and suddenly black and white moving stripes appeared on the screen. After turning off the phone, it worked perfectly again.

The problem is today... After turning off in order to change the sim card the screen appears to be pink , the touch is not working perfectly ( only to unlock ) and generally i cannot use it anymore. Again black and white moving stripes appeared on the screen.

I tried to do factor reset but the only things that i can see are: the PINK Samsung logo , Recovery Boot it appears at the upward left corner. Finally the white black stripes appear again..

I dont know what i can do in order to save my contacts...

Don't you have your contacts synced with Google? If so, you shouldn't have to worry about them.

If not, you can try using Samsung Kies (you'll need v3 if your phone had 4.3 firmware) to backup your important information. It'll allow you to backup your contacts, pictures/videos (if they're stored on the internal memory), SMS/MMS, call logs, (most) desktop settings and even your apps (not sure about app data).

Then use the links in post #172 as a reference to find a replacement screen assembly for your S4 (the links I provided were for the S3).

thank you for the information. My phone has a black screen because of the water. I have tried with drying up but it didn't work. Can you please tell me what can I do? Thank you.

My phone has a black screen because of the water. I have tried with drying up but it didn't work.
The recommended method of dealing with water:
- IMMEDIATELY take the battery out
- put the battery and phone in a sealed container (Tupperware; Zip Lock bag; etc) with enough uncooked rice to completely cover both items
- leave the items in the sealed container for at least 48 hours; longer is better
Depending on what kind of liquid the phone was dropped in (toilet; salt water) it may be necessary to take the phone apart and actually scrub it with Isopropyl alcohol, but that's not for the faint of heart.

Thank you, there is some thing else, since it happened I tried to dry it up and time by time I was trying to turn it on, in the beginning on the screen was showing the home page but few seconds later it went grey-er, and grey-er till it got black. I used to turn it off and after turn it on again and the same thing happens, this until a week ago when on the screen (when the phone is on) you can see just a light green line on a black screen. Do you think this method might have burn any part inside the mobile. The next thing is, what do you mean with 'taking the phone apart' accept the battery what should I take apart else. thank you again.

There's no way to tell without replacing the screen assembly - it depends on how much water was still in the phone when you turned it on; how long the moisture remained in there; and where the water pooled.

As I noted, the need to take the whole phone apart and wash it with Isopropyl alcohol was dependent on what kind of liquid it was in - if it fell in salt water (the ocean) this would probably need to be done since salt water is very corrosive to electronics; if it just fell in your sink in tap water then it would be adequate to dry it out using the rice method.

FYI - Here's an example of taking it apart if that were necessary.

I am replacing my S3 glass. phone worked w/o issue when I had it taken apart. I removed the back, the circuit board, camera. That's it. When I replaced glass first time, my glass was too tight around the home button and when I tried to force button thru the opening the glass broke. Up to that point the phone have been responsive in all positions even after adding the glue (I did put a little too much on the first time). Now I am awaiting the replacement glass again and so put the phone back together but now the touch screen will not unlock when it is horizontal and both settings and return keys stay lit when I activate the screen, until it times out and goes black. I DO see the 'waves' on the screen from my touch, but it will not unlock or offer the notification drop down. But if I hold the phone vertical, it is responsive. Did I tweak something with the accelerometer when I put it back together? Is there a way to check that? I did have a little too much glue the first time but none of it got on any components at the top, ie: front camera, sensor, etc.
