Galaxy S4 & Playing my Music in Car

Thanks to all of you who tried to help me figure out how to play music through my car stereo. I bought an audio cable and it did not work. I made sure the cable was plugged in securely. So, after a couple more on-line chats, phone calls with Samsung over a weekend, I called their product department on a Monday, thinking I could order a Samsung audio cable through them. The rep told me they do not sell that product but also told me she has a Samsung III and she bought an audio cable through Radio Shack for $10 and it works just fine. So that's what I did and it works!!! I can now play music through the stereo in my car!!! The sound quality isn't as good as what I hoped it would be but I also know there are sound settings in my music app I can adjust. I have to turn the volume all the way up on my car stereo to hear the music pretty good and then when I switch over to a radio station it is WAY too loud. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the quality/volume issue, I would appreciate it!!! Again, thanks to all of you for your help!!!
Do you have your phone paired to your car's Bluetooth? If so, just make sure you have "media audio" checked so that your music and other stuff also transmit through Bluetooth. The sound may be about the same as the AUX but at least you wont need a cable. Your car's stereo has to support A2DP to work though.

Edit: Did some research and found that GM car stereos dont support A2DP at this time. Weird since the tech has been out for a few years now. Your best bet is to use the AUX cable as you are currently. You cold also get a A2DP to AUX Adapter.

Thanks for the research on the GM car stereos!!! The AUX cable is working just fine!!! Having a little trouble with iTunes, though...I can transfer my music library on to my phone but then I get a message that says my player does not support the audio format. I think I am going to import my CD's right to my device.

You can buy a cable one end of which plugs into your phone's earphone plug outlet, and the other end into your car stereo system.

Turn the media audio all the way up on the S4. I find I have to turn the car audio up maybe 5% more then i would with radio.
I use a tape deck adapt myself. works great.
I do wish the S4 had a line out option rather then having to turn the vol up

I use the Power Amp app as it will play just about any format. most is converted CDs to FLAC.

In the past I have been able to play music and make/receive phone calls via Bluetooth in my 2013 Kia Rio. For the past few days, only calls? I go to the setting and try to check the media box and it won't let me... any ideas?

I have had my phone for about 6 months and this has never been an issue, it has always worked beautifully. I am thinking about wiping my phone clean and starting from scratch... but I would love to avoid that if anyone has any ideas. THANKS!

I have the same issue. s3 no longer connecting properly to my 2012 kia Rio and it's since my s3 upgraded to android 4.3. Something must have changed in the Bluetooth for 4.3

In the settings for the paired device under Connections>Bluetooth there might be a profile for "media audio" or something similar that you need to make sure is checked.

You could try going into app manager and look for bluetooth share and delete the the data to reset your bluetooth connection settings. You will have to pair it again the next time you use it.

I don't get why nobody suggested this before, but I'll give a try: you can just download DriveDroid, create a blank image and "host" this image on the app. it will make any device (like your car stereo) recognize the image you created on your phone as a mass storage device, so you can put songs in there and play almost anywhere like a flash drive. never actually tried this, but I believe the downside is that you can't access the songs you put there through your music player on the phone

so I looked a little further, and apparently there's an easier way to do that, you can download this app that enables SD cards on your s4 to be mounted as mass storage devices. so you can simply put your songs in your sd card, and mount it when you want to play it in your car.

I just got a Galaxy S 4...which so far I absolutely am digging...I came from an iPhone 4S which was very nice but I needed a change...lol Anyways I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra that I used to just connect my iPhone thru the usb cable thru my AUX & listen to my music...now that I have the s4...that does not work...How can I play my music thru my car like before? thx again
.

I have the same problem but what I do is having the Samsung music playing on the phone BEFORE I start my car. Due to that problem, I am thinking in switching back to iPhone. Good luck

yes, have the music plying on the phone BEFORE you start the car. It usually works in my car, but not always. my car is a Lexus and the service people could not fix the problem because there is NO solution. Good luck. Armand

I found that I am able to play my Samsung Galaxy S4 music streaming through the blue tooth of my car only if I have the Samsung music ON FIRST on the phone BEFORE I START the car. Try that. Good luck.

I read these posts...looked around the house for something like a splitter and found one. Audio into phone and ac red and white into brain of my avic n4 which is under passenger seat. Then turn on AV-1 and AV-2 on Avic N4 which mine is connected to AV-1 is works BEAUTIFULLY. Thanks

Hello there,

ok so i have tried that, i have a regular AUX cable, put my radio into 'AUX' mode, plug my phone in, pick a song and it says it cannot play. any suggestions?? my radio does not have a USB port. :-( help!

That depends on your stereo. Unfortunately, most car stereos have iPod/iPhone compatibility through USB but not for Android Media devices. If you connect your phone to the stereo, if lucky, it will recognize it as an USB storage device, but since the mode was removed from Android since Gingerbread, unless your stereo supports MTP (which I doubt), you won't be able to use the phone like you did with the iPhone. Your best bet would be to connect it through the Line In jack (or AUX) and plug the phone through the earphones jack.

Is there an app you can use to play the music through?
