Galaxy S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

This is my first smartphone ever, if this isn't a lag I don't know what is.

Here's what I'm experiencing when I tap/view Settings,
as well a few apps but not all apps. I've already set dev. animation
options to zero and did a phone restart.

RAM Status at 1.56GB/1.81GB

SamsungS5 lag - YouTube

I'm getting ready to do a factory reset this evening, if this doesn't work perhaps my next step is to try an alternate launcher ?
Other suggestions?

-Thanks

I don't see any lag there. In fact that looks pretty responsive.

Are you kidding right? People, if you can't live with that response time, and you call that Lag, then please, return your Full of features and specs S5 and go with a Plain Vanilla Android Version smartphone or with the almost equally boring HTC One M8, and you will be happier, and all of us will also be happier reading less complaints about what we feel is the best phone out there.

Like I've mentioned before I had an M8, it lasted a week with me, Why?, Well, I gave it a try this time to HTC because they added an SD card slot, but for me Plain Android UI are simply boring and unattractive and HTC's Sense is, well, little better on the UI aspect but equally boring, I swear that the same day I bought that phone I was bored already. I gave it a couple of more days but there were a couple of things that I simply hated so it wasn't the phone for me, maybe for others will be the best phone, and I respect that, but coming here and complaining about lags and simply talking about Milliseconds of difference opening Settings and other apps is another story.

People seem to forget that Samsung's Touch Wiz brings Tons of new innovative features (some are gimmicks) but some are Pure fun and very useful, like Multi-Window, Toolbox, Priority Senders on Phone and Messages (That can easily explains the Milliseconds of difference opening them the first time Vs Nexus 5 or M8), Air View, Swipe to Call or Message, the whole Contacts (Phone and message) app, where you fully integrates and links all your contacts accounts, whole UI colors and animations, plus tons of other things that obviously, will take a lot more space and memory to be able to make it work, and MOST of us are very grateful to Samsung for think on what the user would love to have on their phones, and make that as easy as possible. This, without mentioning the Great Water and Dust resistant idea, Capacitive Buttons to not steal from the Great and Universally claimed as one of the best if not the best Display on any smartphone right now, all of this in an incredible Long lasting 2800ma battery that has been proven to last 7 hours of Screen On Time (In my case of heavy using of Web Browsing, Bluetooth, Emails, Apps and everything you may think of). It has it's faults, of course, it's not perfect, but all of them have some, but as I see it, nothing that can't be solved with a simple software update.

That's what this is all about, having everything we need in a phone, the masses speak for themselves, what is the most successful Android phone Series for years now?, The Galaxy Series with it's TouchWiz and their "lags", plus, if it wasn't for Samsung, do you think Android will be in the position it is right now?, you are kidding yourselves if you think the contrary.

Stop reading about lags on this forums, just keep using your phone and enjoying it, it's a Great, great phone, people do have issues and those need to be fixed and deal with it, but thinking on returning the best Galaxy Series phone that Samsung has built because of milliseconds opening an app for me is simply ridiculous. If you can't deal with these so called lags then just return it and go pick yourself another one, that's the beauty of Android, you don't need to settle for less than you expect, you will always have tons of options.

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

Great to hear all the positive answers so far. The guys over at the M8 board are going on and on about the "S5 lag." Methinks I detect a bit of sour grapes. (LOL) :D

I had an M8 for a month and just switched to the S5 (for other reasons)...the S5 definitely moves noticeably slower than the M8...and the battery life is much worse, hands down.

I've heard others say the S5 battery lasts longer. Its always funny to see all of our different experiences. :)

As for the lag sure there's a tiny bit but I'm used to TouchWiz so its still great for me.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

Probably because it was loaded with demos and apps others downloaded on it.

I don't notice any lag on mine, then again I don't keep tons of apps open. I tend to clear my apps frequently.

there is an article on android central talking about RAM. clearing apps frequently is not gonna help make it run faster.

When I'm getting 7 hours daily of Screen on time on my s5 and the most I could get on the m8 was 6.25 hours with the same kind of use I simply don't know what you're talking about.

I've had both and yes the M8 definitely moves noticeably faster than the S5. Not sure that's totally attributed to "lag" or just TouchWiz being so damn heavy

i dont see any lag?

I am so sick and tired of all this crap about lag! This started way back with the S3 and has been used by FanBoys ever since! Bottom line is if you know what you are doing and change some settings this phone is just as fast as any on the market now! Add Nova launcher to the mix and it is absolutely blazing! Outside of the Gallery App which has been an issue for some time, everything is rock'n fast, PERIOD!
Now, if that's too much work for you, and you don't mind buying a phone missing the options and features of the S5, by all means go pickup a N5 or One M8! But don't fool yourself, just because it's less doesn't make it better! To each their own!

Cheers

You can say that all day long but my experience differs from yours in pretty much every way. And I'm not the only one here, as it seems.

I wanted to like the S5. I like its hardware, I can even identify with its somewhat messy philosophy, but if there's one thing I can't stand it's a phone with a slow UI - and that's exactly what the S5 has been for me. I'm sorry if that offends you, but I'm certainly not here to move the S5 into a bad light. This thread asks for user opinions and that's mine, honest to god.

I am glad we have decisions after reading this one sided bias opinionu, just like all phones Samsung has plenty of faults regardless to how many phones they sell consumers just do not do enough researching before they buy.

Remove any app killers, cache and ram cleaners, lookout, antivirus etc and you will see zero lag. This phone is as fast if not faster than any other phone out there.

Biased? well that's your opinion, the same opinion I have for all the others Samsung Haters posting in this S5 forum trying to avoid been so obvious adding the words I think, or In my opinion at the end of the post, but as you can see all is just pure Hate to Samsung or Touch Wiz or Both.

I say the things as I see it, I'm a grown man who doesn't need to come to forums to read other's opinions to have my own, that's why I've never been loyal to a specific company, I go with the ones I like and fulfill my needs at the moment. For me, any phone without an SD card is a Huge NO, so this year, HTC added the SD card so I gave them a try, in a summary, it wasn't the phone for me, but I can tell you that it was and it's a great phone, one of the best out there, but not the best, the best for me is defined for what it has and what it can do, that's the reason behind the so called smartphones, not if is XX milliseconds faster opening this app or the other, it must make my life easier, and I must love the UI in general, meaning Colors, Animations and Design, that's what best for me, not what another person tells me it is.

As of now, with the options I described above and don't need to repeat here, the S5 is the best phone out there for me and for A LOT of others, faults, of course it has, like I said, all of them have them, so it's not perfect, but a Great phone indeed. If you think that it's not for you, great, just keep on going, coming here to this forum specifically created for the S5 owners is totally unnecessary.

Samsung has slowly taken on the hate that the iPhone received at one time from Android users. I don't know what it is, but as soon as a phone becomes popular beyond the realm of the super geek, and becomes popular in the general public, I almost immediately see other phones being praised and every little thing of a said "general public popular phone" being pointed out while the brands that lag behind in sales get pushed and seem to have no faults. It's interesting to watch. I personal experience no lag, and my wife has the HTC and see zero difference. My battery last longer than hers (yes, I do use mine more than her, by a long shot), and is just as responsive. These lag threads are getting old, so many of them. I don't know if people are failing to see all the other lag threads, or if there is some agenda here. It's well documented there is some lag to touch wiz (which I don't even use now, because I like the Google Now Launcher atm, and I didn't switch because of lag), but from the videos I have watched it barely noticeable, it seems like nitpicking to me at this point.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

I have the same apps open/closed frequently, so my usage pattern is similar across the two phones.

Both phones are completely acceptable and have their own strengths!!! :-)

Comparing it to my previous s3 and s4 no,no lag at all. Then comparing it to an iphone 5s i say yes but very very little. Only noticed as i've been using an s5 and 5s switching between them for a week each.

All up though it's still smooth as with almost no lag.

I have serious lag. ESP when switching to "recent apps". There is at least a second and a half delay either entering or leaving (choosing app, then switching to it) I've heard that touchwiz is extremely resource intensive. It's annoying too because I'll maybe touch it -- recent app key -- by accident and not catch it until after it loads which gets in the way of whatever I was doing in the first place. I hope that wasn't too confusing.

i dont see any lag?

Is it actually possible to get a different launcher?

8 hours on the phone so far today and I am at 90%. I would say that is AMAZING. Not using battery saver etc. BUT, I haven't used the phone much today either.

My phone is faster than my friends Iphone 5s,

Re: S5 And Lag... Does It Or Doesn't It???

that is impressive!

I'm totally digging this phone now that I joined this forum and understand the Linux system. It wasn't so good out of the box because of the apps that transferred which were app killer, ram cleaner, lookout anti virus etc. I was always trying to free up memory space and little did I know, Linus works best when pushed and cache is filled up and ram is down! The exact opposite of what I thought. If there is any passage of time that passes from going to one app to another, my human brain can't process it.

Sometimes when I am not using my phone at work, I turn off locations. That seems to help, but even if I don't, my phone after a LONG 17 hour day and a hell of a lot of use, is still around 30-40% when I go to bed.
