Galaxy S5: Huge disappointment, Samsung TOTALLY dropped the ball!

Re: HUGE Disappointment -- Samsung TOTALLY Dropped The Ball

People say the same thing about user manuals.

If you didn't, your shutter would be faster

That's what you get for writing a useful and well thought out post. If it isn't short and it doesn't agree with what someone wants to hear, they won't read it.

Don't use Apple as an example, each new iPhone is designed using a piece of tracing paper over it's predecessor. Samsung if anything is copying Apple by releasing an almost identical phone each year.

Except the S5 looks completely different than the S4.

He never once explained how to get rid of the 1 second shutter lag. I've tried many 3rd party camera apps that still have this lag. I do not want to lower the resolution of my photos to achieve this. Burst mode has nothing to do with shutter lag. I want to be able to push the shutter button once and instantly take the shot. Instead of saying the camera is capable of no shutter lag, he could have explained how to do this. I've tried every mode and they all lag. Even the "action mode" has the lag. Here's a good example.

Yeah, Apple seems to change the form factor only every other phone. I'm guessing part of that has to do with keeping accessories the same every other time and the rest has to do with being smart about your R&D budget. You don't need to redesign everything every year.

How would you know if you didn't read it?

Because after reading the comments of not reading his post, I went ahead to see if there was anything that could help but I was right. No useful info to get rid of the 1 second lag.

And also because changing form factor at every revision makes no sense.

Not only can it break accessories but it can affect brand image. Everyone know an iPhone cause they all look alike. Same for Galaxy S devices, HTC One and One Max, and most Nokia Lumia devices.

Don't see any 1 second lag on my Note. Just checked friend's GS4 literally seconds ago. There is no lag on his phone.

Turn off Auto Night Mode or Smart Stabilization if you have that setting on. I think Samsung phones ship with that enabled by default. Before disabling it, I could only take images at the rate of one per 2 seconds or so. I can slam on the shutter button now without issues.

There is no 1 second lag on his S4. It's a Verizon Model with the latest 4.3 update. My Note isn't directly comparable because the hardware is better and the ISP is far superior to the GS4, but there is no such lag on my phone either.

I appreciate your suggestions but I already have Anti-shake and auto night detection disabled. I've had this phone for awhile and compared it with friends who have it as well and their S4's have the lag. I'm convince it's the hardware because as I said previously stated, 3rd party camera apps also have it.

It's still a software issue. The Nexus 5 had the same problem on 4.4, and then the 4.4.2 update fixed that.

Not seeing the issue. Went to the coffee shop and I tested his camera with different settings. The only time he had slow shot to shot times is when he had Auto Night Mode enabled. Without that on, the only shutter lag of any noticeable length he had is when/if the phone had to focus before taking the image, and of course when it had to use the Flash (Flash set to "Auto"). Same experience on my Note.

By shutter lag I'm assuming you mean the time between when you press the shutter button and the camera snapping the photo. Shot to shot times were quick without the Auto Night Mode on (and picture quality noticeably better). There certainly wasn't a 1 second shutter lag on that phone.

Competition could be seen as one reason. If they'd kept the same basic Samsung design but used real aluminum trim and real or at-least non-plastic faux leather (think Blackberry 9000/9900) I think it would have gone a long way with a lot of customers.

As long as their devices are selling at a decent rate, they shouldn't change to a different and more expensive material. Samsung is great at marketing their products and can sell anyone on anything. The build of their material seems to only matter to hardcore users and tech journalists, but not mainstream device users, because everyone, iPhone or galaxy uses a case

I have a GS4 with the KitKat update, however I do have a serious lag between pressing the button and the actual snapping of the pic. I have the night mode and anti shake disabled. I have also disabled the flash. I experience the lag even while taking a pic that does not require much focus at all. I would love to have a fix for this.

It was my impression that the S4 was selling way way below expectations.

Maybe below their expectations, but that doesn't mean it was a sales flop. It was the best selling smartphone of all time until the 5S I believe.
