Galaxy S5 Needs more RAM.

did have 1100 MB free weeks ago just shows how ram MB are eaten by the system
of course I don't keep killing apps that causes lag and uses more data l leave em running

Okay, good!! I have no idea what available Ram I have, could care less, probably around 200-300, and my cache is probably 1.5gb. Phone is smooth baby...smooth.

If you want to get rid of the most common sources of lag, then uninstall the ran cleaner and anti virus and other junk apps that come with the phone.

Hey guys. Does this mean that this is good for my galaxy s5? That's almost 75% of the total RAM

Try the following:

1: go to phone
2: select keypad
3: type the following: *#9900#
4: your device will now open SysDump.
5: Delete dumpstate/logcat (second option from above)
6: notification pops up: ''delete dump !'' and press ''OK''

Now you will see your ram would be much lower dan it was before! (depending on how much cookies and stuff is running on the background which should not run).

works for me al the time, no apps, data or what so ever killing your RAM unnessesary!

Cheers!

Between the Note and the Galaxy there isn't really going to be a difference unless your a heavy phone user. RAM and processor only vary by a couple digjts. Not enough to really make you notice.

Well, whatever the reason, the lagging is unacceptable on a 2014 flagship phone. I'm on the fence on returning mine (Verizon). It has lagged since it was taken out of the box.

This isn't 2011. I'm not OK with constantly clearing out RAM, restarts, or searching forums for solutions anymore.

To be clear, when I say "lag", I don't mean navigation or opening stuff is slow. I mean that when you select something there's a slight delay before it does anything, in many areas like Chrome and Facebook scrolling is choppy. The camera is often agonizingly slow to start up and capture, and the shortcut to it on the lockscreen is not very responsive at all. The answer/ignore buttons on the phone are not responsive either. It's often "I think I swiped it, did I swipe it, hmm, oh ok there it goes". There's more, but those are the ones that bug me the most. I think much of it is just a lot of sloppy or perhaps lazy programming in Touchwiz.

Im sorry to say but u are absolutely right about everything u said.. 100% correct but I dont mind it really still like the phone but u are right. Opening gallery and navigating through it is the worst lag oh my

The ram usage indeed is a little bit low, it says it has to be at 2.2gb ram, i only have 1.67gb ram.

You don't need to worry too much about free RAM on your phone.

Samsung devices generally do require more RAM than others because of the heavy TouchWiz software however despite that your S5 should be running smoothly.

Android terminates existing applications in RAM as soon as you need more, so there is no need to keep measuring it every now and then.

However if you are very concerned about how much RAM your system consumes, I would recommend using a different launcher like the Google Now Launcher or maybe flashing a Custom ROM.

But try not to worry too much about it.

Who cares? 500 mb is pretty sufficient

And I agree, stop using stupid apps like battery saving, ram saving, task killers, they are the worthless and makes your phone perform worse. I have none of these apps installed and my phone works like a charm, no lag at all.

I agree with the op,this is exactly why I won't purchase this phone, it has the same ram as my gs3 and I hate when I have like 10 apps open, the go back to one of the first apps I was using, just to find out that I'm no longer where I was before because of ram limitations.

Yea, I have no clue why they went with 2 instead of 3, unless it's just because they didn't want to increase the cost to make the phone or something

I read somewhere before the S5 was released that the reason they stuck with 2GB vice 3 is because 4.2 does a much better job managing RAM than previous firmware versions..

I have Koreas beast mode LTE-A QHD model with 3GB and it still hogs up most of the 3 GB with the bloat ware from LG U+. No lag though. I'll admit though that the regular S5 get a little better battery life than this model, but this screen and 805 with 3Gb is such a beast its worth the slight loss of battery.

It's nice that you have that beastly model but what I fear is that you won't get too many updates or Custom ROM support.

So I'd gladly pick a 2GB RAM international version than a 3GB Korean version, just saying.
