Galaxy S6 Edge Screen Spontaneously Cracked

I'm posting this here to see if anyone else has experienced this. My wife has had a Galaxy S6 Edge for about 3 months now, and hasn't had any problems with the phone other than it gets pretty hot when charging. Yesterday, she showed me that her phone had an update but the battery was too low to initialize the update. At that time, the screen had zero cracks in it. She set the phone down on the couch next to me and went upstairs to get her charger. When she came back and plugged her phone in, the phone screen was completely shattered as if it had been dropped on gravel. I know 100% that from the time I looked at her phone and when she discovered it cracked, it had not sustained any kind of fall or impact. I am absolutely at a loss for how this kind of thing could have happened. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Amazing! I just had the very same issue happen to my tmobile samsung galaxy s6. It was abolutely fine before I laid it face down on the kitchen table next to me. When turned the phone back over right side up I noticed that the screen was shattered all on its own. No one even came near the phone and until this very day tge phone has NEVER been dropped. Really really strange. My dad says that its probably a design flaw. Whatever it is, it needs to be addressed by Samsung ASAP or lots of people will be paying to have replacements.

I had the same problem - twice! And other issues with the Samsung S6 also...

Bought the S6 standard phone (not the Edge) through Sprint along with a Samsung case and received both in the mail together. Screen was undamaged. Put it in the case for protection. 3 days later, there was a hairline crack. Minimal use, no drops or impacts of any kind. I was able to get a replacement for free from Sprint since it was within 2 weeks of purchase by saying it must have been damaged in shipping.

Replacement arrived in the mail. Inspected the screen extra carefully (no cracks) and put it into the Samsung case. 16 days later (no drops) there was a hairline crack - just over the 2-week threshold! I was screwed. I was actually able to get a second replacement for free through Sprint by driving into a Sprint store - I think the guy in the store simply took pity on my situation. On this one, the camera would not auto-focus - unrelated known issue with Samsung S6 camera, I learned. Didn't notice that problem until a month later (I don't take a lot of pictures). Decided to just live with the lousy POS.

Several months later, the S6 screen is cracked again - this time I dropped it. It was a very minor drop, of the type that my iPhone 4S has survived countless times even without a case. Oh well... by this point I hadn't expected any better from Samsung.

I know this is an older post but just so you know it is a defect and it does get damaged without so much of a whisp of air. I don't know if there is a battery overheating issue but without admitting it Samsung is reparing it for free after I had the ticket elevated. It's 100% a manufacturing flaw on the Edge and it may only be for some of the unlucky few.
Happy for the ones this hasn't happened to yet.
This is a second phone on my account and I knew I'll be crucified for saying this but I've NEVER EVER had issues like this on my iPhone and I'll never leave them.
:)

Do you have proof that this is a defect?? As this has happened to me twice now, How did you get Samsung to resolve this?

I just got off the phone with Samsung....my son and daughter n law both have the edge and both phones have done this. The screen cracked overnight while it was on charge. Hopefully they will fix this. I'll definitely escalate it if they try to charge me for it. I have the Note 5 and my husband has the s6 and we've had no problems with those at all.

Today my son noticed that the back of his galaxy s6 edge had a hair line crack across the back glass, he had this phone for 2 weeks now and has never dropped it. He plugged the phone in last night to charge it, there was no damage when he went to sleep but when he got up this morning and took the case off to change it to another case he noticed that there was a crack under the case. I contacted sprint where I got the phone and they replaced phone with no questions asked. It definitely seems as if this is an issue with the galaxy s6 edge. we have had s4, s5, note 5 and have never had a problem like this. Samsung fix this problem!!!

hi ive had the same problem finding my screen cracked in two places on the screen, took it to my network company, the refused to repair it.i contacted samsung and they said there not taking no responsible for the unknown cracked screen problem
any advice anyone?????

You should have got a Tempered glass screen protectors, this would not happen if you got one upon your screen:'(
What a pity, buddy

Has anyone had any luck with getting replacements. My husband gently tossed his phone on the seat next to him in the car (no sharp object, nothe dropped). And by gently I mean really gently, like a few inches off the seat. His screen shattered as well in a spider web form. He is so cautious with all his phones, I'm always the one dropping mine. We thought it was a crazy fluke that somehow (position, angle) that made it shatter. I meam mine fell in a puddle and wokes fine. After reading the stories I'm curious if anyone received positive results. Makes me think his gentle toss wasn't the cause.

a temperd glass screen protector wouldnt had solved the problem when the fact my screen cracked due to over heating when charging

The screen of our brand New Galaxy S6 Edge Plus cracked (thin spider web type) straight from the right side (Looking at the phone), close to the bottom, all the way to the top more to the middle of the phone.
We could not believe as the advertise we received that this SCREEN IS THE MOST STRONG IN THE MARKET & IS SEVERAL TIMES MORE STRONG THEN THE PREVIOUS GALAXYS, so how can just strangely crack like that?
We went to the internet to search and we found a lot of complains and reports regarding this same problem.
A lot of them says it happened AFTER THEY CHARGED WITH THE WIRELESS CHARGER AND THEY COMPLAIN THAT THE PHONE GETS VERY HOT, SPECIALLY DURING & AFTER CHARGING, WHICH WE CONFIRM.
Search:
-Galaxy S6 Edge Cracked screen from cold hands!
-s6 edge screen cracked:
-Samsung galaxy s6 edge plus defective screen:
Do you guys have any other report about this case??
Thanks

I got samsung to replace the screen on my s6 edge +. It wasn't easy but they gave me a "free courtesy repair"

Basically I kept saying the phone is in warranty the screen cracking isn't my fault. This is Samsungs problem you need to fix it. I had to speak to the head tech or something like that. I also mentioned that I KNOW I wasn't the only person who has called about this problem, after that he got quiet and said let me see what I can do.

I recently woke up from a transatlantic flight with my new S6 in the front pocket of my pants only to find the face cracked and the phone non-functional. I carried the S4 the exact same way for two years with no problem. Verizon tells me just to go through my insurance carrier, but it seems to me a defective design.

Did your phone get warm or hot?

Hey I've had my galaxy s6 edge for about 9 months and I just had almost the same thing happen to me today. It's 38 degrees here and I had just taken my phone off the charger before I went outside to walk to class. It always gets too warm during charging so I don't know if that played a part or not. When I got out of class I pulled my phone out of my coat and it was cracked across the front. It was in mint condition prior to this and also in a caseology case. I didn't have my coat on. It was sitting in my lap. Do you know if verizon will cover this claim if I have the premium insurance package?

Yes my s6 edge cracked spontaneously after being removed from the original 2 amp charger and then being exposed to cold weather. I'm currently researching information before I file my claim.
