Galaxy S8 / S8 + Battery Life Thread

My battery life sucks. I can almost watch my percentage go down. I have a SOT of 22 min and I'm at 89%. There's no way in hell that can be right.

Here are my first work day results, with pretty frequent mid to mid-heavy usage.... I intentionally did not charge at work or in the car...
Workplace type stuff... lots of emails, browser, phone calls, general app usage, but no heavy games or videos... I do have quite a few apps installed (maybe about 30, including IG and FB)... screen is on Auto-brightness with a pretty bright 75% preset. Full resolution screen, without any power saving modes... I didn't get a 1440P phone to run it at 1080 with a big percentage scaled down... what's the point of that? To get 30 mins more of battery?
Can't complain... pretty solid battery life. It's now 11:00 PM.
EDIT: forgot to add that location GPS was on all day... I never turn it off.

I'm experiencing the best battery life I've ever had on a smartphone. Very impressed.

Then I guess my phone must be defectuous. I don't see any other explanation anymore

Those of you who are experiencing 4 hours or less of screen on time, are you heavy video Watchers? Are you heavy into intense gaming? Those things by themselves will account for a big part of it. I will watch a couple of YouTube videos during the day and I only play casual games. I'm one who gets about 7 hours screen on time, and I imagine it would be considerably less if I watched a lot of videos and was into intense games.
I don't watch videos. I don't have any game installed on my phone. The only social media I use is Instagram.
And I have never had the luck to even reach 4 hours of sot.
Help!

I've noticed it boils down to signal, signal, signal. If I'm at home all day on wifi, or in an area where I have strong LTE I get good battery life. At work though, it's just awful.

Could you compare your sot time at home Vs. Your sot when you're at work with bad signal ?

I honestly don't have a good comparison b/c I've been keeping my phone on airplane mode at work now. My work is really restrictive on phone use b/c we deal with sensitive information. I do remember that my phone would go down to around 50% only using it on my lunch break though. I'll keep an eye on my time while I'm off though over the next couple days.

Thanks. I'd be interesting in order to find out once and for all if the signal is really our battery killer here.
When you said bad signal, what do you mean though ? 1 bar or 2-3 bars ?

So on average... do you feel like your phone from turn it on to getting down to under 10% is somewhere around 11 hours?

Good news: People more capable than me in our on-line community can help you figure out some tweeks in the configuration...cause there is just no way this is the as good as it gets.

Are you guys on a S8 or a S8 plus...please include which one you using. Guessing you are on an S8?

S8 Plus here.
For me the difference in price for the bigger screen and battery was a no-brainer, especially considering the small form factor vs. Screen size of both models. The Plus really isn't physically big or inconvenient and easily fits in any pocket.

Signal is only one of many contributing factors when it comes to battery drain. Remember that everyone will have different usage and install different apps (which consume power differently). In regards to signal, when it's weak the cell radio bumps up power in order maintain communication resulting in increased power draw.

Yeah but I'm a heavy heavy YouTube watcher and look at my time. I don't play games though so idk. That could be hurting others times.

Best battery life I've ever experienced, I game and occasionally watch videos and am amazed on how the battery hasn't even budged after a 20 minute session.

I too think the people with bad battery life are probably getting killed by signal. None of my verizon phones last long when I am in a specific area with bad signals.
