I woke up this morning and my s8+ had not charged and had a message that said there was moisture in the charging port. My phone had been nowhere near water, so I tried the car charger that came with it. That didn't work either. Upon closer inspection I was able to see that the usb port had melted a little over night. What now? I called Samsung and they were no help.

Welcome to the forum. Well, that really sucks. Hopefully you were using the Samsung charger, so I would take it to your carrier's store and see what they say. Personally, I only use wireless charging, but there have been other posts concerning the moisture in the port message.

Ouch. That's definitely not good.

If you were using a Samsung charger, it's very likely that you could get an RMA.

As PJ said, check your carrier store and see what options you have.

Thanks for the advice. I was using the charger that came with the phone so hopefully something can be done and that the phone is still safe. I went and bought a wireless charger and the phone still charges so I guess that's something.

That should be repaired under warranty. Perhaps call back and request a supervisor

A phone that's hot enough to melt is also hot enough to start a fire. I'd suggest reporting this to the news media to insure that Samsung addresses the problem with appropriate urgency, instead of sweeping it under the rug.

Maybe I missed something, but why not exchange if possible. It should still be under warranty. If not, insurance claim?

Take it back to your carrier, they will swap it out under the manufactures warranty. It should cost you a cent.

This is new...

If I had to guess, something shorted the usb plug as it was charging. A liquid maybe, or a piece of metal. The phone itself didn't get hot but rather the "point of short circuit" in the socket got very hot. This could be considered user damage since the user didn't ensure the ports were kept clean. Still, this is a first I have seen in a long while.

Samsung is NEVER any help.
Be DAMN glad it wasn't a Samsung household appliance.

Get a wireless charger until the Google Pixel 2 comes out.
Geez who had a Samsung household appliance then? I was really happy with the way Samsung Australia reimbursed me for all my covers and protectors that I'd bought with my note 7.

Samsung should be taking things like this very serious after what happened last fall with the Note 7.

I have a Samsung Family Hub refrigerator. Samsung took excellent care of me when I had trouble with the door sensor

I am also having problem with charging port. The type c cable plug doesn't enter fully into charging port of my S8 phone (~1mm remains out). Result is loose charging port. The cable is original. Same cable plug enters fully into the charging port of Samsung A7 hence connection is not loose. In my country I don't have warranty services.
