Generic Battery Charging

I was thinking about buying a cheap battery off of ebay. From other threads, I know that these won't charge in the phone with the current software. Is there any way to turn off this detection by software? I mean, do any new ROMs or kernels bypass this protection?

Most of the new EC10 kernels have the non-OEM battery patch worked into them.

Both are slightly different. They allow charging through the phone. Ive been using imnuts' 50mV undervolt kernel for a while with no problems.
