Gestures or the buttons...?

I definitely prefer the buttons and I have it set up under Nova Launcher so the buttons are not shown on the homepage but they come up automatically when I'm within apps and other pages

I tried the gestures on my brother's S9 Plus.
As bad as Google's implementation is, it's far better than this janky, broken system, where the haptics feel broken.

Never got this to work properly, how did you manage it?

I like the new gestures! It didn't take long to get used to them because I was already hiding the navigation bar and swiping up to show it.

I'm using 100% guestures without HINT where the bars showed. After few days of using, and now automatically swip at certain location. LOVE IT!

I agree the gestures are easy to use. I don't need the hint bars for guidance

I LOVE the new update, i think it has pulled me away from Nova and any other 3rd party Launcher, but i keep going back and forth with the nav bar options. i like how the screen looks with the gestures, but i'm a creature of habit, i'm so use to the buttons. what is your preference?

Feburary 1st was the update for Att in Monterey Ca. I have been waiting for what seemed like for ever! And it was worth the wait. Love it on the 9 plus! So much better than the last Oreo!

I am not a fan yet on my Note 9. Swipe this swipe that. Ok am used to buttons too. I will say i hate the goofy looking icons. Wish i had the old ones back. Anybody know how? Not a fan of this One UI or whatever it is. Changed the look of my phone again darn it. Stop changing our stuff...Bill

Because I was already swiping up to bring the hidden nav bar back into view I've found the gestures incredibly natural. Definitely poor experience with Samsung Pay but took it off the home screen with no other concerns.

I've become a big fan of the Samsung theme store. Even if you don't want to theme every aspect of your phone, they have some very nice icon packs and many are free.

Took the plunge and I am so loving the gestures. No more navigation bar for me.

I've been having issues being able to switch back to the previous app I was looking at and then to switch back to the other app I had opened and was looking at. Very frustrating. Someone suggested an app called One Hand Operation+ and now no issues switching back and forth between apps.

All in all it didn't take me long to feel comfortable using the gestures in Pie. It feels natural.

I used gestures the first couple of days, and hate them. I really wish we still had the option to use and then hide the buttons - there was no reason to eliminate that that I can figure.

If I wanted an iPhone X, I would have bought one.

Seems they really are trying to push people into the gestures.

Can you explain the swipe right? I have tried and it does nothing for me.

Turn of favorites in recent app menu it makes it work a little smoother make sure you turn off Samsung pay on home screen then all have do is swipe right on the middle line

CHANGING APPS BY SWIPING:

I'm responding to multiple questions on this as it was annoying me, too. I loved the double tap recent apps to switch quickly between two apps.

With gestures (and I have the bars showing), while in app one, and wanting to switch to app 2, on the MIDDLE bar swipe towards the RIGHT. So what is usually a swipe UP on middle bar taking you to home, you will do a swipe right and that will switch your apps.

I hope this helps.

ETA: I do NOT have Samsung Pay turned off. I can swipe up from my home screen to access Samsung Pay. The swipe right on the middle bar is when you are actively in app one (or two) and want to get back to app two (or one). I hope this makes sense. It's a little confusing trying to explain it.
