Gingersnap Root Utility (one-click ROOT!!!) Multi-Platform

I would delete and try to re-download the file.

Also, are you copy and pasting each line?

I'm currently stuck in the "executing exploit" stage.. It's been a good 15 min now. I'm kinda scared if I do anything I'll end up with a brick lol. And i do have all my apps that can be transferred to the card on it, as well as music, if that helps any. Any idea what I should do from here??

Does this work on other devices/carriers? I ask because a friend just got an LG phone on Metro PCS and of course he would like to root it. I don't know the exact model of the phone he has but it looks almost the exact same as the Optimus S.

If the Optimus M (MetroPCS) is running Android 2.2.2 then yes. If it's still on 2.2.1 then MAYBE.

Rooting Optimus M now. Seems like it has been "Executing exploit" for 30 minutes or so. It does say "this could take awhile" but about how long did it take for most people to complete?

I was more or less wondering if it was possible that you made a typo.

Ichihollow pointed out I was missing spaces but that's it. I'm copying the instructions from the xionia recovery page. But unlike when I rooted my phone, I use this one click process. Like I said she has root but is fully stock I wanted to put the custom recovery so I could put drew's stable on.

There have been a couple of questions about this program not working with OS X. Because no answers or advice have been posted, I am guessing that the Mac OS X version does not work. I have seen no confirmations anywhere that it does work.

You mean other than the fact that it works every time I've used it?

Most issues with Gingersnap come from user error. I wouldn't release a piece of software that just flat out didn't work.

Sometimes it can take a few tries.

Quick Question. I am trying to download the Drivers but I dont see anything in the USB driver list about the LG Optimus S. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

PS Ive only had an android for 3 days so Im brand new...go easy on me

There is a tool that is in the how to root if you did the ota update calles kp500 its an lg tool it will update your drivers.

1) Install the LG Mobile Support Tool (
mobile-phone-support.jsp
) - the KP500 tool uses this to write the firmware to your phone

I hope the link comes up I'm doing this from my phone.
By the way if this helps thank the devs not me I'm just passing this on, and they did ALL the work and they are awsome.

Here are the drivers for your phone, install this BEFORE you plug your phone into a usb port :)

Optimus S drivers.exe

here is the one from LG ( BOTH OF THESE ARE THE SAME)

Regarding MacOSX ...there are two unanswered messages regarding the Gingersnap Root Utility not seeing any devices when the phone is connected to the computer, the same issue I am having. I asked if anything needs to be done other than download the utility, restart and connect your phone with USB debugging enabled, and click root. Every time I've tried this, and I've tried dozens of times, it does not see any device attached. MacBook Air, OS X 10.6.8, Sprint Optimus S. So any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like an issue with the Mac os honestly. The program isn't supposed to recognize the phone, its the os responsibility to take care of drivers, etc when a device is plugged in. I'm not talking about mass storage/sdcard either... You need to make sure that the computer is prepared to support the interaction between the USB device and the program.

Also, try another USB port on your computer.
