Global Phone?

Well, I believed Storm 2 was unlocked, but when I called Verizon, I was given a whole long step-by-step procedure on how to to unlock it and be able to accept a third-party GSM SIM. I didn't have a need and chance to do this yet, but, still, what gives?

just tried this with my old verizon sim card and it is not working. i tried it in different modes but none of them worked. it is possible that verizon deactivated this sim card when i switched from phones from blackberry to rezound, since active t-mobile sim card was working fine. i'm waiting for some input from people with more technical knowledge than mine)

It was deactivated. I had verizon unlock several global phones i had, and a while later, the sim card was deactivated.

And then, what do these people offer if just inserting a SIM does it?

HTC Rezound Unlock - HTC IMEI UNLOCK

Basically a scam. If the rezound was sim locked, then putting in a different carrier sim would not allow calls.

Note that it says, if you already unlock the phone but pay anyways, you won't get a refund. However, if you want to waste your money, be my guest.

This makes sense. When I called VZW to unlock my BB, they told me that if ever wanted to use it in the US again, I'd have to call back and reactivate the SIM.

I didn't get data. The connection shows "EDGE" for both tmo and att so I suspect that data is possible, but i didn't want to mess with the APN. from the xda thead, it's possible, but one person notes unstable.

Cool, thanks for testing!

Now we just need somebody to test with a "foreign", European SIM. Most likely, I'll buy/rent one before my April trip, but, hopefully, somebody does it sooner.

The problem is that the European sim would need to have US service in order to test it out in the states. Otherwise, it would just show no connectivity. I tested out a overseas sim, but it had no connectivity in the states, so it didn't make a difference.

I have a Telestial sim that I will try tonight or tomorrow. It has allowed me to get data and voice service in the US previously on unlocked Verizon world phones. More soon....

Then what about a so-called Global SIM. Wouldn't it be expected to connect in the States, too?

i decided to call verizonsupport to ask about global features and was told that 4G sim card has GSM capability and should be working in 3G mode overseas once the mode is switched to Global or GSM. It's quite possible that the rep had no idea what she was talking about and there's no way to test it without going overseas.

No, the verizon global sim doesn't work in the US, or at least I never was able to get it to work on my global phone in the US. It did work internationally though.

I had in mind a non-Verizon Global SIM. I've never had a need to use such a thing in the States, but, logically speaking, it should work here. Shouldn't it?

A non verizon global sim should work, if the sim has service contract with gsm providers in the US. It just depends on the sim you buy. Keep in mind that it would be cheaper to buy local sims rather than using a global sim.

For those who were able to make calls with Rezound and a T-Mobile SIM, on what GSM frequency did your phone activate?

I'll be travelling international next week. If anybody wants me to test anything just let me know. As of right now, I am bringing a borrowed ATT Nexus S with ATT sim and global data plan. The place I am going has CDMA service available but the ATT sim I'm bringing is on an old plan with unlimited data. I will bring the Rezound with me and test out a local sim there as well as the ATT sim that will be in the Nexus.

Let me know what else y'all would like tested.

Thanks for doing this and eagerly awaiting your results! Only thing I can think of is to see if you can get not just voice, but also data? (and if so, how fast)

I emailed TravelSIM in the UK, gave them the phone model, and their quick response was that it wouldn't work. However, I seriously doubt that they knew anything about Rezound, specifically.

Only commenting to be subscribed. I want to know how great this phone is. Looking forward to your report the.
