I have all of the accounts set to Active Sync in their settings...

So here's the weird thing I'm seeing.

I have 3 Gmail accounts (personal, work, and family) and one IMAP account (work). I set up the 3 Gmail accounts in the Gmail app, and the IMAP one in the email app, with the email app set to poll every 5 min.

If I send email to one of the Gmail accounts, I will only get notified if that's the account currently active in the Gmail app. I.e., whichever account was last opened in the Gmail app, that's the one that will notify if it gets an email. Because there's no unified Gmail account, it seems that notification only works with the last Gmail account accessed by the app. Does that sound plausible? If so, it's a drag. I guess I could consolidate my Gmail accounts (I don't like have 3, anyway)...

That was my understanding too. I've done a factory reset 3 times now and it goes through the setup requiring gmail info, I enter it in, it calls verizon to activate and finishes up. I enter the gmail app, never touching the email app, and everything is set to sync.

So I open gmail, through firefox, on my pc and my mobile me account in safari. I send an email from me.com to gmail and wait. It pops into my inactive firefox window almost instantly, within seconds of sending, and then droid gets it in a few minutes. Now here's the real test. Once droid gets the first test message, I send a new one that I have queued up and I watch as it appears in my inactive firefox (I've not touched firefox at all) window within seconds but takes almost 5 minutes exactly to reach droid.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong and verizon is clueless as well.

okay, to test my theory that i had above. (look above to find it)

i emailed myself from my hotmail account with NOTHING else looking for gmail aside from my phone.

sent and got the message alert in about 5 seconds on the phone.

now, i sent another message with gmail open in the web browser.

sent, and the browser caught it right away, and about 2 minutes later the phone found it.

SO, i think i'm at least partially right in the general principle as to why some people are getting it pushed where other people don't seem to.

it seems like the phone works in a push sense for new UNDELIVERED mail, which is somehow marked as not having being sent anywhere where you have been alerted.

so when it does a poll and finds nothing that is undelivered (since something else, be it a blackberry or a browser window) it doesn't send you anything

it seems to sync everything regardless of weather it has been delivered or read at a slower rate, so later when it pulls from the account, it syncs everything, and since you haven't read the mail in your browser window, it shows up as unread.

anyone care to show me where i could be wrong? it seems to make sense to me and has (at least in my very unscientific test) worked.

i tried this and i am still not getting a notification on my phone unless i manually refresh on my phone. do i have a setting wrong somewhere???

I go to settings > accounts and sync >under manage accounts my gmail account is set "sync is ON"

is there another setting that i am missing? thanks

I was also not getting notifications until I set up the email icon one. After setting that one up with the gmail account I now get them.

For the people having this issue: Do you all have Advanced Task Killer / Task Killer installed?

I have ATK, but I took the check mark off of gmail and email. Before I replaced my first droid for other reasons I had a gmail account set up and I got the first couple of emails and then NOTHING all of today. All of my settings were good to be getting emails and I saw them online (on the comp). I hit refresh and a lot of other things and it never worked.

Seems to work now that I've replaced my first droid, but maybe there's some sort of issue...

I am no longer having the issue after disabling ATK (COMPLETELY). Can others try to confirm.

Ok so I'm still having the issue with that one email account. I sent a test email to my 5 accounts and 4 of them worked, 1 of them is still not working. Nerts. I uninstalled ATK and tried to send a few tests, still no luck.

Did you do a battery pull / restart your phone? That's what did it for me (after shutting down ATK).

Ok, so I uninstalled ATK, then per your suggestion I removed the battery and put it back in. Still no luck! I know there are 2 emails in my gmail inbox (I haven't checked them yet on the comp either, but I know they are there since I sent them). I hit refresh and everything is set to sync. Still no luck with these emails!

I went through the same thing. Very similar. I have been testing all night. Seems to be working consistently now. I am worried that I will wake up in the AM with no emails though because it will have stopped sync'ing. hmmm.

just sent me an email from my hotmail account (on PC) to my gmail. Phone received it in 10 seconds.

You try syncing through settings --> accounts and sync rather than just Gmail --> refresh?

Yup, I tried the "sync now" option in accounts + sync and refresh and no luck.

Weird update. So I went into the one problem account. When I clicked view labels I clicked on all mail and poof there was all my mail. It all had labels that said "inbox" but for some reason they're not showing up in the inbox nor am I getting notification about these. Any thoughts? Is this what other people are experiencing?

This seems to be an ongoing issue for some people. I'm having the same issue I will only receive Gmail and that is Gmail not email app in the all mail label. It does not go to the inbox and does not give a notification. Any help with this would be appreciated. It would seem to be a setting is off but cannot figure it out.

Yup this is happening. I posted this on the google forum and like 5 other people have posted the same results. I've also noticed that if I switch around to different labels when I hit the back button sometimes it will just pivot and keep going back and forth between two screens. I hate to say it, but I think we'll have to wait until the update (one month from today hopefully)

Yeah I've searched all over the forums and have had no luck on anyone knowing why this happens to some of us. Hopefully somene will be able to get a solution for it. Not a huge issue for me coming from the S1 just an annoyance. Especially since I put my Gmail account for contact on selling my storm.
