Here is a picture between the Pixel 2 XL and the original Pixel XL:

The 2 xl doesn't seem to have deeper and more vivid colors than the old xl even though both displays are oled. I also noticed that the v30's p-oled display is more vivid than the 2 pixel.//uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171015/5db13043803495ae933bd82e780249e4.jpg
My wild guess is that the differences here (less saturated colors) might be the result of Google designers/engineers to produce a color-accurate display. I understand this was a thing with the 2 and 2XL.

Don't get me wrong...my eyes prefer the oversaturated colors I'm used to. That's like how over-salted, greasy-*** over-processed food tastes better than healthier, natural food.

The slightest tilt of the phone, the colors change. Never had this happen to any other android device I’ve owned before, including the original pixel.
My Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P both want to call BS on this claim. They both show some color shift even at shallow angles; at severe angles the 6P display looks like a fresh bruise! Nevertheless, both phones have great displays (even tho the N6's is low on nits).

This is not a new phenomenon. It is not the fault of a new circular digitizer. And it is not a sign of cheap materials or shoddy craftsmanship. If anything, it is confirmation that LG won't be stealing the AMOLED crown from Samsung just yet.

Fair enough.

I did try portrait on both cameras (front and back). <snip> On the front facing camera though, as I was taking a selfie, I did not notice the blur effect when taking the picture.

For an as-yet-to-be-defined reason, the portrait mode on the front cameras are disabled on the store display models. That's why you didn't see the blur. If you try to enable portrait mode on the front camera, the device automatically switches to the rear camera.

Not Version related but since this is a active thread Best Buy is releasing the Pixel 2 & XL on release day the 20th can pick up in stores that day

Release day is supposed to be the 19th, no?

Also, if you're on VZW their stores should have stock on release day as well. I pre-ordered my Pixel for STORE PICKUP the night before and had my phone the next AM without an issue. They were out of the by a day or 2 later but still had the black in stock in my smaller town (1 store, pop'n 100,000).

I think the 19th is the correct date...have a 64GB white coming from Google - ships on the 22nd - OR - I go to the local V store and get a blue on the 19th - decisions -

In all fairness this is LGs second generation mobile OLED while Samsung is on what, 9th or 10th? It isn't exactly fair to expect them to be on the same level. That being said, the display is certainly adequate.

Played with a pixel 2 (store didn't; have the XL) and all I can say is man it felt good in hand. Love they are keeping a small size and getting the same specs as the larger version. Bezels weren't that bad (i forgot about them after about 2 mins with the device.

This is exactly what I was talking about earlier in the thread. Even compared to the standard Pixel 2, the colors look washed out.

Why would google “go for more accurate colors” on the XL but not the regular as someone mentions below? That’s obviously not what’s going on here. There’s something wrong with the XL 2 panel and/or calibration of it. Again, really hope that’s not the case with production units.

Went to a store yesterday! my initial impressions of the Google pixel 2xl! and I compared it to my Nexus 6. I like the pixel 2 XL a lot! one thing I did notice was that while the screen on the 2xl is big, it's still not as big as the Nexus 6. that's good and bad. good for my pocket and hand, lol. bad only cuz for viewing videos, it's not as big as the Nexus 6. so take that for what it is.

Well... I went to Verizon stores the last 2 days to continue my check of the Pixel XL2. If you look back at the first pages of this thread, you will find my opinion about the phone, which many of you disagree with and few others agree with my opinion. Putting that aside, I did not mention the blue tint when the phone is at certain angles, why? because that's software, and google will fix it in no time. They are the software Maestros, so there is no issues with that, but I found that many of you been ******** about it like no tomorrow. However my original statement about the lack of phone premium feel, materials finish, and wow factor are reinforced after my last 2 days visits to Verizon stores. First of all I understand that most of us are Google enthusiast, but having said that, some of you can not cover the sun with a single finger, statements like I put a back cover, IDK about the finish, etc, etc, are plain BS ,IMHO, why? because a $1000 phone are suppose to be the best in all fronts, we can not deny the hardware shortcomings because of the software and updates leadership. Why I will have to settle for an average cheap hardware as a trade for the best software and pay premium price? This phone in my hands feels like a cheap below medium range $300.00 phone, that's unacceptable. Some of you said that the back aluminum panel has a coat of powder coating, I agree with that , but at least they can choose a better quality powder coating finish, been working in powder coating for many years of my life, so definitely that powder coating finish it's not the best to be polite. Look at my avatar and there you will see top notch powder coating. Now about the stereo speakers, my current single speaker Pixel XL sounds much better that the "stereo" LG XL2 speakers, period, way below the quality sound of my real stereo speakers of my HTC M8, I like to hear phone music, with no headphones, hence my complaint, I do have a set of high end headphones, but that's not the point that I discuss, I'm talking about OEM equipped speakers, and in that department they are far away of what I was expecting. I love the phone, but we have to be realistic, not fanatics, and my $1000.00+ expenditure deserves a complete package. One good hardware example is the Essential phone made out of titanium and ceramic, with a proper bezel less screen display, that's what I like for hardware for a top of the line Pixel. Can Google do it? off course they can. Let's see how the Pixel 3 evolves next year. In the meantime my inferior Pixel XL can do a decent job for the next 12 months.
I completely disagree about them not feeling premium. I'm sick of people saying how premium Samsung phones are, But your made of all glass and I'm not interested in fragile phones like that. I think Google did the right thing here

As for the blue tint, It's a LG panel issue, not a software issue.

I just stopped by Verizon, they had a Black XL, Not quite blue and a black. Just going to do a quick list here.

Textured finish feels good
Not quite blue
FAST camera
Snappy UI/apps/web
build quality
Display looked great to me
flat glass on the 5"
speakers sounded good but it was noisy in there

Dislikes
Rounded glass on the XL

Just came back from the Verizon store again. I mean I guess I do see a little bit of blue tint, but it really doesn't bother me. Definitely not enough for me to cancel my order.

The regular 2 could have had the vivid color option turned on, while the xl2 had it off. Without seeing the settings we can't say that something is wrong. (the 2 and 2xl I saw in a Verizon store were tuned almost the same, for example)

The display has a circular polarizer to make it easier to use with sunglasses - not sure if that could be causing some of the off-angle shift in color temperature.
