Go to a Verizon store? Post your thoughts here!

I stopped by the Verizon store on state street in Chicago over lunch today. Both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were on display there. No shoppers even seemed interested, so I almost missed them. I can't speak to the blue hue on the XL, but my first gut impression is that the XL phone looks and feels less premium than the V30 and Note 8 in the hand. By spec, I know it's not thicker than the Note 8, but it felt thicker. The bezel doesn't help, but as you can see in the pick, it makes it look a little old school chunky - so my mind could be playing tricks on me.

The screen color popped nicely, but having owned a 1st gen Pixel XL, I didn't play too much with the software. I took a quick snapshot in that darkly-lit room and I think the camera definitely handles it quite well. Not surprised because it's a Pixel, but it performed better in that lighting than the V30 in the display next to it. To be honest, I'm not a Samsung fanboy by any means, but my current S8+ and the Note 8 on the stand nearby in the store both feel better in the hand to me.

I only had a few minutes, but work right across the street from the store, and would be willing to go back and look for anything specific.

They're gorgeous... This is bad. 😂

I just stopped by and checked them out. Google messed up bad with this display. I had the note 8 for 2 weeks and that display DESTROYS the 2XL. My Pixel XL's display even has better colors and sharpness. The display is #2 behind software for me when judging a phone. I'm not happy. If I'm paying $900 for a phone, it better be damn near perfect.

stopped by and checked them out. there both seriously good. I prefer the smaller offering myself. hands down premium feel. display on the xl2 can be fixed with a software update I wouldn't be worried about it. and if you are then simply return it

In addition to the 6P was being made by LG...Those bootloops occurred after a specific update.

The 6P was made by Huawei, but they did get similar bootloop issues (it happened to mine) like the LG-made 5X.

I'm heading to the VZW store now to check these devices out and see what the hoopla is about with the screens

Called another Version store display yes ok drive 20min to store ,girl says no display you want to pre-order? another employee steps up and points me to the Pixel 2 display ,first employee says she was on vacation and just got back not aware of what's up but still wants to sell me a phone.
Enjoyed viewing the phones and left happely knowing im not a Verizon coustomer and would half to deal with to that.
Unrelated to purchasing and using a phone on a different network of course.

So I had a quick hands on with both of the phones. I was kind is supervised with just how wide the 2xl is in the hand. The side bezels on the 2xl are actually thicker than that of the two or the original pixel. with a 18 by 9 display. After first impressions I find myself looking more at the pixel 2. I wish I could get the panda color scheme or the kinda blue unlocked. I will go for another more extensive hands on at a later date then decide if I want to buy it

So I decided to drop in at Ann Arbor's only corporate Verizon store and played with the display unit for a little while. I did not have much time so I only checked out the Pixel 2 XL. I especially wanted to check out how bad this display issue was. Well, I could not see any defects whatsoever. The display did not seem "washed out" to me. It was as good as the display on my original XL if not better. Also I could not see any bluish tints or bands. Either that unit did not have any display issues or I have very bad eyes. (Yes, I wear strong glasses).

The fluidity again is top notch. The smoothest I have ever found on an android phone. Just like the original XL.

I did not like the Squeeze for Assistant feature, though. The squeezable part is not around the middle of the phone (since there is the volume rocker in that spot) but rather on the lower half of the phone. Felt kinda uncomfortable. But that's just my personal preference / experience. Not necessarily a bad thing.

So, if the phone I am receiving tomorrow is anything like the display unit I saw at the store, I will be more than happy.

Here are some pics I snapped of the phone. But these pics do not do any justice to the phone. The phone is much better IRL. And the streaks only appear in the photos. For some reason I did not know how to get the streaks to not appear in the pics.

I went to a Verizon store and saw the pixel 2 XL and immediately had buyer's remorse. The washed out colors on the display are immediately noticeable blue tint is there but doesn't really bother me. I just can't get past the lack of color on that display. It's just downright awful. I was really looking forward to this one though. Pre-order cancelled. I hope Google will go back to using AMOLED displays for next year's model and just drop LG.

Clarification here: although LG's display does not use the AMOLED marketing name, it is still an Active Matrix OLED display, just like Samsung's. LG just has way less experience in making mobile OLED displays than Samsung does.

I compared my XL to the 2XL. 1st gen was definitely more muted (both screens at full brightness). No pix taken, but in the camera app, gen 1 was literally murky. The new one was essentially exactly what I was seeing in real life.

So while I'm disappointed that the reviews are describing issues with the screen, it sure seemed to me an improvement over the original. Having loved that screen for the year makes me confident things'll be fine.

Really, the biggest problem I have is one of ego. I like to have the "best", and though many reviews say the 2 is the "best android available today", the fact that they consistently deduct points for the screen means it probably isn't the best screen.

Someday, I'll grow up.....

Finally was able to get in to see the new pixels. Now I want one. :)
Really only interested in the small one. Screens looked fantastic on both and couldn't see any of the blue tint on either one. Really liked the light weight as I dislike heavy phones. I usually carry in a shirt pocket and heavy don't cut that.
I liked the black and thought the backside had a little grippiness to it. I'd put it in a minimal case anyway.
I like the speakers although it's hard to judge quality in the somewhat noisy store. There was nothing about it I did not like. I do have concerns about battery life tho and I know Google is saying you can get 7 more hours with a 15 min charge. That could be a stretch but I guess we'll find out soon enough. With my HTC 10 I need to top it off before days end and it can get sort of annoying always having to do that. So hoping for good battery reports from some real users, not paid reviewers.

Went back to the Verizon store to get more time with the pixels. I am going with the smaller of the two pixels. The xl just doesn't justify the $200 price increase for me. It is much wider than i prefer for one handed use.

Something is fishy at verizon store? Post your thoughts here!

I went in one and the XL wasn't charging so it was dead. played with the pixel 2 it looked and felt great. the XL2 is a definite upgrade over my 6P

I went to 2 version stores where I live and they both had "charging" problems with the display for the 2xl. I thought it was weird. Told them I'd like to see it powered up. Then the version guy argued with me about the phones were exactly the same and I should just use the smaller one. I told him that he needs to do his research and that they were different screens. He refused to help me with the xl
