Re: Demo units should be in VZW stores 10/12

I just left my local Verizon store and they did not have a floor model for the phone. They did say they have some in stock, but he didn't know when they would be displaying them.

I did play around a little with an LG v30. How does that compare to a pixel 2 XL in size?

While the the XL 2 doesn't look much larger, in hand, I think it felt significantly bulkier than the V30, which I think felt pretty good in hand for a bigger phone. It didn't feel much bigger than my S7.

openwheelracing,I was concerned when reviewers said Pixel 2 has a coating over alluminum. I cannot understand that decision either.

However, I am not buying Pixel 2 for premium feel. I am buying for the Android experience and camera. Also the inflated trading value of my Pixel was the final push I needed cause I am still having Bluetooth issues.

openwheelracing, premium feel is a must on a $1000.00 phone, I do have with the current XL the Android experience and camera, and luckily the Bluetooth issues been solved for me few months ago. As I said in my original post I pre ordered the phone in October 4, but after today I decided against. I know that I will miss some of the unique features the phone comes with it, but i will not be able to live on daily basis with a such a cheap phone finish and feel. LG is not known for offering top of the line premium finish on their phones, that's really sad, because Google is targeting Apple, and quite frankly their phones hardware quality and finish are superb, miles ahead of the Pixel XL2, however I'm an Android junkie and I will no switch to Apple.

During my lunch break today, I happened to pass by a Verizon corporate store at the mall so I stopped in to look at the phones. They had both the Pixel 2 in Kinda Blue and a Pixel 2 XL in Just Black on their display setup. I took some quick photos with my work iPhone so here they are. Forgot to take pictures of the apps that came with it but I did notice some pre-loaded apps such as CNBC, various Verizon apps, etc. already on it. One thing that was obvious to me (coming from a Nexus 6P) was that the stock launcher/fonts on the apps are smaller and rounder than the fonts that was on my 6P (Google Now Launcher, I believe).

I am fine w/ the finish and the build. The phone doesn't have to be sandwiched in glass for me to call it premium :P.

I'm going to put mine in a case, so premium finish makes no difference to me.

I'm not sure I understand the need or desire for a premium "feel". In the end, most of us carrying these devices in cases, which largely negate the "feel" aspect of any device.

I will never understand when people say they need a phone to feel premium. Especially if that premium is glass. I just don't get it. I buy a phone for what's in it, not on it. To each his own I guess.

I can definitely understand than sentiment, and respect anyone who feels that way.

That said, I don't care. I'll have a case on it anyway, so that premium feel for me would last about an hour and then I would never notice it again...

I ended up going to TWO Verizon stores today and neither one had floor models for the Pixel 2. :(

I'd love to have some define what "feel" even means. Does it mean the device has a certain heft in the hand? Because Beats headphones famously included weights in their headphones to make them "feel" premium. garbage headphones, premium "feel".

This video shows the screens of the pixel 2 and xl2. I assume it was shot today at a verizon store and you can see what I said previously about the smaller pixel having better viewing angles than the xl. Kind of disappointed since i ordered the xl.

To Almeuit and Mike Dee, I was referring to the aluminum material not the glass. The Ferrari of the phones are suppose to excel in every department, software which is by far the best and hardware as well. JMHO. Thank you.

Won't a shorter device always appear to have better viewing angles than a longer device? Isn't this just a trick of geometry? That aside, how many different angles do most people view their phone form?

From what i saw today even at the slightest angle you can notice it on the xl 2. Not even my u11 which has a larger screen than the regular pixel did that. If you hold your phone with both hands and tilt it even slightly you will notice it with the xl. Dont get me wrong i am still keeping my order of the xl 2 i just would prefer it not do that.

Interesting. Luckily the Pixels come with a 30 day return policy on the pre-orders (I believe?).

I wasn't referring specifically to your comments. I'm not the least bit concerned about how the phone feels except ergonomically. I speak for myself when I say I don't understand the obsession with how a phone feels unless it's uncomfortable. That's just me.

Eh... To each their own I guess. While I do admire a great build that is definitely not the deciding factor for me. Software + Camera are my go to.
