Fit/Finish:
Read above posts re aluminum/glass/plastic etc.. I wasn't really thinking about the "feel" of the phone. So my impression is as though I was seeing the phone with no pre-conceived notion: I liked it. It felt solid, had nice heft, and those parts in touch with my hand felt fine (I didn't sense any plastic, so if it's there, so be it).
As expensive as it is, you have to recall that it's $100 more than the original. It's not like 50% more. I'm not surprised there isn't a great difference in feel overall, but felt it was definitely "better".
Also, I liked the edges of the screen. Kinda like the S8 with the slope of the glass heading to the side frame. That certainly felt "high end", though it won't matter since mine will be in the case.
Size:
Essentially the same as the original XL. Knew that, cause my XL fits nearly perfectly into the 2's case. It snaps in and holds, though there are slight gaps at the edges.
Felt significantly thinner. This is most likely due to the curved borders at the edges of the screen. Confirming this is that my XL and XL2 cases are essentially the same thickness.
Screen:
Beautiful. I was stunned at how much crisper it was than my XL.
Performance:
Opened apps less delay than my XL. Opened a web page on both at the same time. My XL showed the rotating circle on a white page a couple of 10ths of a second before displaying the page. The 2 opened the page in a heartbeat without showing any "I'm loading" circle. Does it matter? Oh, sure, after around 82,000 web pages (probably a year or two from now) I'll have saved a whole 14 minutes of my life. But it does feel better.
Camera:
I didn't shoot any pictures, but I did compare the 2 phone screens while in the camera app. This was very interesting. The colors on my XL were somewhat muddied/yellowed COMPARED to the 2. The 2 was almost spot on with reality. Text at a couple of feet was clearer too.
All in all a an improvement over the original. If you're a couple of years out of date you're going to be ecstatic. Trading last years like I am? Matter of opinion. I'm going to love it, and with the Google exchange is more than worth it. That phone is worth less than $400 on the open market and the new one is costing me $450. It's like leasing the car. I have only paid the depreciation on the original.
