Go to a Verizon store? Post your thoughts here!

The 2 and 2XL were tuned almost identical at the Verizon store I went to. Only noticable differences were screen size and blue tint.

I wonder if regular 2 has the same feature for polarized sunglasses.

I personally think Pixel2 feel great compared to the Samsungs and all other glass back phones. I don't know why people think glass back equals premium either. Only downside is the 2XL design looking odd. It hasn't grown on me...yet. I don't understand the reason behind the curved edges that elongated the side bezels. Stupid design imo.

Just got back from VZW corporate store. Saw both and the other offerings. Actually, had to hunt to find a V30. Trip convinced me to just keep my Pixel 1, 128gb. Nothing of the 2s jumped out to me that I need a new phone. Like smaller phone and the Pixel 2 just doesn't have enough difference for me to drop $650.00 to upgrade.

if google wasnt giving me $410 for my pixel XL, I might not switch but since they are, I feel the IP67, larger screen real estate/less bezels, better camera, squeeze assistant, stereo speakers, faster processor, are all reasons why the one item I use the most everyday by far for almost everything I do for both work and personal life, should be upgraded....

Curved edges allow for swiping gestures more easily. It's been a thing for a while with Google, the 2XL just has larger curves than some past devices.

Well it's very interesting hearing everyone's first impressions. I'm still leaning toward going smaller again this year and having a break from the XL. Looking forward to the reviews this week.

What gesture are you talking about? 2016 Pixels don't have curved screens. I have no clue what you are referring to.

I had a chance to check out the Pixel 2 and 2XL at my local store. I'm currently an Nexus 6 person fyi. At first glance the Pixel 2 seemed much larger than I expected so I had to look at the blue one to see what I would be missing in color. lol Then I looked at the XL and noticed that the XL screen didn't seem as bright or vivid as the regular pixel. I kept looking at the XL and felt as though it was dimmer or washed out like a blue tint/wash that's being described. I couldn't really figure it out only that it was slightly more annoying to look at while the regular pixel's display was more inviting. I was impressed with the sound and found it nearly comparable to my N6. I was also satisfied with the size when comparing it to my N6. The verdict is still out until my preorder arrives on whether the screen will be a make or break.

I went to my local corporate Verizon store and immediately found the very prominent Pixel 2 display. They had a Google Home speaker playing music pretty loud, and it actually sounded pretty good. I found that to be pretty impressive, but I digress.

I found the larger of the 2 phones and started playing with it. I was messing with it for a good 5 minutes before I realized it was an OG Pixel XL, not a Pixel 2 XL. In my defense, I've never held a Pixel of any sort before today.

I asked the CSR if they had any of the 2XLs, he said they did in the back. It turns out that this particular store couldn't get the XLs to charge through their security dongles.

Once he brought out the Pixel 2 XL I was able to inspect it, and I did in fact see the blue tint. I strongly disagree with those who say it appears at "the slightest angle". I would estimate that the tint didn't change until I brought the display to at least 15 degrees off normal. Would the blue tint bother me? Not even a little. When I'm looking at my phone I look straight at it. Would it bother some? Well, obviously it does.

In my mind, the display is in fact behaving as a polarized display would, and I believe that the circular polarizer is what's causing this phenomenon. Of course, if this bothers you it probably won't matter what is causing the issue, but that's what it appears to be to me.

So the bottom line is, if this bothers you you'll have to rethink your purchase of an XL. I personally don't think it will bother most people.

Apart from the change in tint, the display looked fabulous to me. It was bright, crisp, sharp, the colors nicely defined, not over saturated. Close to perfect in my estimation.

I didn't have any issues with the feel of the coating on the aluminum back, the entire phone felt plenty premium to me, though it's not really a fair test since all of the various cables and security dongles were still attached. I loved the feel and the look of this phone.

The front facing speakers sounded great. They won't replace my home speakers anytime soon, but they sounded great for speakers in a phone.

My experience did not make me want to cancel my pre-order for even for a femtosecond. If anything I'm more eager than ever to get my phone in my hands.

If the blue tint is going to be an issue for you then you may want to go see a phone in person.

How did you not know what the 2 XL looks like? Lol.

I think only a couple people claim they see no color shift whatsoever. Almost all see the blue tint with subjective thumbs up or down.

For those who saw no blue tint, I wonder if they were mistaken the XL as 2XL. Also I wonder if their 2XL had blue filter turned on.

Blue tint issue aside, I wonder how each display work when polarized sunglasses are used.

No mistake here....two different stores. No blue tint whatsoever...maybe it varies according to store and display lighting.

I finally figured out that I wasn't holding the Pixel 2 XL because the phone I was holding didn't have front facing speakers and didn't have the search bar at the bottom.

My Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P both want to call BS on this claim. They both show some color shift even at shallow angles; at severe angles the 6P display looks like a fresh bruise! Nevertheless, both phones have great displays (even tho the N6's is low on nits).

This is not a new phenomenon. It is not the fault of a new circular digitizer. And it is not a sign of cheap materials or shoddy craftsmanship. If anything, it is confirmation that LG won't be stealing the AMOLED crown from Samsung just yet.
Fair enough
Then again....

All this talk of blue displays sent me off to a nearby Verizon store, and I now get what you folks are worried about: that is one significantly blue display from pretty much every angle. The display even looked blue as I was walking up to the demo models. And, yes, the 2XL's display is undeniably bluer than the display on the regular Pixel 2. It was also bluer than the display of the V30 I looked at at T-Mobile later.

I took a look at the at the 2 XL's Settings, and, FYI, Adaptive Brightness was OFF but the Vivid Colors setting was ON. Turning Vivid Colors to OFF didn't seem to do much of anything far as I could tell, but I didn't get a lot of time with the phone.

I'll be eager to see if this display tint is mentioned in reviews. And it'll be a comfort to find out that there are some sort of granular color controls buried in those settings or in developer options. Or to find out that Verizon jacked up the bluing for the sake of its own demos.

On the flip side, though, you people complaining about the phones lacking a "premium feel" are ga-ga. The phones definitely feel like aluminum body phones; they just feel like practically weightless aluminum phones.

I'm cancelling and going back to the N8 as much as I want pure Android experience , I highly dislike a blue screen , I use a blue light filter 24/7 to keep a warmer screen so much easier on the eyes.
Its a very distinctive blue not necessarily at extreme angles easily noticeable

Something must be wrong with the displays you all are seeing at your local stores. I don't see this blue tint at all.

I've tried turning and looking at it from numerous angles, to the point that the reps came and thought something was wrong with the demo unit.

Hate that some of you are getting bum units to view.

So then how would any tint on any phone then be an issue for you?

I saw it today at my Verizon store and was damn impressed. Earlier today I bought an iPhone 8 plus and playing with the XL shook me enough to have left the iPhone in the box because I might not want to open it. Probably going to take it back tomorrow 😀

i think to summarize the pixel 2 and 2 XL, if you're wanting the absolute best display and/or latest/greatest hardware/specs, then you may want a N8 or some other premier android phone.
If you want instant security patches/updates/clean stock android and still a great overall phone with other software advantages (google lens, etc), active touch, and a super camera with unlimited, uncompressed cloud storage, etc then maybe the Pixel 2 is for you
I was disappointed last year when my Pixel XL didnt have IP67, yet even Apple added it to the iphone 7 series

First paragraph is pretty confusing.

So you're saying that majority of people complaining about blue tint in this thread that saw the XL 2 at Verizon had bad units? I went to two different stores and they both had the same blue tint that to me is unacceptable for an $850+ phone. The pixel XL last year has a nicer display!

I generally like to give the benefit of the doubt in most cases. Nothing is perfect, and we live in a world/society where we nitpick at the tiniest things because we demand near perfection from consumer products. However, I do agree that the blue tint could be an issue for some people. It definitely has me on the fence. For a second time, I went to Verizon today to play with the new Pixel phones and the XL 2 blue tint was bothersome. Some others may not care or notice and that is fine. Very curious to hear what the official reviewers say.

All that said, I still have not cancelled or changed my Pixel XL 2 order. I have an HTC U11 that is pretty darn good that I have few gripes about, but I am enticed by pure stock (with Nova launcher), enhanced camera, and Google Fi. My U11 is handicapped by ATT's inability to play nice with unlocked phones (visual voicemail, LTE while on a call, wi-fi calling, etc.) and I want to support Google as much as possible.

Well, let's see.

Some are selling it and others aren't. Wouldn't that suggest that setting is wrong with some of the displays?

I'm not saying they aren't seeing the defect. But I didn't.
