Going Back to iPhone 5

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I could care less about widgets myself but thats me. You can put widgets on a jailbroken iPhone by the way. In fact there is very little you can't do on Android that you can't do on a jailbroken iPhone.

Actually there is one thing that you can do on a jailbroken iphone that you cannot do on an Android. On my iphone 5 i can now run Google Now and Siri by simply swiping left or right on the task bar. I now have the best of both worlds :) I like how google bends over backwards to cater to ios device users.

So, basically, you are saying it has Siri and a weak edition of Now?

Sorry, not much of a selling point there.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Its the full version of Google now. What are you talking about?

I have told you before you should read more and post less. You make arguments based on lack of knowledge. Why do you keep trying to defend iOS when you don't know what you are talking about?

"There's a gulf between Android and iPhone because of inescapable realities of each platform. On Android, Google has free reign to do whatever it wants as long as technology and the law allow it. The iOS version does not have that luxury because it must operate within the confines of Apple's rules and the way that iOS is set-up to let apps communicate with each other. The iOS version is also brand new, so there may be some features that have not been completed in time to be released. Regardless of the reason, Google Search for iOS is not a 1-to-1-feature replication of what's seen on Android.

Of course I could jailbreak my iphone as I previously have done, or I could just buy an android phone and be able to do all those things out of the box and still be supported by the manufacturer. For my lifestyle, which is zero personnel time due to a young family, this suits me best.

*sigh* you are right maybe I should read before posting.... Regardless of that I would defend android as much as iOS if I needed to. Don't assume I'm just an apple fanboy.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

The only issue I have with this comment is that someone made a thread that is in and of itself a slam of Android. So even though it is their personal opinion etc. they chose to make a public post about a product that puts it in a bad light. Someone who may be considering buying an Android device may choose not to because of this thread. So, like any public news or post it is up to the public to make their opinions known in order to allow people to see both sides and make an educated decision.

I didn't see it as a slam at all. He listed very specific reasons why he preferred iOS and also listed what he liked about Android. He was only doing the very thing you suggested, trying to educate people. I find threads from people who have owned phones with both operating systems very helpful. I'm currently using iOS and considering buying a One and want to see specific things people like or dislike about each. I can then decide which of these things are important to me and go from there. Several of the things he didn't like about the One are non-issues for me, but by listing specifics I can decide what is relevant to me. Posts that say things like "buy an HTC One you won't be sorry" aren't very helpful to me. I don't believe either Android or iOS is better than the other, it's which one fits a person's needs better.

While I'm ranting, another thing that bothers me is when people talk about the age of the operating system and make it sound like just because something is newer then it's better. If that were the case we'd all be switching from Windows Mobile (which we would all be currently using because it's newer than Android or iOS), to Blackberry's new operating system which is the newest of them all.

I didn't mean to say say slam. The OP was excellent in how they said what they did, but it was based on them not taking the time to setup their phone properly. If someone sees the title of this thread they could make a choice to not buy a new Android phone if they were on the fence.

This may be true except the widgets you add on iOS are nothing like on Android. I'm talking about things like uccw, Zooper widget, Dash clock, power toggles etc. These combined with different launchers make the experience much different for Android users. Even on a jailbroken iPhone you are so limited.

Sorry shouldn't have used the word slam. But my comment was directed to someone saying we shouldn't be continuing to post in this thread. I was just making a point that clarification on why we feel his points are valid or invalid (regardless of whether they are right or wrong) is the purpose of this forum. IMO.

Agreed; I think this could be better titled as "What I like and don't like about the HTC One" or something along those lines.

If somebody makes a decision on which phone to buy based on the title of a post, then they deserve what they get. :)

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

What?s more these forums should be to freely express ones concerns about their devices. If a potential buyer comes and reads the post and comments and is dissuaded, they such is life, if however he bases his purchase on the title as if it were a news article, they said person should stick to dumb phones, pun intended.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I've had my HTC One since last Friday. Personally I love it.

But I can see how someone like my wife, who has an iPhone would hate it. It was a few days of thinking about things differently -- but I am a pretty technical dude, so I just dove in and figured it out quickly.

That being said, I don't know how I'd go back -- I feel like the sky is the limit on what I can get out of this device and the OS. Apple would have to radically change their stance on things like screen size and OS limitations for me to come back to the fold.

Regardless I'm looking forward to both Google I/O and WWDC -- competition is awesome and in the end we all win because of choice.

Me too. I'm waiting to see if Google will announce any new Nexus device (something that's gonna be out in the next couple of months), and what changes KLP will introduce.

Anfdroid does NOT provide a better experience for most people. for example my dad has tried my N4 but he preferred his iPhone 5. just because it is the better experience for you doesn't mean it is for everyone.

Just because your dad preferred the iPhone doesn't mean Android isn't better for "most people". I don't understand how Android can't meet people's needs. When you can alter something very simply to make it however you like it, how is that not creating a better experience? You can set it up so it functions exactly the same as an iPhone, or you can cherry pick qualities of an iPhone and put it into your Android. The only thing I can think of that would be different, would be the messaging that Apple uses. But that is just a matter of adjusting to a new app or two in Android. I refuse to believe 90% of the population isn't smart enough to figure that out. It all comes down to not wanting to try something new. And that's fine, but don't say that Android falls short because someone else is too comfortable to try something else. That doesn't reflect on Android in the slightest.

Also, Apple's ecosystem is pretty thorough in the way everything can sync. But if you spend thousands on Android compatible products like you have on Apple products, the experience would be similar. It's just that Apple has been smart in suckering so many into only buying "Apple Compatible" stuff instead of universal. Again, that shouldn't reflect poorly on Android. Again, I simply refuse to believe that Android can't meet everyone's needs when you can customize everything exactly how you want. I will accept however, that Apple fans simply enjoy their iPhones and the device meets their needs. But don't say Android didn't meet their needs. They didn't try.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

In the past I have switched between x device and then back to iPhone, so much that it was almost a pattern. After owning literally every flagship phone that at&t has offered over the last 24 months I have to say that I have never been more satisfied with a device. The One is fantastic, I particularly love boom sound ... The Quality of the headset when actually talking on the phone is second to none. I am wishing much success to HTC with this device so that they will release an improved version of this device next cycle. It's fantastic IMHO.

When you're switching devices between different OS'es so often, how do you make sure you migrate all your data/contacts/calendars etc? I know that syncing Contacts with your Google Account is one way, but how do other things that you might feel necessary? Thanks

I think the easiest way to set up an android phone for an ex iphone user is to install Nova launcher and remove everything from the phone. Then just add every icon to the screens. Instant iphone without any confusion.
