Could be useful but unfortunately, I fear it will be another battery drainer. I don't even use Google now but that's just me lol

Hopefully it's not a disappointment. Maybe Nougat is coming to Verizon soon also. As for battery drainers I don't know how Apple can leave Siri activated when your phones unplugged and in sleep mode and still not lose more than 1% drain over the course of an 8 hour night. OK Google needs to be plugged in or it won't work. Does that mean it's that big of a battery drain? Not a fanboy of either OS, just SMH a lot. ;)

it's coming to any android device running marshmallow or nougat an has google play services. the bright side is it won't be necessary to wait for ota update from the manufacturers as it's coming through google play services.

Agreed cbreze, on another note, I wish Android would make wakelocks accessible to everyone. The only way to see wakelocks is to root my phone. I don't want to do that. If wakelocks were accessible to everyone maybe that would inspire companies to write better software... Unfortunately wakelocks are only accessible to the ubergeeks 😊

It's coming via an update and a server-side switch.

It's not just on the 10 but on all Androids with Google Play Services that runs at least Android 6.0

Same version here, but it hasn't been updated recently by me anyway. FWIW, This version of play services is the same one that's currently on my MXPE that has been turned off for the past few months.
So server side switch coming soon?

Seems to be available now for Unlocked US. Opened Google and got a prompt to setup my voice and some other stuff.
Still not on mine... I'm unlocked... They seem to be doing it randomly... I've seen some people in Dallas say they have it and others in Dallas with the same versions of everything say they still haven't received an update

Does anyone have the ability to wake your HTC 10 from sleep with an "OK GOOGLE" while unplugged? I've heard in other forums that this works with other devices. I've tried every popular launcher and get nothing in this regard. Even HTC's own OEM Sense launcher won't do it. So to me the bigger question is does this functionality come with the Assistant? I find this to be quite convenient with Siri. Hate to see Apple pulling one over on Google.
If it does indeed work for you which launcher and is it new with the assistant? Thanks

Thanks, but man this is real disappointing. The 10 has been out almost a year so I'm doubtful that HTC will fix this now. So nice to have this functionality without having to touch the phone. I don't get why it works when plugged in but not otherwise. Weak HTC, just weak. Apple rocks this feature. The Samsung edge forum also says it works properly. SMH, just SMH. Bah! Where's the thumbs down?

Not all phones do this.

My Moto Z does not have this ability, even though it has a dedicated language processor. It's presumably made for Moto Voice.

It's not the launcher that gives the function it's the custom ROMs... Most androids phones don't let you do it with the screen off unless it's plugged in...

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read Samsung phones don't do it either, u can just use s-voice with the screen off (I don't actually know, haven't used a Samsung phone in years) but supposedly it can work if your phone has an AMOLED screen but I've only seen pixel users and some Motorola phone users say their phone does it with the screen off

Just noticed I have the assistant now. So far seems mostly like the old OK Google helper to me, just need to work with it I hope. I DO have the option enabled to let it work with the screen off but it does not work. Was hoping it would when I saw the option, but alas it's a no.
To me this just rips so much functionality right out of it.

I don't see what difference AMOLED screens would make. iPhones aren't AMOLED, they work. Some in the S7 forum say it does work with screen off. Phone wakes up with voice.

Yeah, I guess I thought it was an Android OS enabled thing, a Google thing, not a phone manufacturer thing. I really got used to this feature on my iPhone 7 as I use it all the time when I'm not able to touch the phone. It's going to be hard to do without the functionality of it that I may have to wait to come back to my 10. I'm guessing Nougat's not bringing it either.
