Google Assistant on Pixel doesn't support some commands that Now does.

I feel like google rushed the Assistant out the door and should have spent a little more time developing it before releasing the Pixel with the Assistant. My main gripe is at a minimum the Google Assistant should be able to do everything Google Now can do... but that is not the case. Today I tried to say "Ok Google, read last text message"... and it said this feature is not supported yet. That really shocked me... especially since this is a really important feature of hands free driving... which I used all the time with Google Now on my 6P.

Don't get me wrong... I'm really enjoying the Pixel and the Google Assistant but it just frustrating I can't do some simple things Now did. I know Google is constantly improving the Assistant so I'm not worried about this getting added in the future.

Yup - I came across that too. Reading my texts is a biggie for me, and G Now did an awesome job of that.

I see that this is up on Google's radar via their Pixel community.

Hopefully it gets addressed soon.

Other than that, I haven't found anything else. Google Assistant offers tons of stuff G Now never did - and on the Pixel with a good internet connection, the response is amazing!

How do I get Google assistant, or Google now, to give me more information or similar stories to the current web page and looking at?

The only way currently to get the voice version of the Google Assistant on your phone is to get the Google Pixel phone.

As far as Google Now... Most newer android phones have the Google search bar widget which is basically Google Now... For voice detection you need to go into settings and enable it... But experience can very from phones from different manufacturers.

If you want the full Google Now experience download the Google Now Launcher from the play store.

Using my Galaxy S5 running Marshmallow, (waiting for my Pixel XL) I simply depress and hold the home button until a window opens up, with a suggestion for an article, whatever, relating to what I'm currently reading.

Yes, that's how it used to work on my Turbo 2, but with this phone it's simply brings up the Google Assistant waiting for me to say something

After you press and hold the home button, swipe up and you'll be presented with info about the screen you were on.

Oh sorry I didn't realize you meant Google Now on tap... to access Google Now on tap on the Pixel, you press and hold the home button and then slide up before letting go.

Thank you, I forgot that it was called on tap. Yes that's what I was looking for.
