Google bans Huawei:Are you worried?

Go to YouTube and watch the 20 minute video called HUAWEI 60 MINUTES. This explains what Huawei did do wrong, back in 2012 in America. I don't think anyone is saying that their cell phones could spy on people, but their broadband equipment can.

The only thing I can see them guilty of is careless engineering which they do work on when it comes up.

They arent the only company to do it because lots of companies do it. Yeah some have more stingent quality checks and can catch most of these so called "backdoors". Put any other telecom company under the same scrutiny and you'll get similar results

Any broadband equipment can be capable of "spying"

Fact is Huawei have been open, has had to be inspected by various companies and nations, and has passed these checks.

Trump on the other hand, has been asked to pass evidence on, and has never done so, then openly admitted this is all a ploy to get a trade deal done.

Huawei has been admitted back into the SD Association, and I think in the UK the Mate X has appeared back on the 5G list too.

With any luck, hopefully the trade war will end soon.

This seems like good news. Hopefully things get better, little by little.

Let’s stay realistic, Huawei’s 5G tech does have flaws (not unique to it) and the Chinese Gov. using it for not-so-good purposes is not an unlikely one. My view is that these measures are a harsh/brutal and escalating the trade war isn’t going to benefit anyone. Trump’s approach seems to be an ‘all guns blazing’ one...targeting Huawei (kinda understandable) but being indiscriminate, which isn’t good.

The other funny thing is, if you use US 5G tech the US spies on you. If you use Huawei’s the Chinese Gov. will also probably spy on you. The former is more expensive and substantially behind Huawei’s...but a good question is, who do you ‘prefer’ to be spied upon by?

The 5G ‘race’ is important, have no doubt. The US won the 4G one but this time is lagging behind. If they win millions of jobs will be created as well as billions of dollars of extra wealth...which is why they want to win. I’m guessing the benefits for China are similar if they win.

In layman’s terms, this is how ‘revolutionary’ 5G will be:

Using 4G it takes around 6 minutes to download a 2 hour film (approx)...already fast. Using 3G will take an hour (approx). Using 5G it will only take 3 SECONDS.

That’s how fast it is.

Damn my 4G must suck... when I torrent movies on my phone it takes much longer than 6 mins

It’s an approximation...although it shouldn’t be taking over 30mins/1hr.

I guess variations can depend on your carrier.

Well I finally was able to retrieve my data from my Huawei phone in order to send it back. I absolutely loved my Huawei phone for the 3 1/2 weeks that I had it for. Best phone ever. But even before the "trade war" I wasn't getting any updates. So, I decided to return it for that fact alone. But when trying to transfer my SMS texts, I could not transfer using 7 different methods. Huawei really doesn't want you to leave them, unless you switch to another Huawei product. IF you switch to a new Huawei phone, you just use Phone Clone from Huawei. But if the new phone is NOT a Huawei, well good luck. I am a former computer technician and it took me 4 days just to transfer everything.

On a separate note, Huawei was caught in 2012 spying on America with the Huawei Broadband equipment they were setting up all over America in the Obama years. Go to YouTube and watch HUAWEI 60 MINUTES and watch the full length episode. It's not that Huawei "might" spy on us. They already DID spy on us. I don't think anyone is worried that the Chinese can spy on people with Huawei phones. It's broadband and 5G equipment that is the issue and no I don't think the United States should use it.

I personally have nothing to hide, so I didn't mind owning a Huawei phone even if there was a small chance of Huawei spying on me. But getting no updates, even security updates, is the reason why I returned such a nice an affordable phone.

Honestly i haven't come across any android phones that will transfer sms texts unless they have their own software. Huawei comes with HiSuite which backups almost everything including texts and calls. Did you try using the Huawei Hisuite app on whatever phone you're using? In many news source that i came across almost every single one of them said U. S didn't have any proof to show when asked to provide one so Unless CBS actually show some proof and evidence I wouldn't believe them completely.

I agree with you about the SMS transfer thing. Very hard to do that.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

I've had difficulties in the past but when setting up my OnePlus 7 Pro, all text messages transferred over from my Vivo Nex S backup.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

did it come with some sort of apps or software you had to use to transfer them over?

I have transferred SMS AND MMS messages just fine from an iPhone to a Moto G5 Plus. It was flawless. Then I transferred all my texts from a G5 Plus to a G6 Plus and again it was done flawlessly. I had to return the G6 Plus though because it did NOT support USA LTE Bands, and the USA version of the G6 Plus had half the power and half the specs and was $40 MORE than the better G6 Plus.

Then I got a One Plus 6. I see someone else commented that they transferred onto a OP7 with no problems and I had no problems at all transferring my SMS and MMS to my One Plus 6. I didn't like the OP6 and went to Huawei. I used Huawei's app called Phone Clone. It was a little buggy, but I ended up making it work. I had over 2000 songs and the Huawei Phone Clone app kept timing out and disconnecting. So I copied everything over to the Huawei but I transferred my songs using SyncTunes instead of Huawei Phone Clone.

Then I went from a Huawei Mate SE to the Huawei Mate 20 Lite and I used Phone Clone from Huawei to Huawei and had no issues and all my texts showed up in the Messages app. Then I started a return for my Huawei and I needed to copy everything to another phone until my Samsung A50 arrived. I tried transferring to my Motorola G5 Plus and I tried transferring to my One Plus 6. I tried using Huawei's Phone Clone but Huawei is greedy. Even though I was using a Huawei phone, you must be transferring TO a Huawei phone. Finally after SMS Backup and Restore didn't work and Backup+ didn't work, I tried to do it the Google way, but "Setup a Nearby Device" did not work because the Huawei refused to recognize either of the other phones.

Then I read that I could hook my phone into my laptop and try to download a SMS file to my computer. When I hooked up the Huawei Mate 20 Lite to my MacBook Pro, I saw a screen that was a blatant rip-off of iTunes. I connected my phone and it was recognized and then I got an error saying that I did NOT have HiSuite on my Huawei phone so I went to the app store and long story short, HiSuite isn't available. So, there is no way to run a Huawei Mate 20 Lite on your computer. I knew that Huawei locked the ability to root phones but now they took their software away. I also want to mention that the Mate 20 Lite came with HUAWEI ID which is another iOS ripoff. It has Huawei Cloud, Find My Phone, stuff like that. I successfully made an account and registered and then at the very end, it told me that none of that stuff would work since I live in the United States.

Now, the Huawei backed up my SMS messages to Google's GMAIL, but I couldn't get them back on the Messages app. I tried multiple programs out there and they didn't work either. Finally I had success using a program called Super Backup and Restore. My old backup from my Huawei phone had 5547 texts, and the backup size was 90.3MB. The backup the Super Backup and Restore made from 5547 texts was 1.1MB. It worked but I don't have MMS or any pics sent or received. But at least I have my texts.

Finally, my Samsung A50 arrived. It has it's own app for copying data to it. But, it's only to copy a Galaxy to a Galaxy! What a bunch of crap. However there is a trick to the software. You deny it because it doesn't work and then you get to a certain part and then re-launch the software and it works. And yes it copied my texts over just fine. So, I've had no problems transferring SMS and MMS messages from Android phone to phone EXCEPT for the Huawei Mate 20 Lite.

Now that I have my texts back, I would like to take the 90.3MB backup from the Cloud and try to still figure out a way to get my texts back on the Samsung phone. I know I have my texts but I would like to get all my old pictures back from my older texts.

And the icing on the cake, I sent back my Huawei phone with the return shipping label that the seller sent me. Today I opened up my mailbox and the phone was in my mailbox! Apparently it needs $11.20 of additional postage before USPS will ship it back. So, I had to talk to Ebay and this has been ridiculous! So, I'm waiting on a different new shipping label so that I can once again send the phone back. Ebay said if I don't get a new shipping label by June 10th, I can keep the Huawei phone and they will refund me my money. Maybe I'll have a Huawei giveaway lol!

Bit annoyed that I only bought myself and my wife a Huawei Mate 20 Pro each on 31st January... Even at a price match of £650 each we're not going to claw much back from what I have seen on eBay. Seems there are no consumer rights either for those of us who purchased in the UK.

Gutted is an understatement. I guess you can only be safe with Google or Apple phones. And I really don't get on with Apple products.

Waste of money. Not fair. Just got to suck it up eh.

I'm really sorry that that happened to you two. It's very unfair, indeed. Keep us posted on what happens with your selling/purchasing-other-phones pursuits.

I was lucky and I'm able to return my Huawei but the seller is playing games with the shipping label. I understand about losing money. I sold my One Plus 6 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage that cost me $629 and I sold it for $350. Then PayPal took a chunk and Ebay will take a big chunk and I had to pay shipping costs too.
