Google Camera App on the S10

I see a Marshall amp in that picture. What do you play?

LOL, believe it or not that is probably the most unique mini-fridge I've ever seen. My daughter's voice instructor was moving from Cincinnati to California and was selling everything she had. We thought it would be a nice little touch in that room. Plugged in and wasting electricity as it cools nothing!

Thank you for the link! I installed it, followed all of the instructions on the Reddit page, and it actually works!

Not sure how much of a difference it will make, as you'll see in the 2 pics I took below, one with stock Galaxy camera on my s9+ and then one with this Gcam port. The one where there was some light, there didn't seem to be much of a difference. The one with almost no light it definitely made a difference, but the resulting picture was very grainy and blotchy. Extreme use case I know, so I'd have to try it in more of a real scenario, like taking pictures of lit buildings at night.

Anyway, I probably won't do much more with this particular install since my s10 is arriving Friday, so this s9+ will be getting wiped by this weekend for sending back for the credit. But a big, huge thank you to the folks that provided working links and instructions in this thread. This website generally has the most helpful people in the forums and it keeps me coming back on a regular basis.

Yeah super dark will give you a noisy grainy picture. It's pretty used to give you "something decent" in really dark environments. Night sight works great in dimmed lights like at a bar, restaurant or night scenery shots.

I'm assuming this is meant to work with the S10 models only, and not an s9? I tried this on my s9+ (my s10 just shipped, arrives Friday) and it didn't work. Camera app just kept closing even after I followed all these steps and rebooted the phone.

If the answer is that it is meant for s10 only, I will definitely try it this weekend. Thanks for the links and instructions!

Hey CincyGuy, it's definitely for S10 models that have the Snapdragon processors. Can't say if it will work for S9s or not but sounds like you tried and this method didn't work.

I don't suppose there's a way to have Night Sight be the default shooting mode when opening up Gcam is there? That's all I really want to use it for.

Can't do that with Pixel.... That would take some programming

Bummer, thought there may be an option similar to the S10s. Not sure if people noticed but you can start the camera on the S10 on the last mode you were using by going to camera settings>camera modes>keep using last mode (toggle on)

Yeah some brands do that. Not Pixel... specifically under "More"

I installed it on my s10 plus. Works great. Low light seems much better but only in certain lighting. I thought the Samsung stock camera did well when there was some light vs. No light.

Did mine, not impressed honestly. I dont see much difference other than gcam is darker vs the Samsung one. And I had nightlight turned on for gcam.

Same results for me now that I installed it onto my new s10. Colors are whiter versus yellowish cast to Samsung stock camera apps, but no more detail to my eye. I wonder if the app is not as effective due to it being a port? Or, if this is really as it good as it gets - even if I had an actual Pixel - then I have no envy of missing out. I can have the best of both by having this APK installed. I'll try it on a few more nighttime scenes, but if this is as good as it gets I'll probably uninstall it :(

EDIT: second photo uploaded sideways for some reason. I rotated it in windows app to show sideways, and re-uploaded, but it just turned it 180 degrees - and kept the original pic. I then deleted both of the second pics and saved it, but they are still showing up. Sorry, I tried to fix but I can't figure out why this website does this with pictures.

This is why I no longer install software that isn't built for the hardware that I'm using.

For me, it's worth it when it comes to skin tones. The softening and brightening is a bit much imo on Samsung's side. I probably wouldn't use it much for scenes.
